Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground : Currently, there are many antibacterial soap products circulating in the community. To inhibit or kill bacteria, some soaps add an active substance that acts as an antimicrobial. However, repeated use of synthetic soap can cause skin irritation, dry skin, rashes and bacterial resistance. Some soap products add herbal ingredients to reduce side effects, including soap made from green betel, lime and aloe vera. Objective : This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the differences in antibacterial inhibitory ability of hand soap products made from green betel, lime and aloe vera on the market against the growth of staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Methods : The type of research used is a Quasi Eksperimental disc diffusion method with a research design of the Posttest – only Nonequivalent control group design. The treatment group in this study consisted of a positive control (triclosan), a negative control (Sterile distilled water) and commercial handwashing soap made from green betel, lime and aloe vera with 5 repetitions for each group against the staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Data analysis used One Way Anova statistical test with 95% confidence level.Result : Based on the measurement result, the largest inhibition zones were soap made from lime which was 26.4 mm, aloe vera 22.0 mm and green betel 18.8 mm which indicated that each experimental preparation had antibacterial potential and soap made from lime had a more effective inhibitory power in inhibiting the growth of staphylococcus aureus. Analysis of One Way Anova and Dunnet T3 tests obtained p result smaller than a = 0.05, whuch means that there is a significant difference in the mean diameter of the inhibition zone between the treatment groups. Conclusion : There is a significant difference in the antibacterial effectiveness of hand washing soap made from green betel, lime and aloe vera against staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Keywords : Hand soap, Antibacterial, Inhibition, Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract

Water is a basic human need and access to clean water will improve a person’s health. However, some communities have limited access to clean water. Difficulty in obtaining clean water will increase the risk of infectious disease transmission and reduce the food security of families and communities, especially in rural areas. These two things certainly increase the risk of stunting in children. This is also a problem in Kualin Village. Therefore, Kualin Village became a Community Service Intervention Village particularly in providing clean water. The activity was carried out in Hamlet 4, Kualin Village, South Central Timor Regency with involvement of participants such as Kualin Village residents, JPM staff and experts, and from FKKH Undana lecturers. The IbM project was divided into few stages, began with an initial survey to determine the initial condition of the damaged water network. Subsequently, a follow-up survey was carried out to determine and calculate the analysis of equipment and tools requirements related to the damaged water network. This activity was preceded by community outreach to inform the position and location of the damaged plumbing system and repair plans. The survey results were then used as standards for improving and implementing clean water installations. After the water installation was repaired, a trial of its use was carried out, which was then followed by the formation of a work team and water committee comprised of the officials and residents of Kualin Village to ensure the continuity of this project, which is expected to improve the well-being and health of Kualin Village residents

Abstract

Background: Prolonged use of diclofenac sodium can cause gastric mucosal damage through cyclooxygenase inhibition and oxidative stress. Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) contains curcumin and other bioactive compounds with potential gastroprotective properties. Objective: To determine the dose-dependent gastroprotective effect of turmeric extract against diclofenac sodium-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats. Methods: This experimental study used 28 male Sprague-Dawley rats randomly allocated into four groups (n=7): normal control, negative control (diclofenac 10 mg/kgBW for 7 days), and two treatment groups receiving turmeric extract at 100 mg/kgBW (P1) or 200 mg/kgBW (P2) for 14 days following diclofenac induction. Gastric tissues were evaluated histopathologically using a qualitative description. Results: The negative control group showed severe erosion and inflammatory infiltration. Both treatment groups demonstrated gastroprotective effects with minimal epithelial damage and no inflammatory changes. The 200 mg/kgBW dose showed superior protection compared to 100 mg/kgBW. Conclusion: Turmeric extract provides dose-dependent gastroprotection against diclofenac-induced gastric injury, with 200 mg/kgBW demonstrating superior efficacy.
