Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi pengaruh teknik bermain peran dengan naskah dan kecemasan siswa pada bahasa asing terhadap kompetensi berbicara siswa kelas sebelas. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan 2x2 faktorial dan 68 orang siswa dipilih secara acak sebagai sampel penelitian. Data di analisis dengan menggunakan ANOVA dua jalur dan Uji Tukey. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa (1) ada perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap kompetensi berbicara antara siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik bermain peran dengan naskah dan siswa yang diajarkan dengan teknik konvensional; (2) ada pengaruh interaksi pada teknik mengajar yang digunakan dan kecemasan siswa pada bahasa asing terhadap kompetensi berbicara siswa; (3) ada perbedaan kompetensi berbicara antara siswa yang mempunyai kecemasan siswa pada bahasa asing yang tinggi yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik bermain peran dengan naskah dan siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional; (4) ada perbedaan kompetensi berbicara antara siswa yang mempunyai kecemasan siswa pada bahasa asing yang rendah yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik bermain peran dengan naskah dan siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional. The result showed that (a) there is a significant effect in speaking competency between the students who were taught by using scripted role play technique and those taught by the conventional technique, (b) there is a significant interactional effect between teaching technique applied and the foreign language anxiety on the students’ speaking competency, (c) there is a significant difference in speaking competency between the students with high foreign language anxiety who were taught by using scripted role play technique and those who were taught by the conventional technique; and (d) there is a significant difference in speaking competency between the students with low foreign language anxiety who were taught by using scripted role play technique and those students who were taught by the conventional technique. keyword : anxiety, scripted role play, speaking

Advisors: (I) Prof.Dr.Ketut Seken, M.A, Advisor (II) Dr. Asril Marjohan, M.A This study aimed at describing the cohesion and coherence aspect of English narrative writing created by the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Banjar. The aims were to describe and explain the problems encountered by the students in their narratives. This study used qualitative research design. The subjects of this study were the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Banjar in academic year 2013/2014. The obtained data were in the form of scripts of students’ narrative writings, responses of the students’ questionnaire and script of teachers’ interview. The data were analyzed by using the theory of Halliday and Hasan (1976). The findings of the study showed that (1) the cohesion of the narratives was achieved by the use of cohesive devices. Those devices were: reference (personal, demonstrative, comparative), substitution (verbal, clausal), ellipsis (verbal), and conjunction (additive, adversative, causal, temporal), reiteration and collocation (lexical devices). (2) The coherence of the narratives was achieved through the development of themes, and the generic structure. (3) Some problems of coherence identified were the problems with reference (personal, demonstrative), conjunction (additive, adversative, causal, temporal) and limited choice of lexical item. Abstract

This study aimed at describing and explaining the experiential meaning, interpersonal meaning and textual meaning as well as the nature of schematic structure in the students’ writings under study. This study used descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis as its technique. In collecting the data, some techniques were used such as content analysis, document analysis and also interviewing. This study involved 24 students of the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Kubu in the academic year 2013/2014. Thus, the object of this study was 24 students’ expository writings analyzed through Systemic Functional Linguistics. From the result of the study, it was found out that the students expressed the experiential meaning by using six process types. Mostly, they used material process in their writings. The students expressed the interpersonal meaning of the text through the use of declarative, imperative, modality and personal pronoun. It was revealed that the expository texts under study were mostly constructed in declarative forms. The students expressed the textual meaning of their expository texts through developing themes and rhemes of the clauses constructing the texts. For that reason, the thematic development or progression was analyzed to recognize the textual meanings. Meanwhile, it was identified that twenty three expository writings were built in three main stages, while there is one text which was constructed in two stages or generic structures. The three stages cover introduction (thesis), main body (arguments) and conclusion (reiteration).keyword : Discourse Semantics, Expository Writing, Systemic Functional Linguistics.