Abstract

Abstract

Personal hygiene is an action taken to maintain cleanliness and health for an individual’s physical and mental well-being. Good personal hygiene practices minimize the entry of microorganisms, thereby reducing the risk of individuals contracting diseases. ASUH, which stands for Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal, can be used as an indicator of food suitability for processing and human consumption. This community service activity aimed to supervise the effort to ensure the eligibility of sacrificial animals in Gampong Tungkop, Darussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency, through ante-mortem and post-mortem examinations. The animals examined included 24 cows and 6 goats ready for slaughter. The examinations consisted of ante-mortem examination, which covered the general condition, teeth, health status, eye mucosa, anus, absence of defects, sufficient age, not emaciated, and male gender. Post-mortem examination, which assessed the condition of the meat and visceral organs, including the liver (hepar), small intestine (intestinum tenue), large intestine (intestinum crassum), stomach (ventriculus), kidneys (ren), lungs (pulmo), spleen (lien), and heart (cor). Observations showed that the eye mucosa color of the examined cows and goats was generally pink, indicating normal conditions. All cows and goats examined were healthy and had perfect physical conditions (no defects). The post-mortem examination results showed that the meat, stomach, spleen, heart, lungs, and kidneys were in normal condition. However, endoparasites of the Fasciola hepatica type were found in the livers of five slaughtered cows. Health conditions of the supervised cows and goats met the requirements for sacrificial animal slaughter.

Abstract

The use of natural ingredients in dental care, such as manginang which has become part of the Minang community culture, is considered an alternative dental care that must be created to overcome the negative impacts of dental care made from artificial materials. The core of this study is to change the manginang tradition towards logical verification through screening of bioactive compounds of gambir leaves (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) as antibiofilms against Streptococcus mutans. This study was conducted using an in silico strategy approach with the help of computer programs such as MOE v.09 and Chimera 1.13.1, as well as the Way2Drug site, protein information bank, and protox_ii. This study began with the collection of ligand information from the writing, followed by transformation into 2D and 3D designs. Other antibiofilm actions were decided using the QSAR procedure through the website (http://www.way2drug.com/PASSOnline/predict.php). The selected antibiofilm compounds were then followed by observing their affinity for the receptor (pdb id. 3AIB) using an atomic docking strategy. Finally, the ligand damage profile was observed to anticipate. The results of this study indicate that of the 41 identified gambir leaf compounds, there are 20 compounds that have the potential to have antibiofilm effects with quinnic acid having the highest score (Pa 0.703), while the compound with the strongest affinity for the receptor is chlorogenic acid with an affinity score (Gbinding) of -16.03 kcal/mol and an average of low toxicity (level IV-VI). However, of the 20 bioactive compounds of gambir leaves, only 5 compounds are predicted to have the same potential as the -maltose control.

Abstract

Momordica charantia L., commonly known as bitter melon, is a medicinal plant that contains various bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, and alkaloids. These compounds have potential antifertility properties. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of bitter melon extract as an antifertility agent in female animals. A total of 18 female mice (Mus musculus L.) were divided into three groups: a control group (K0), treatment group 1 (P1) received 5% bitter melon extract, and treatment group 2 (P2) received 10% extract. The mice (Mus musculus L.) were orally administered the extract for 16 consecutive days using the gavage method. On the final day of treatment, the mice were dissected to isolate the ovaries. The ovaries were weighed and processed for histological examination using the paraffin method and Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. The observed parameters included the number of primary, secondary, tertiary, and Graafian follicles. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s post hoc test to determine statistical differences among groups. The results showed that administration of 5% bitter melon extract significantly increased the number of primary and secondary follicles. However, at the 10% concentration, a reduction was observed in the number of all follicle types, including Graafian follicles. These findings indicate that low-dose bitter melon extract may promote ovarian follicle development, whereas high-dose administration exhibits antifertility potential through a phytoestrogen mechanism that inhibits follicular maturation.
