Abstract

Abstrak:Penelitianinibertujuanuntukmenggambarkanfrekuensipenggunaanstrategipembelajaranbahasa yang digunakanolehmahasiswasaatmembaca text berbahasainggris. Partisipandalampenelitianiniadalahmahasiswa semester lima yang kuliah di program studibahasainggrisFakultasKeguruandanIlmuPendidikan di UniversitasTanjungpuraangkatan 2013/2014. Didalampenelitianini, datadiperolehmelaluiangketdan interview untukmendapatkaninformasi yang lebihdalamdanakurat.Data penelitiandianalisismenggunakanperhitungan rata-rata yang kemudiandikategorikanmenjadikategoritinggi, sedang, danrendah.Menuruthasilpenelitiandapatdiketahuibahwapenggunaanstrategibelajarpadasaatmembaca text berbahasainggristergolongkedalamkategorisedang.Selainitu, data menunjukanstrategi metacognitivesebagaistrategi yang palingseringdigunakandengan mean score 3,6 yangkemudiandiikutiolehstrategibelajarlainnya yang meliputi:strategicognitive (3.5), strategicompensation (3.4), strategi social (3.1), strategiaffective (3.0), and strategi memory (2.9).   Kata kunci: Strategi Pembelajaran Bahasa, EFL Abstract: This research aims to describe the frequency of language learningstrategies used by students in EFL reading. The participants in this research are the fifth semester students of English Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Tanjungpura University in Academic Year 2013/2014. The data were derived through questionnaire and interview for getting deeper and sharper information. The data was analyzed by using mean score calculation which is followed by ranking every category into high user, medium user, and low user. The finding reveals that it puts the students in overall at medium category user. Also, the result highlights metacognitive strategy as the most frequent strategy used with average 3.6, and followed respectively by cognitive (3.5), compensation (3.4), social (3.1), affective (3.0), and memory strategy (2.9).   Key Words: Language Learning Strategies, EFL

Abstract

Abstract:This research deals with the relationship between Self Regulated Strategy Development with students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. The purpose of this research is investigate the effectiveness of SRSD with the students’ descriptive writing achievement. This research involved 35 students of 9A of SMP Negeri 11 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. The writer applied pre-experimental study on her research with one class as the sample. Based on the result of the pretest, the students’ achievement was 52.7 which categorized at poor to average. The pretest was given before the treatment. After having the treatment, the students had the posttest. The result of the students’ achievement in posttest was 74.8 which categorized as good to excellent. The result of the students’ interval score of pretest and posttest was 22.1. Then the writer analyzed the significance of the students’ interval score of pretest and posttest by using the t-test formula.  Based on the result of the data computation, it was obtained that the t-test score was 5.5. It indicated that the t-test result was higher than t-table and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Based on the result the problem, this thesis answered that SRSD was effective to teach descriptive writing. Hasildari interval skorsiswauntuk pretest dan posttest adalah 22.1. Kemudianpenulismenganalisis interval skorsiswadenganmenggunakan t-test. Hasilnyaadalah t-test siswamencapai 5.5 yang mengidikasikanbahwa ha diterima. Hasilinimenunjukkan SRSD dapatmembantusiswameningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksdeskripsi. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang materi untuk speaking berdasarkan Communicative Language Teaching untuk siswa kelas VIII semester 2 di SMP Negeri 1 Pontianak. Materi tersebut dirancang untuk menyediakan materi speaking alternatif berdasarkan CLT. Sebelum merancang materi speaking, penulis melakukan survey terlebih dahulu. Setelah itu penulis merancang materi speaking yang memiliki prinsip-prinsip dari CLT, prinsip-prinsip merancang materi, aspek-aspek rancangan materi, dan prinsip dari pengembangan materi speaking. Berdasarkan hasil interview siswa dan guru, didapatkan bahwa materi yang dirancang oleh penulis telah memenuhi prinsip-prinsip CLT. Kata kunci: Communicative Language Teaching, Design, Speaking Abstract: This research was aimed at designing speaking material samples based on Communicative Language Teaching for the second semester of eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Pontianak. The materials designed in order to provide the alternative speaking materials based on CLT. Before designing the speaking materials, the writer did a preliminary study. After that, the writer designed speaking material samples which fulfilled the principles of CLT. The speaking materials designed had fulfilled the principles of CLT, principles of material design, aspects of material design and principles of speaking material development. Based on the students and teachers interview, the result showed that the materials designed by the writer had fulfilled the principles of CLT. Abstract

