Abstract

Permasalahan lingkungan global yang semakin kompleks mendorong perlunya inovasi teknologi hijau sebagai solusi menuju masa depan yang berkelanjutan. Pendidikan memainkan peran strategis dalam membentuk kesadaran generasi muda terhadap pentingnya menjaga lingkungan dan mengembangkan teknologi ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 1 Tebing Tinggi dengan tujuan utama untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa mengenai konsep teknologi hijau serta memperkenalkan peran keteknikan dalam mendukung industri berkelanjutan. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan secara edukatif dan partisipatif melalui penyampaian materi interaktif, diskusi kelompok, serta sesi tanya jawab yang mendorong keterlibatan aktif peserta. Materi yang disampaikan meliputi pengenalan teknologi hijau, studi kasus penerapannya di berbagai sektor industri, dan peran teknik dalam mendukung transformasi industri yang lebih ramah lingkungan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dari para siswa, yang ditunjukkan melalui keterlibatan aktif selama diskusi dan refleksi positif terkait peningkatan pengetahuan mereka tentang teknologi hijau. Selain memberikan dampak pada siswa, kegiatan ini juga memotivasi pihak sekolah untuk mulai mempertimbangkan integrasi tema lingkungan ke dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar, baik itu dalam bentuk tugas ataupun praktik langsung penggunaan teknologi hijau. Untuk rencana jangka panjang, kegiatan ini dapat menjadi inisiator kerjasama antara tim pengabdian dengan pihak sekolah dalam pelaksanaan praktik penggunaan teknologi hijau di sekolah.

Abstract

Good soil is soil that has good stability and load-bearing capacity for any construction built on it. However, the existing soil conditions may not possess sufficient load-bearing capacity, necessitating a method to improve it. For instance, in North Sumatra, the soil is relatively soft and predominantly used for agriculture. Rice husk ash is a byproduct of rice farming and exhibits pozzolanic properties, making it a potential alternative for enhancing soil load-bearing capacity. Typically, soft soil is fine-grained, has high moisture content, high saturation, high porosity, high initial pore pressure, low shear strength, and significant potential for settlement under increasing effective stress. This research aims to improve soil load-bearing capacity by using rice husk ash with varying mixtures of 0%, 4%, 8%, 12%, 16%, and 20%. Soil samples were collected in the Lubuk Pakam area of North Sumatra. Testing included soil physical properties, such as soil index properties, and soil mechanics tests conducted in the soil mechanics laboratory at the University of Santo Thomas, Medan.Based on the tests, the soil was categorized as organic soil, highly cohesive, and had high plasticity. According to the USCS classification, it falls into the fine-grained or organic soil category with the symbol PT. The CBR values after 7 days of curing with various lime additions of 0%, 4%, 8%, 12%, 16%, and 20% were found to be 0.98, 1.18, 2.00, 4.80, 13.00, and 18.80, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the higher the proportion of rice husk ash in the mixture, the higher the CBR value. This can potentially enhance farmers' income through rice husk sales.

Abstract

The availability of embankment material and the quality of the material is one of the problems in planning a dam, especially impermeable material which must be watertight. With the GeoStudio application, the dam will be modeled to observe the stability of the dam, especially against landslides and seepage. Modeling I is modeled with core zone material using upstream borrow clay material and modeling II using downstream borrow clay material. Modeling III and IV used the same core material with the addition geomembrane material between the transition zone and the upstream filter. The geomembrane was added to observe and compare the effect of use on the stability. The weir body was analyzed under conditions when the weir body was completed, flood water level, normal water level, low water level and rapid drawndown water condition. Modeling III with upstream borrow clay material and geomembrane between the transition zone and upstream filter is the design with the best stability with the most critical avalanche safety factor of 2.459 downstream of the weir under flood water level conditions. The seepage discharge downstream of the weir is 0.0017 m³/dt/m and the maximum seepage discharge is 0.0026 m³/dt/m under flood water level conditions.

Abstract

Soil has a very important role in construction, namely in buildings, roads, bridges, dams and other buildings, so soil with adequate technical properties is needed. Work will encounter difficulties if you encounter soil that has large shrinkage characteristics, this causes damage to the building standing on it. To improve the properties of peat soil in the field of civil engineering, soil stabilization is carried out. Soil stabilization is in principle to improve the quality of soil that is not good, or improve the quality of soil that is actually already classified as good. The characteristics of peat soil include: high organic content, easy degradation when exposed to water, and if the soil experiences dryness the soil shrinks. The liquid limit of the original soil was 63.505% and when the lime mixture was added it became 61.46% in a mixture of 5% lime, 53.47% in a mixture of 10% lime, 49.30% in a mixture of 15% lime, and 28.55% in a mixture of lime 20%. The plastic limit of the original soil was 24.03% and when the Gypsum lime mixture was added it became 29.16% in a mixture of 5% lime, 31.11% in a mixture of 10% lime, 34.15% in a mixture of 15% lime, and 36.14% in a 20% lime mixture. As the Plastic Limit value increases and the Liquid Limit value decreases in the soil, the plasticity index of the soil decreases and the cohesive properties of the soil decrease.

