Abstract

In Indonesia, there are approximately 4,000 types of trees. The demand for wood continues to increase with the development of infrastructure across the country. However, the fact remains that the rapid rate of forest destruction in Indonesia has led to a raw material crisis in the forestry industry. According to SKEPHI (Indonesian Forest Conservation Cooperation Secretariat), regarding the condition of Indonesia's forests during 2007-2008, the manifestation of forest destruction is evidenced by Indonesia breaking the Guinness World Record in 2007 as the fastest forest-destroying country. Another issue faced is the growing population of Indonesia, which results in a large shortage of wood supply and its consequences. Aesthetically, wood is appealing due to its artistic value. Mechanically, wood is chosen for its relatively higher tensile strength and shear strength compared to concrete, making it a safer option when used as structural components in earthquake-prone areas, particularly for residential buildings. This situation must be anticipated by seeking alternatives to the use of natural forest wood with other wood-based materials that have significant potential, can be well-utilized, and can replace natural forest wood as a construction material and for other human needs. For example, the use of composite products like laminated wood made from fast-growing wood species can be an alternative. This can be sourced from cultivated trees in Community Forests or Industrial Timber Plantations. This research focuses on examining the potential use of fast-growing wood as structural elements by evaluating the physical properties of both solid wood and laminated wood. The main objective of this research is to address the scarcity of wood or wood resources from natural forests. The method used in this study involves selecting three types of fast-growing wood, followed by physical property testing in a laboratory.

Abstract

Aceh has a very diverse culture and tradition. There are many interesting things to learn about Acehnese traditional foods and how welcome drinks are made. Keumamah, also known as reuboh, boh leukat, timphan, and seunarah, is a traditional Acehnese food passed down from generation to generation. The main ingredients used, such as glutinous rice flour, coconut milk, and palm sugar, show the natural richness of Aceh. Welcoming guests with a welcome drink is an Acehnese custom. For respect and hospitality to the Acehnese, drinks such as reuboh, tubruk coffee, and jasmine tea made from natural ingredients are served. The tradition of welcoming guests shows the friendly and warm nature of the Acehnese people. Therefore, the tradition of making welcome drinks and various Acehnese traditional foods is an important part of Aceh's culinary and cultural richness that must be preserved. Acehnese cuisine has a cultural diversity that makes it unique and interesting. Further research on this component can provide deeper insight into Aceh's culinary heritage and efforts to preserve this tradition. Abstract

Biopores is a technique for water infiltration (water absorption) in surface areas of the land to restore soil fertility, protect the water system and reduce waterlogging/surface runoff in areas that lack water absorption. One of the organic wastes that can be filled into the biopore holes is coffee grounds. Coffee grounds are the coffee residue left after the brewing process or grinding the coffee beans. Often coffee grounds are considered useless waste and are simply thrown away. Through this International Community Service (PKM) activity, it is hoped that compost can be produced in the soil so that it can improve the quality of the soil (fertilize the soil). Apart from that, it can absorb surface water into the ground and reduce surface waterlogging. The biopore method was first discovered in 2008 by Dr. Kamir R Brata, a researcher from IPB (Bogor Agricultural Institute). Biopores are absorption holes made vertically into the ground to reduce waterlogging and increase water absorption. The conclusions that can be concluded from this Community Service activity are as follows: This activity has produced compost in the soil so that it can improve the quality of the soil. This activity has also succeeded in making water infiltration into the soil very well which can reduce standing water on the surface of the soil.

Abstract