Abstrak:Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui keefektifan teknik membaca jigsaw dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa khususnya pada teks deskriptif terhadap siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak. Penelitian ini juga dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah teknik tersebut dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Studi ini menggunakan metode quasi eksperimen dengan non-equivalent control group design.Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari dua kelompok, yaitu kelas VIII A sebagai kelompok kontrol dan kelas VIII B sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa teknik membaca jigsaw efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh ukuran efek dari teknik membaca jigsaw adalah sebesar 1.21 (efek yang besar). Selain itu, data menunjukkan selisih skor antara pretest dan posttest pada kelompok eksperimen, yaitu sebesar 10,89, lebih tinggi dari selisih skor antara pretest danposttest pada kelompok kontrol, yaitu sebesar 6,03. Hal itu berarti bahwa teknik tersebut dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks dekriptif. Kata kunci: Teknik Membaca Jigsaw, Pembelajaran Kooperatif Abstract: This research was conducted to find out the effectiveness of jigsaw reading technique in improving students reading comprehension on descriptive text to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak. It was also to know whether the technique improved students reading comprehension. This study used quasi experimental method with non-equivalent control group design.The sample of this research consisted of two groups, class VIII A as control group and class VIII B as experimental group. The result of data analysis showed that jigsaw reading technique was effective in improving students reading comprehension on descriptive text. The effect size of jigsaw reading technique was 1.21 (large effect).Besides, the data showed that the interval score between the pretest and posttest in experimental group (10.89) was higher than the interval score between pretest and posttest in control group (6.03). Abstract