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan, menganalisis dan menjelaskan tentang macam-macam kepatuhan dan ketidakpatuhan terhadap maksim Grice, percakapan implikatur, dan faktor ketidakpatuhan terhadap maksim yang diproduksi di dalam kelas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru-guru dan siswa-siswa kelas tujuh dan delapan dari Sekolah Internasional Gandhi. Sebagai sebuah penelitian kualitatif naturalistik, data di kumpulkan melalui observasi dan interview yang kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori Cooperative Principle Grice (1975). Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa guru-guru dan siswa-siswa mematuhi semua maksim Grice dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Dalam penelitian ini juga ditemukan bahwa guru memproduksi persentase yang tinggi dari flouting maksim. Guru sering memilih untuk memberikan instruksi secara tidak langsung di dalam kelas dan berharap siswa untuk mencari makna tersembunyi. Di sisi lain siswa memproduksi persentase tinggi dalam violating maksim dan infringing maksim. Dalam hal ini, siswa gagal mematuhi maksim karena mereka tidak mampu untuk berbicara dengan jelas dan kurangnya kemampuan dalam berbahasa Inggris. Lebih jauh lagi ditemukan bahwa guru dan siswa lebih sering menggunakan flouting (53.55%) dan violating (46.66%) dalam interaksi kelas. Penelitian ini juga menunjukan bahwa guru dan siswa memproduksi flouting dan violating dari maksim quality, quantity, relation dan manner. Guru dan siswa memilih ketidaklangsungan dalam berbicara dan tidak mematuhi maksim Grice yang bertujuan untuk menunjukkan kesopanan dan membuat lelucon. Ketika konsep dari face threatening act dilibatkan, maka guru dan siswa akan menggunakan percakapan implikatur dan sering tidak mematuhi prinsip-prinsip dalam percakapan. Kata Kunci : Kepatuhan terhadap Maxim, Ketidakpatuhan terhadap Maxim, Percakapan Implikatur, Kesopanan This study was intended to describe, analyze and explain types of observance and non-observance of Gricean Maxims, conversational implicatures and factors of non-observance produced in the classroom. The subjects were the teachers and students of grades seven and eight of Gandhi Memorial International School (GMIS). The data for this naturalistic qualitative study were collected through observation and interviews which were then analyzed by using Paul Grice’s (1975) Cooperative Principle theory. The study showed that both teachers and students observed all of the Gricean maxims in certain part of classroom teaching activities. This study also found that the teachers produced high percentage of flouting the maxims. Teachers often preferred not blatantly giving instructions in the classroom but hoped the students to find the implied meaning. Meanwhile the students produced high percentages of violating the maxims and infringing the maxims. In this case, the students failed to observe the maxims because they were unable to speak clearly or lacked language ability in English. Furthermore, in conversational implicature, it was found that teachers and students used flouting the maxims most (53.33 %) than violating the maxims (46.66 %) in classroom interaction. The study showed that both teachers and students flouted and violated maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relation and maxim of manner. However, teachers and students preferred indirectness and did not observe Gricean maxims with the intentions of showing politeness and making jokes. Asril Marjohan, M.A This study attempted to describe and explain (a) the cohesion of English narrative writings produced by the students under study; (b) the coherence of English narrative writings produced by the students under study; (c) the problems encountered by the students under study in creating cohesion and coherence in their English narrative writing. This study was designed as qualitative study. This study was conducted on 30 students of the ninth grade in SMP Negeri 2 Banjar. The data were collected through students’ narrative writings, students’ questionnaire and teachers’ interview. The data were analyzed by using the theory introduced by Halliday and Hasan (1976). The analysis was concerned with grammatical cohesion (reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction), lexical cohesion (reiteration and collocation) and aspect of coherence that were found in the students’ writings. The results of this study show that (a) the students were able to use the five types of cohesive devices to make their writing coherent. The first cohesive devices used were reference (70.77%) with personal reference as the dominant use. Then, it was followed by conjunction (28.51%), substitution (0.57%), ellipsis (0.14%). Lexical cohesion was used 137 item dominated with repetition (78%). (b) The students’ produced coherence of the narratives through the development of themes, and the generic structure. (c) Some problems of coherence identified were the problems with reference (personal, demonstrative), conjunction (additive, adversative, causal, temporal) and limited choice of lexical item. