Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dalah untuk memberikan pelatihan tentang kewirausahaan sebagai peluang bisnis untuk generasi milenial selama masa pandemi Covid-19. Metode pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah dengan menggunakan metode diskusi dan metode simulasi. Pada kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini, untuk sasaran utamanya adalah Generasi Muda atau generasi milenial yang berstatus sebagai mahasiswa di daerah Soloraya Jawa Tengah. Jumlah peserta yang kegiatan ini sebanyak 95 mahasiswa yang berasal dari beberapa perguruan tinggi swasta atau negeri di daerah Soloraya Jawa Tengah. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan melalui webinar online dengan menggunakan Zoom Meeting. Pada kegiatan ini membahas tentang jenis wirausaha dan bisnis yang yang dapat dilakukan oleh generasi milenial dimasa pendemi Covid-19 misalnya reseller/dropshipper online shop, bisnis kuliner. bimbingan belajar online serta bisnis kebutuhan bahan pokok. Kunci utama menjalankan bisnis di masa pandemi yaitu mau mencoba peluang bisnis, tetap tenang, terus berusaha, melakukan inovasi, ide kreatif, selalu berusaha, pantang menyerah dan melawan rasa takut. Kegiatan ini sekaligus untuk menumbuhkan keinginan berwirausaha, mencari peluang dan ide usaha bagi generasi milenial dan masyarakat khususnya di masa pandemi serta dapat mengetahui tantangan dan kendala dalam berwirausaha dan berbisnis.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan latar belakang ingin memberikan sumbangsih dalam meningkatkan tingkat pemahaman untuk memberikan ilmu pengetahuan kepada masyarakat khususnya dalam dakwah ekonomi syariah. Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk penambahan pengetahuan tentang ekonomi syariah, khususnya mengenai perbankan syariah. Diharapkan dari hasil pelatihan ini memberikan penambahan pemahaman baru dari masyarakat sekitar. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi, praktik simulasi dan observasi. Metode ceramah digunakan dalam proses penyampaian materi pelatihan. Target luaran yang diharapkan dari kegiatan ini adalah 1) Masyarakat mampu mengetahui dan memahami sistem ekonomi syariah; 2) Masyarakat mendapatkan pemahaman baru tentang apa itu perbankan syariah dan bedanya dengan perbankan konvensional; 3) Selanjutnya masyarakat akan mampu mengetahui dan memahami bagaimana memperoleh dana dalam pengembangan kehidupan yang lebih baik lagi dan berkah.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan untuk memberikan pemahaman dan ilmu pengetahuan kepada masyarakat umum (siswa SMA/SMK sederajat, mahasiswa, dosen dan umum). Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini sebagai pelatihan tes TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). Selain itu, memberikan pemahaman dan pengetahuan tentang Tes TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). Diharapkan dari hasil pelatihan ini dapat memberikan pemahaman dan pengetahuan baru tentang tes TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). kepada masyarakat lainnya. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah, dan diskusi. Metode ceramah digunakan dalam proses penyampaian materi pelatihan/sosialiasi. Target luaran yang diharapkan dari kegiatan ini adalah: 1) Masyarakat mengetahui apa itu tes TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). 2) Masyarakat memahami jenis soal-soal yang diujikan dalam TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language). 3) Masyarakat memahami tips dan trik mengerjakan soal test TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language), dan 4) Masyarakat mampu mengerjakan soal-soal yang diujikan dalam TOEFL (Test of English Foreign Language).

Abstract

As the usage of ICT in teaching and learning, digital literacy becomes well-liked for Indonesian English department and non-English department students from Jakarta and Central Java. This research is to investigate both the students’ listening comprehension and their insight into educational videos for improving their listening skills. The objectives are: 1) finding out the students listening comprehension through watching VOA Learning English, 2) obtaining the students' perception of listening to English?, 3) exploring students' preferences to listen through video?, 4) investigating the listening media and topic the students like to listen to?, 5) probing the students' familiarity with VOA Learning English? This research was a comparative study including descriptive statistics. The questionnaire results revealed that the students from the two campuses shared similarities and differences in their preferences to increase their listening skills through video. The students of the English department and non-English department listening comprehension were categorized as fair since most of them reached scores between seventy and eighty. The majority of both English department and non-English department students like to listening English. However, they prefer watching a video in the form of a combination between monolog and dialog. They were enjoy the song for improving their listening skill. They also commit that the VOA video was interesting since it was designed to help them in developing their English skills daily. Likewise, such videos performed native speakers as role models which are favored by English department and non-English department students. Besides, they like to receive the questions after the video ends.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to know the type and examples of the word-formation process of the terms that appear during pandemic Covid-19. This research uses qualitative research. From the result analysis, some types of word-formation processes include borrowing, compounding, blending, acronym, clipping, and multiple processes. In borrowing, for example, the words “Rapid test” and “Swab test”.  In compounding, for example, the words “handsanitizer, lockdown, coronacoma, coronaspeck and self-quarantine”. In blending, for example, the words ‘covid, covidiot, covidient, quarantini, infodemic, quaranteam, coronials, covexit, covidivorce, quaranteen and coroncation”. In clipping, for example, the words ‘sanny” and “iso”. The word “sanny’ comes from “hand sanitizer” and “Iso” comes from “isolation”. In the acronym, for example, the initials WFH (Work from Home), PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), WFO (Work from Office), and PUI (Person Under Investigation). In multiple processes for example the words “handwashing”, zoomboombing, coronababies, self-isolation”.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe the types of borrowing word and to find out the dominant type of borrowing words found in “I Fine Thank You Love You” movie. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Descriptive research tries to present the problem clearly based on the accurate data, explaining and describing the topic of a problem based on the theory used. From the analysis, it is found that there are two types of borrowing word found in “I Fine Thank You Love You” movie, they are pure and naturalized borrowing. In pure borrowing, there are 43 data or 38.39 %. While, in naturalized borrowing, there are 69 data or 61.61 %. It shows that pure borrowing shows high percentage than naturalized borrowing. In pure borrowing, a word purely taken from the source language (SL) into the target language (TL) without changing any letters. While, in naturalized borrowing, a word can be naturalized to fit the spelling rules in the target language (TL) so the readers can understand easily what the word means

