Abstract

Scientific paper writing training at Santa Maria Fatima Betun Catholic High School (SMAK) in Betun City, Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, was conducted to enhance students’ literacy, understanding of scientific writing structure, and critical thinking skills. This program represents a community-based empowerment initiative aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum and supports the achievement of higher education Key Performance Indicators (IKU). The implementation involved needs analysis, socialization, intensive training, guidance in selecting writing topics, writing assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ comprehension and skills in scientific writing. A total of 15 student papers are targeted for publication in national journals, accompanied by the development of a scientific writing strategy module. The program also increased students’ awareness of the importance of scientific writing in supporting academic achievement and future career competitiveness. Supporting outputs such as articles, posters, videos, and publication plans contribute to the sustainability of the program. Using a participatory approach, this activity proved relevant to the school’s Merdeka Curriculum through intracurricular learning. It is expected to serve as a model for literacy development and be replicated in other secondary schools in Malaka Regency.

Abstract

This research endeavors to reshape the educational landscape by introducing an innovative pedagogical paradigm—integrating thematic teaching grounded in the scientific approach. This study meticulously designs, implements and assesses a holistic educational model to elevate primary education students' learning outcomes. The study delves into the core tenets of integrated learning, capitalizing on the interconnectedness of knowledge. Students are exposed to a dynamic educational experience that transcends traditional subject boundaries by seamlessly weaving diverse subjects into thematic units. The scientific approach serves as the bedrock of this model, fostering inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and evidence-based reasoning. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines quantitative assessment tools with qualitative insights, offering a comprehensive understanding of the model's impact. Preliminary findings significantly increase post-assessment scores, affirming the model's efficacy in enhancing subject mastery and cognitive growth. Moreover, qualitative data underscore heightened engagement, collaborative problem- solving, and enthusiasm for learning. The implications of this research resonate beyond the classroom, echoing the call for transformative pedagogical methodologies in a rapidly evolving world. This study bridges the chasm between theoretical constructs and tangible outcomes, advocating for a pedagogical shift that equips students with the skills to navigate complex challenges. As education stands on the precipice of reform, this research is a testament to the potential of integrated thematic teaching to catalyze holistic learning experiences

Abstract

The Bajo people are one of the most prominent nomadic seafaring communities in Southeast Asia, having inhabited the Indonesian waters for centuries. This study aims to comprehensively examine the Bajo people's seafaring traditions as an integral part of Indonesia's maritime heritage that urgently needs to be systematically preserved amidst the increasingly rapid flow of modernization and globalization. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive analytical literature study method, namely by systematically collecting, reviewing, and synthesizing relevant academic literature, historical documents, ethnographic reports, government policy documents, and previous research findings related to the maritime traditions of the Bajo community. The results of the study reveal that the Bajo people's seafaring traditions encompass several core dimensions such as the pabbiritang star navigation system that utilizes more than 40 constellations and traditional navigation including lepa-lepa, soppe, and bidi-bidi. These traditions are currently facing serious threats from the government's sedentarization policy, technological modernization, marine environmental degradation, and the failure of knowledge transmission across generations. This study concludes that preserving the Bajo maritime heritage requires an integrated approach that combines systematic scientific documentation, legal recognition of customary maritime rights, community-based education programs, and alternative livelihoods that are economically sustainable while respecting their cultural identity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the historical development of maritime navigation in the Indonesian archipelago (Nusantara) and its relevance to Indonesia's identity as a maritime nation. The study employs a literature review method by collecting and analyzing data from various primary and secondary sources. The results indicate that Indonesia has a long and rich maritime history, as evidenced by the dominance of maritime kingdoms such as Sriwijaya and Majapahit, which controlled major sea trade routes and built extensive international networks. The development of Nusantara navigation was also influenced by the introduction of various maritime technologies, the spread of religion through sea routes, and ultimately the impact of European colonialism which disrupted traditional maritime trade systems. In the modern era, Indonesia's maritime identity has been revitalized through the Sea Toll program and the Global Maritime Fulcrum vision. This study concludes that an understanding of the historical development of Nusantara navigation is essential as a foundation for building a strong, sovereign, and prosperous maritime Indonesia.

Abstract

Marobo ikat weaving is one of the cultural products of the Malaka Regency community that contains aesthetic, social, and philosophical values. One of the decorative motifs found in the weaving is the Kikit motif. In the local language, Kikit refers to an eagle or garuda. This study aims to describe the form and reveal the philosophical meaning of the Kikit motif in Marobo ikat weaving in Umakatahan Village, Malaka Tengah District, Malaka Regency. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews with weavers, traditional leaders, and residents who know the history and meaning of the Kikit motif. Supporting data were obtained through observations of the fabric and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data was checked through source triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the Kikit motif is a depiction of an eagle or garuda that has a strong character, is able to fly high, move agilely, and catch targets accurately. The motif contains philosophical meanings in the form of gallantry, courage, strength, dexterity, determination, authority, and high ideals. The Kikit motif also serves as a cultural identity, a medium for conveying life values, and a link between the current generation and ancestral heritage. Therefore, the Kikit motif needs to be preserved through family education, documentation, weaving training, and the use of weaving that respects the cultural values of the Malacca people.