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 30 siswa kelas Sembilan SMP Negeri 2 Banjar. Data diperoleh melalui tulisan narasi siswa, kuesioner siswa dan wawancara guru. Data yang diperoleh dianalis berdasarkan teori Halliday and Hasan (1976). Analisis fokus pada kohesi gramatikal (referensi, substitusi, ellipsis, konjungsi), kohesi leksikal (pengulangan dan kolokasi) dan aspek koherensi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan (a) Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (a) siswa pada dasarnya mampu menggunakan lima piranti kohesif untuk membuat tulisan mereka menjadi koherensi. Penanda kohesi yang dimaksud adalah referensi (70,77%) yang didominasi dengan penggunaan referensi personal. Kemudian, diikuti oleh konjungsi (28.51%,) substitusi (0,57%), ellipsis (0,14%). Penggunaan kohesi leksikal 137 butir yang didominasi dengan pengulangan (78%). (b) Koherensi teks narasi diciptakan dengan pengembangan ide utama dari teks itu yang didukung oleh ide setiap paragraf, penggunaan generic structure dari teks narasi. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Ex-post facto Korelasi yang bertujuan untuk menguji ada tidaknya kontibusi signifikan dari perbandingan prestasi belajar bahasa inggris siswa laki-laki dan perempuan terhadap gaya belajar pada siswa kelas delapan sekolah menengah pertama laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja semester dua pada tahun akademik 2013/2014. Jumlah populasi 30 siswa dan jumlah sampel sebesar 15 siswa laki laki dan 15 siswa perempuan. Sampel penelitian dilakukan melalui teknik proportional random sampling. Data gaya belajar siswa diperoleh dari PLSPQ (Reid,1984) dan untuk prestasi bahasa inggris siswa diperoleh dari dokumentasi yaitu nilai raport siswa. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferential. Statistik deskriptif digunakan untuk menggambarkan data variabel yang diperoleh dan statistik inferensial digunakan untuk uji hipotesis. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis imbuhan pembentuk kata kerja yang mengalami perubahan secara morfofonemik pada dialek Bahasa Bali Cempaga. Penelitian ini merupakan analisis bahasa deskriptif. Enam narasumber di pilih berdasarkan kriteria tertentu. Alat-alat yang digunakan yaitu: peneliti, 2 daftar kata yaitu: Swadesh dan Northofer, dan daftar kalimat. Data di kumpulkan melalui rekaman percakapan, daftar kata, dan daftar kalimat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Awalan {N-} memiliki 4 anggota morpheme yaitu: ŋ-|, |ñ-|, |n-| dan |m-|. Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan prefix {ma-} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik ketika ditambahkan dengan kata yang berawalan dengan /u/, /i/, and /e/.Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan suffix {-aŋ} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik. Phoneme /h/ dilesapkan, sementara kombinasi dari // dan /ʌ/ menghasilkan phoneme /ɔ/. Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan suffix {-a} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik. Suffix {-a} membentuk kata kerja ketika ditambahkan dengan kata yang berakhiran /t/, /r/, /s/, kata yang berakhiran dengan /ʌ/ berubah menjadi /ɔ/. Pembentukan kata kerja oleh awalan dibentuk dengan penambahan kata kerja dan kata benda pada dialek Bahasa Bali Cempaga, sedangkan pembentukan kata kerja oleh akhiran dibentuk dengan penambahan kata kerja, kata benda, dan kata sifat. Makna dari awalan ketika ditambahkan dengan kata dasar tertentu yaitu: 1).mengerjakan sesuatu dengan menggunakan alat, 2).Menyatakan sebuah perbuatan yang berhubungan dengan kata dasar. Makna dari akhiran ketika ditambahkan dengan kata dasar tertentu yaitu: 1).menyatakan sebuah perbuatan yang dilakukan untuk orang lain, 2).Meminta untuk merubah posisi seseorang dan benda yang berhubungan dengan kata dasar. Kata Kunci : Afiksasi, Morfofonemik, Imbuhan, Kata kerja. This study aimed at finding out the verb- forming affixation that involves morphophonemic changes in Cempaga Dialect of Balinese. This study was designed in a descriptive qualitative research. There were six informants chosen based on a set of criteria. The instruments used were the researcher, two word lists namely: Swadesh and Northofer, and sentence lists. The data collected through the record of conversation, word lists, and sentence lists. Prefix {N-} has four allomorphs namely: |ŋ-|, |ñ-|, |n-| and |m-|. The verb- forming process that involves the prefix {ma-} results in a morphophonemic change when it is added to the bases which have the initial vowels /u/, /i/, and /e/. The verb- forming process that involves the suffix {-aŋ} results the morphophonemic changes. Phoneme /h/ was omitted, meanwhile the combination between // and /ʌ/ results /ɔ/. Suffix {-a} forms a verb when it is added to the bases ended by /t/, /r/, /s/, /ʌ/ in the base is changed into /ɔ/. The verb- forming process that involves the prefixes is formed by adding verbs and nouns. The verb- forming process that involves the suffixes is formed by adding verbs, nouns, and adjective. The semantic contents of the prefixes when they are added to the particular bases are: 1). doing something with some tools, 2). stating an action that is related to the bases. The semantic contents of suffixes when they are added to the particular bases are: 1). Stating an action that is done for others, 2).