Abstract: The title of this research is improving students writing ability on procedure text by using flash card to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sekadau Hulu. The purpose of this research is to improved students writing ability on procedure text. The methode ofthisresearch is classroom action research.Subject of this research is seven grade students class A, consisting 26 students. The result of the research shows that the flash card improved students writing ability on procedure text.The mean score of students increased from 64,13 to 70,77. The average persentage from the first cycle to the second cycle was 67,45.The students are enthusiastic, interested, and motivated to write procedure text by using flash card. Key words: Flash Card, CAR, Writing Ability. Abstrak :Judul penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur dengan menggunakan flash card di SMP Negeri 1 SekadauHulu kelas tujuh. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedure. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek penelitian adalah 26 siswa kelas tujuh SMP Negeri 1 Rawak Hulu. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa flash card meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur.Nilai rata-rata siswaberkisardari 64,13sampai 70,77. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis struktur kalimat yang digunakan oleh para mahasiswa didalam Ontell, dan kesalahan struktur kalimat yang sering dilakukan oleh mahasiswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester ketiga Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Ada 26 siswa yang secara aktif terlibat dalam forum diskusi. Dalam studi ini, peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui posting siswa di forum diskusi. Ada 648 total kalimat yang dihasilkan oleh para siswa secara keseluruhan. Data menunjukkan bahwa pada kenyataannya, siswa dapat menghasilkan berbagai jenis struktur kalimat. Mayoritas kalimat-kalimat yang dihasilkan oleh siswa adalah kalimat sederhana dan kalimat kompleks dengan masing-masing persentase 34,72% dan 42,28%. Selain itu, data menunjukkan bahwa masalah terbesar dengan struktur kalimat adalah kalimat run-on. Dalam banyak kasus, siswa cenderung melakukan kesalahan dalam meletakkan tanda baca untuk menghubungkan antara dua klausa. Persentase kesalahan pada kalimat run-on ini adalah 60,51% dari total kesalahan. Kata kunci: Forum Diskusi Online,Struktur Kalimat Abstract: This research aims to find out the types of sentence structures used by the students in their language production in Ontell, and sentence structure errors commonly made by the students. The subjects of this research were third semester students of English Education Study Program. There were 26 students who actively involved in the discussion forum. The data were derived through students postings in discussion forum. There were 648 total sentences produced by the overall students. The data revealed that in factthe students produced various types of sentence structures. The majority of sentences posted by the students were simple sentence and complex sentence with 34,72% and 42,28% respectively. Furthermore, the data showed that the biggest problem with sentence structures was run-on sentence. In many cases, students tended to misplace punctuation between two independent clauses. Kelas yang dipiliholehpenulisadalahkelas IPA A yang terdiridari 27 siswa.Teknikpengumpulan data yang digunakanadalahpengukurandanalat yang digunakanuntukmengumpulkan data adalahtestertulis.Penelitianinimenunjukkanbahwapenekananbimbingandenganmenggunakan 5WH dalamtahappra-menulisefektifdalammeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.Hasildarianalisis data menunjukkanpeningkatan yang signifikansebesar 21.85 dengannilai rata-rata pretest yaitu 55.19 yang tergolongdalamkriterianilai rata-rata dannilai rata-rata posttest yaitu 77.05 yang tergolongdalamkriterianilaibaik. Efekpengukurandariperlakuanmenunjukkanbahwapenekananbimbingandenganmenggunakanpertanyaan 5WH dalamtahappra-menulissangatefektifdalammeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.   Kata Kunci: PenekananBimbinganPadaTahapPra-Menulis, TeksBerbentuk Hortatory Exposition Abstract: Most of students’ problems in writing are that they do not know how to generate and develop the idea for their writing and how to express their opinion of an idea. To help the students to overcome their problems, the writer used emphasizing guidance technique in prewriting stage by giving the students 5WH questions provided by the writer to help the students to generate the idea for their writing. To help them to use their own opinion of an idea in their writing, the writer chose hortatory exposition text.This research was conducted in a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design and purposed to investigate whether the emphasis of guidance by using 5WH questions can improve students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text to eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013. The class which was taken by the writer was science class A which consists of 27 students. The technique of data collecting was measurement and the tool of data collecting was written test.It was found that emphasizing guidance by using 5WH in prewriting stage is effective in improving students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text. The result of data analysis showed significant improvement of 21.85 with mean score of pretest 55.19 which is qualified as average and mean score of posttest 77.05 which is qualified as good. The effect size of the treatment (1.91) is more than 0.8 and categorized as high. The effect size of treatment shows that emphasizing guidance by using 5WH questions in prewriting stage is highly effective in improving students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text.   Keywords: Emphasizing Guidance in Pre-Writing stage, Hortatory Exposition Text

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this classroom action research is to improve students speaking ability by using retelling technique. This research focus on fluency, accuracy and comprehension. The subject of the research was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sukadana. The tools of data collection used were oral test, field note and observation checklist. In the first cycle, the data could not be assessed because it was not like researcher expected. In the second cycle there were 56,7% srtudents passed and raised became 83,3% in the third cycle. Based on the data taken from the three cycles, it was found that the students fluency, accuracy and comprehension of their speaking improved from cycle to cycle. Keywords: speaking ability, procedure text, retelling technique Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian tindakan kelas ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Fokus penelitian ini adalah kelancaran, ketelitian dan pemahaman. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X di SMA Negeri 1 Sukadana. Alat yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah oral test, field note, dan observation checklist. Pada siklus pertama, data yag diperoleh tidak dapat di nilai karena hasilnya tidak sesuai dengan yang diharapkan peneliti. Pada siklus kedua, ada 56,7% siswa tuntas danmeningkat menjadi 83,3% pada siklus ketiga. Berdasarkan data yang di ambil dari ketiga siklus, telah ditemukan bahwa kelancaran, ketelitian dan pemahaman siswa dalam berbicara meningkat dari siklus ke siklus. Abstract

