Abstract

Background:Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with an increasing number of sufferers every year, and its negative impacts require special attention. The Indonesian government has taken steps to manage DM by establishing the PROLANIS program. Objective:This study aims to identify the roles of PROLANIS in treating DM in Indonesia. Methods:This study used a scoping review design. We performed extensive searches in CINAHL Plus, Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Based on the search results, we found a total of 280 articles. After a selection process, 27 articles met the criteria for review. The papers were grouped by year, study design, setting, and the role of PROLANIS. Results:According to research results, PROLANIS effectively maintains and reduces several essential aspects of DM patients' health, such as body mass index, fasting blood glucose, and HbA1c levels. PROLANIS also plays a positive role in improving the lipid profiles of DM patients. Furthermore, PROLANIS contributes to increasing self-efficacy, self-acceptance, self-management, adherence to therapy, and overall quality of life. Conclusion:PROLANIS positively affects the management of DM by improving physical health and enhancing the quality of life for patients. Keywords:chronic disease; Diabetes Mellitus; non-communicable diseases; PROLANIS

Abstract

Background: Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular disorders who suffer from COVID-19 may have an increased risk of death.  Objective: This study aims to analyze the time of death and influencing factors in patients with DM and cardiovascular disorders with COVID-19. Methods: We used a retrospective observational cohort study using medical records of COVID-19 patients treated at Dr Soeradji and Penembahan Senopati hospitals from March 2020 to June 2022. There were 2,959 participants: patients without comorbidities, with DM, and with cardiovascular problems. We extracted sociodemographic and clinical data on patient characteristics using medical records. Data analysis used Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analysis to estimate survival probability and investigate predictors of death with a 5% significance level. Results: The median survival time was highest in the group without comorbidities (70.00) and lowest in the DM+others group (21.75). Years of treatment, age, presence of comorbidities, and type of hospital were related to the survival rate of COVID-19 patients (p<0.05). Diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular system disorders are significantly associated with survival of COVID-19 patients (p<0.001). There were significant differences between patients without cardiovascular disorders and patients with cardiovascular disorders (Non-Hypertension, Hypertension, and Hypertension + Others) adjusted by year, gender, age, and hospital type (p<0.001). There were significant differences between patients without DM and patients with DM (DM only, DM+Hypertension, and DM+Others) adjusted by year, gender, age, and hospital type(p<0.001). Conclusion: Years of treatment, age, gender, comorbid DM, and cardiovascular problems are associated with the survival rate of COVID-19 patients. Older age, DM patients who have comorbidities other than hypertension, and patients with cardiovascular issues other than hypertension show a greater risk of death than other groups. Key words: COVID-19, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Diseases, Survival Rate.

Abstract

Introduction: This discussion paper aims to explore the unique challenges and considerations regarding emergency situations involving elderly individuals. As the global population continues to age, understanding how to effectively respond to emergencies involving older adults becomes increasingly important. This paper discusses various factors that contribute to the vulnerability of the elderly during emergencies, such as physical limitations, cognitive impairments, social isolation, and existing health conditions. It also addresses strategies for emergency preparedness, response, and recovery that can help mitigate risks and enhance the well-being of older adults during crises. Method: This paper is based on literature research. Databases include ScienceDirect, PubMed, and the EBSCO Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). Key Issues: The following are the primary implications and key findings related to emergencies involving the elderly: vulnerabilities of the elderly, individualized emergency preparedness, community outreach and education, caregiver and family involvement, specialized healthcare and medical services, psychological support, and long-term recovery and resilience. Conclusion: Recognizing the vulnerabilities of the elderly during emergencies and taking appropriate measures is vital for ensuring their safety. It is important to promote customized preparedness strategies tailored to each individual, raise awareness and educate communities about this issue, involve caregivers and families in the process, offer specialized healthcare and psychological support, and prioritize long-term recovery and resilience efforts.

Abstract

Cigarette smoke can interfere with the diffusion process so that O2 supply decreases into the tissues causing hypoxia and disturbed cell metabolism and CO2 increases in the blood and decreased vital lung capacity. The aim of this study is to determine the difference in lung vital capacity between smokers and nonsmokers. This type of research is a comparative quantitative study with cross sectional design. The population in this study were all male students of Nursing Study Program at one campus in Yogyakarta as many as 98 people. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling with a sample of 30 smokers and 30 non-smokers. Data collection tools using a questionnaire and measurement of lung vital capacity using a Spirometer. Bivariate analysis using Chi Square test. The vital lung capacity in the majority of smokers experiences mild restriction, as many as 17 people (56.6%). While the lung's vital capacity in the majority of Non-Smokers groups experienced mild restriction as many as 27 people (90%). The bivariate analysis results of the p-value of 0,000 (p <0.05). There is a difference in the vital lung capacity between smokers and nonsmokers in the Nursing Force Study Program Student at a University in Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Preschool children are a period of growth for children. Dental caries is often observed among preschool children. The Basic Health Research reports that the prevalence rate of caries in Indonesia reaches 25.9%. This condition is very saddening because preschool-children need their parents to take care of their health, particularly dental health. In this case, parents’ knowledge is very much needed in providing more guidance and care in order that the children do not have dental caries. To was aimed at identifying the correlation between parents’ knowledge of dental health with the prevalence of dental caries among preschool children at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Nursery School, Wedomartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This research was a correlation analysis with a cross-sectional design. The subjects were parents, particularly mothers, whose children studied at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Nursery School. It was a simple random sampling technique with 64 respondents. The data collection instrument consisted of a questionnaire and an observation sheet. The data were analyzed with the Spearman Rank statistics. This research found that the knowledge of dental health of 50.0% of the parents was categorized as good, the dental caries prevalence of the children were 71,9%. The research hypothesis was accepted with a p-value of 0.023 and the correlation coefficient was 0.285. There was a significant correlation between the parents’ knowledge of dental health with the prevalence of dental caries among preschool children at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Nursery School, Wedomartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, Yogyakarta.