Abstract

Tanah lempung dikategorikan sebagai tanah kohesif dengan daya dukung yang relatif rendah, serta memiliki sifat kembang susut yang signifikan dan deformasi tinggi, terutama saat terjadi perubahan kadar air. Sifat ini menjadikan tanah lempung kurang ideal untuk digunakan secara langsung sebagai material dasar konstruksi jalan. Sebagai respons terhadap permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menerapkan metode stabilisasi menggunakan bahan aditif alternatif berupa abu sekam padi, yang merupakan limbah biomassa dengan kandungan silika cukup tinggi dan berpotensi sebagai bahan stabilisasi tanah. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua tahapan utama, yaitu pengujian karakteristik fisik tanah dan pengujian batas konsistensi (Atterberg limits) untuk menilai perubahan sifat plastisitas akibat penambahan abu sekam. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan abu sekam padi berkontribusi terhadap penurunan nilai batas cair tanah lempung, dari 59,62% pada kondisi awal menjadi 56,65% pada campuran 3%, dan menurun lebih signifikan hingga 45,28% pada campuran 9%. Penurunan ini diindikasikan sebagai akibat dari proses pemadatan mikrostruktur tanah yang dipengaruhi oleh efek pengisian pori dan pengikatan partikel lempung oleh partikel abu. Sementara itu, nilai batas plastis mengalami peningkatan dari 29,73% menjadi 31,47% pada campuran 3% dan 38,08% pada campuran 9%. Fenomena ini mencerminkan terjadinya reaksi ionik antara kalsium dari abu dan mineral lempung yang memicu proses flokulasi dan agregasi partikel tanah. Dengan menurunnya indeks plastisitas sebagai hasil dari penurunan batas cair dan kenaikan batas plastis, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa tanah mengalami penurunan kohesi dan peningkatan stabilitas plastis. Secara keseluruhan, pemanfaatan abu sekam padi terbukti efektif dalam memperbaiki karakteristik plastisitas tanah lempung, dan membuka peluang pemanfaatan material limbah sebagai alternatif stabilisator tanah dalam konstruksi teknik sipil.

Abstract

The Lake Toba boundary area has complex geological and geomorphological characteristics due to past volcanic activity. Along with the rapid development of infrastructure and settlements in this area, in-depth geotechnical studies are needed to support safe and sustainable planning. This study aims to evaluate the maximum shear modulus (Gₘₐₓ) of soil based on Standard Penetration Test (SPT) data with an empirical approach using the formula of Hardin & Black (1968). The study location is in Nainggolan, Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. Analysis was conducted on field data in the form of N-SPT values, soil unit weight, and calculations of effective stress and effective octahedral stress. The results show that the Gₘₐₓ value tends to increase with depth, with the highest value of 60,820.13 kN/m² at a depth of 14.45–16.45 meters, and the lowest value of 14,383.66 kN/m² at a layer of 4.45–6.45 meters, indicating a weak soil zone with high pore water content. Layers with high Gₘₐₓ values are recommended as the main supporting layer of the foundation, while layers with low values require reinforcement. This study proves that the empirical correlation approach based on SPT can be a practical and economical alternative in estimating soil dynamic parameters, and can be used to support civil engineering planning and geotechnical risk mitigation in the Lake Toba area.

Abstract

Infrastructure development often faces challenges due to soft soil conditions, as encountered in the Binjai-Pangkalan Berandan Toll Road Construction Project at STA 38+825. Soft soil has low permeability, low bearing capacity, and a long consolidation period, making soil improvement necessary before construction. One commonly used method is preloading, which involves applying an initial load with temporary embankments to accelerate the soil consolidation process. This study aims to analyze the effect of the preloading method on the acceleration of soil consolidation time and the magnitude of soil settlement at the project site. The analysis was conducted using an analytical approach based on field soil test data, such as boring log data, Standard Penetration Test (SPT) data, and other soil parameters. The calculations were performed using Terzaghi’s One-Dimensional Consolidation Theory. The results show that the preloading method can accelerate the soil consolidation process to achieve 90% consolidation in 249 days. The total settlement observed during the preloading process was 65.246 cm. These findings indicate that the preloading method is effective in soft soil conditions to improve soil stability before the main construction phase begins.

Abstract

Sesuai dengan UU lalu lintas No. 22 tahun 2009 dinyatakan bahwa : 1]Para setiap pengguna jalan harus dapat mengetahui, memahami serta   menjalankan segala peraturan yang telah ditetapkan dalam UU lalu lintas , agar terwujudnya keamanan ,keselamatan lalu lintas  dan terhindarnya  kemacetan  dijalan raya. 2} Masalah lalu lintas  juga merupakan masalah yang berhubungan dengan transporatasi diperkotaan. 3} Terjadinya kemacetan dijalan raya  salah satu pemicu   disebabkan kurang pengetahuan tentang peraturan dan UU lalu lintas, disiplin berlalu lintas  sering diabaikan   pengguna jalan tentu bila dibiarkan akan menimbulkan  meningkatnya tingkat kecelakaan . Isu tentang pentingnya pemahaman  keselamataan berlalu lintas  perlu ditingkatkan  [1] Bagaimana meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat atau  siswa tentang keselamatan berkendara dijalan raya. [2] Bagaimana meningkatkan pengetahuan  siswa tentang marka ,  rambu lalu lintas serta bahaya jika melanggar. [3] Bagaimana meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa tentang kelengkapan keselamatan berkendara (safety equipment) serta cara penggunaan yang benar dan resiko jika tidak menggunakannya. [4] Bagaimana meningkatkan pengetahuan  siswa tentang Perilaku aman,/selamat dalam berkendara (safety attitude) serta penerapannya dan resiko jika tidak melakukannya.  [5] Bagaimana meningkatkan pengetahuan  siswa tentang potensi kecelakaan dijalan  raya  (Zero acident) dalam  berkendara. Disertai  contoh dan  tanda kerusakan pada kendaraan meliputi tindakan pencegahan dan perbaikan. Dan dengan memberikan kuesioner  selama pelaksanaan PKM  secara keseluruhan mereka menyatakan puas dan penyuluhan  masih perlu dilakukan  berkelanjutan.