Artikel ini menyajikan penilaian terhadap materi membaca pada buku teks untuk kelas sebelas semester pertamadengan judul Look Ahead 2 berdasarkan pada nilai-nilai pembangunan karakter yang disediakan oleh Kementrian Pendidikan Indonesia.Data pada penelitian ini adalah materi membaca yang berasala dari unit 1 sampai unit 3 dalam buku teks yang berjudul Look Ahead 2. Alat pengumpul data adalah checklist criterion preferences dan unstructured interview. Teknik penelaahan data adalah penelaahan data kualiatatif dengan menggunakan metode telaah dokumen. Kriteria-kriteria peneilaian adalah berdasarkan pada kriteria pendidikan karakter oleh Kementrian Pendidikan Indonesia. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelaahan data, terdapat beberapa nilai pendidikan karakter pada materi membaca tersebut. Diantaranya adalah peduli lingkungan, peduli sosial, rasa tanggung jawab, cinta membaca, kejujuran, rasa ingin tahu, dan kedisiplinan. Hanya ada satu teks yang tidak mengandung nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yaitu di unit II berjudul The Black Cat. Kata Kunci: Pembangunan Karakter, Materi Membaca, and Buku Teks Abstract: This article presents the evaluation of reading materials for first semester of eleventh grade senior high school textbook entitled Look Ahead 2 based on characters building values promoted by Indonesia Ministry of Education. The data of this research are reading materials taken from unit 1 until unit 3 in the textbook entitled Look Ahead 2. Tools of data gatherings were checklist criterion preferences and unstructured interview. The technique of data analysis was qualitative data analysis by using document analysis method. The criteria were based on the characters building criteria by Indonesia Ministry of Education. Based on the data analysis, there are values of character building contained in the reading materials. They are environmental respect, social respect, responsibility, love reading, honesty, curiosity, and self-discipline. Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe the teachers’ perspective towards the use of Internet in English language teaching and learning. The subjects of this study were eight English teachers from three junior high schools in different locations. This research used case study, involves three instruments such as, demographic question, questionnaire and interview, and described triangulation data to the findings. Based on the findings, the teachers had positive perspectives in using Internet as the appropriate tool for finding the material although some of them did not use Internet. The teachers who did not use Internet stated that they did not have Internet ability because they did not well-trained in using it. Particularly, the case was caused by the teachers’ age and teaching period. Even though, they were old generations, they were interested in using Internet. In order to improve their Internet skills, they needed training. Key words: Teachers’ Perspective, English Language Teaching, Internet Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan pengalaman guru dan kepercayaan guru terhadap penggunaan media Internet dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah delapan orang guru SMP dari tiga sekolah yang berbeda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan menggunakan instrumen pertanyaan demograpik, kuisioner dan wawancara dan menjabarkan semua instrument tersebut di bagian temuan penelitian. Berdasarakan hasil penelitian, guru tersebut mempunyai pandangan yang positif terhadap penggunaan Internet sebagai media yang tepat dalam mencari materi meskipun beberapa dari guru tersebut tidak menggunakan Internet. Guru yang tidak menggunakan Internet menyatakan bahwa mereka tidak mempunyai kemampuan berinternet karena mereka tidak terlatih dengan baik dalam menggunakan Internet.hal ini disebabkan oleh faktor usia dan pengalaman mengajar. Meskipun mereka termasuk generasi tua, mereka tetap tertarik dengan penggunaan Internet. Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Internetnya, guru tersebut membutuhkan pelatihan.