Abstract

This research has objective to find out the kind of spelling errors written by the students and to determine the most dominant kind of spelling error written by the students of STIE AAS Surakarta in the academic year 2017/2018. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. In this study, researchers revealed conclusions by collecting data. The object of the research were taken from 24 students of STIE AAS Surakarta, especially in the 2017/2018 academic year. In collecting data, the researcher used the documentation method. In analyzing errors, the steps were the identification of errors, classification of errors, description of errors, explaining errors, and tabulation of data. The data were tabulated to determine the frequency of errors found in the students’ writing composition. From the results of the study, it was found that there are some errors found in the results of student essays in the aspect of spelling as 50 data which consist of some errors such as in omission as 20 data or 40 %, in substitution as 14 data or 28 %, in insertion/addition as 10 data or 20 % and transposition as 6 data or 12 %. While the most dominant spelling error occurs in the aspect of omission as 20 data or 40 %.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the type of directive speech acts and to find out which directive speech acts most frequently used in “Koi Mil Gaya” movie. The research is conducted by using a qualitative approach. This research describes the phenomenon, the data, the situation, as it is really found. The technique of data collection in this research is a documentary study. From the result of this study, the writer finds that there are 246 utterances of directive speech act produced by the characters in the movie as 196 data. The form of the directive act can be found in utterances which contain words, phrase, clause, and sentences. From the analysis shows that in “Koi Mil Gaya” movie shows a directive speech act which contains three aspects, they are command, request, and suggestion. First, in command, there are 165 data (utterances) or 84.18 %. Second, in suggestion, there are 20 data/utterances or 10.20 %. Third, in a request there are 11 data//utterances or 5.61 %. While the most dominant type of directive speech act is in command.Keywords: Speech Act, Directive, Movie

Abstract

In the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education in Indonesia also issued a policy of closing schools and replacing the teaching and learning process by using an online learning system. This study aimed at investigating the online learning system in teaching English, which included the institution's support related to the online learning system and the lecturers' opinion in using the online learning system. This research method used descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research were 81 English lecturers of some colleges or universities in Indonesia. The result showed that the institution's support in the online learning system could be described in three categories: (1) there were 66 respondents or 83.5 % said yes, (2) thee were 8 respondents or 10.1 % said no, and (3) there were 5 respondents or 6.5 % answer with other responses. Meanwhile, the English lecturers' opinion toward implementing an online learning system showed two responses between positive and negative responses. The 77 respondents or 97.5 %, said yes, then 2 respondents or 2.5 % said no to using the online learning system. In the teaching-learning process, the English lectures mostly used one online learning system, and some lectures used two or more online learning system. The 31 respondents or 40.3 % used Google Classroom, 6 respondents or 7.8 % used Zoom, 5 respondents or 6.5 % used Schoology, 5 respondents or 6.5 % used Edmodo, 4 respondents or 5.3 % used Moodle, as 2 respondents or 2.6 % used Google Meet, 2 respondents or 2.6 % used WhatsApp group. The other responses showed that they used self-platform, SPADA System, Elena Platform, UCY Learning, English Discoveries, Email, Skype, and BlogSpot. These results suggest that the online learning system has the potential to help the lecturers and students in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This research is to describe the implementation of the lecturer's pedagogic competence in online English teaching at ITB AAS Indonesia during pandemic Covid-19. This research is descriptive qualitative. The result of the analysis shows that the implementation of a lecturer's pedagogic competence in online English teaching consists of three main competencies applied. First, 1) lecturer’s competence in preparing online learning. English lecturer prepares online learning by using e-learning institutions which can be accessed on http://elearning.itbaas.ac.id/. The English lecturer prepares a lecture contract, lesson plans, and syllabus for 1 semester, also teaching materials. The English lecturer also prepares the media of video conferencing in online learning. 2) lecturer’s competence in carrying out online learning. English lecturer teaching English online by using Zoom Meeting and YouTube Live Streaming. The recording and the streaming videos can be accessed on the English lecturer’s YouTube Channel. The students can join Zoom Meeting, YouTube Live Streaming, or both. 3) lecturer’s competence in evaluating online learning. English lecturer evaluates the students’ by giving tasks, mid-term and final tests in writing and reading which are shared in Google Classroom each class to evaluate students’ learning.
