Abstract

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the most significant global public health challenge, significantly impacting both developed and developing countries. The results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) indicate that NCDs such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and hypertension remain a major issue in Indonesia and Central Java Province.  Early detection of NCD risks through blood sugar, blood pressure, uric acid, and cholesterol level tests plays a crucial role in preventing and managing these chronic conditions. Objective: This community service activity aims to support NCD prevention efforts at the local level, particularly in Central Java, by involving the community in early detection programmes and promoting healthy behaviours. Method: This community service activity was carried out in June 2025 in Geneng Village, Demak, using a participatory method involving active community engagement. The program consisted of planning, health examinations, health education, and follow-up. A total of 51 participants from the productive and elderly age groups underwent health checks including blood pressure, blood glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol using standardized tools. The results were recorded, interpreted according to the Ministry of Health categories, and delivered to participants along with education on healthy lifestyles, such as dietary modifications, physical activity, and routine health monitoring. Data were analyzed descriptively and the results were also submitted to the local Public Health Center as input for non-communicable disease prevention programs. Result: The screening showed that 57.7% of respondents had high blood pressure, 13.04% had high blood sugar, 53.5% had high cholesterol, and 13.9% had high uric acid. These four types of screening can serve as important indicators and play a strategic role in the early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), enabling health interventions to be implemented in a timely and appropriate manner to prevent further complications. Respondents were then provided with an explanation of their screening results, including an interpretation of the health check results and recommendations for a healthy lifestyle. Conclusion: The conclusion from this community service activity is that some respondents still have hypertension, abnormal blood sugar levels, high uric acid, and high cholesterol.

Abstract

Experimental design is a fairly old method of statistically analyzing an experimental prediction. This is used to replace a fairly old system as well, namely in the form of a trial and error method. Because with this method the response results approach from a study can be predicted statistically. In this study, we will calculate some torque values of a propeller on a displacement ship type. Where the ship's operational displacement ship runs on a Froude number below 0.25, for that the Wageningen B-series propeller type is very suitable for this ship. Furthermore, dimensional analysis is carried out with variables that affect propeller performance and uses multivariate combination calculations. The results of the study show the regression equation between the KQ values of the B-series propeller data and the regression formula with the equation Y = 0.9916x + 0.000835 with the value of R2 being 0.9931. so we try to apply an experimental design method to be validated with the polynomial results of the B-series propeller on blades 3 to 6, so that the statistical method of this experimental design is up-to-date in propulsion design calculations.

Abstract

Slamming is a critical dynamic load for small, high-speed craft because repeated hull–wave impacts can generate intense stresses and deformations that threaten structural integrity. This study investigates the probabilistic risk of slamming and the resulting structural response of an aluminium speedboat by integrating seakeeping motion analysis with structural evaluation. First, vessel motions and wave-induced pressures were computed using the Boundary Element Method (BEM) under regular wave conditions with significant heights of 0.125 m, 0.25 m, and 0.50 m. Heave and pitch motions were quantified through Response Amplitude Operators, and their statistics were used to estimate the probability of bottom slamming. The probability associated with pitch increased from 54 % at 0.125 m to 86 % at 0.50 m, showing that pitch is the dominant trigger for slamming. The calculated hydrodynamic pressures were then applied to a detailed Finite Element Method (FEM) model of the aluminium hull to evaluate structural stresses and deformations. As wave height increased from 0.125 m to 0.50 m, the maximum slamming load rose from 2.28 × 10⁻³ MPa to 9.10 × 10⁻³ MPa, causing peak structural stresses to climb from 4.77 MPa to 19.06 MPa and maximum deformations from 0.19 mm to 0.76 mm. Stress concentrations were consistently located on unsupported bottom plating near the bow, while areas reinforced by transverse frames experienced much lower response. These findings demonstrate that both sea-state severity and hull reinforcement layout govern slamming vulnerability, providing practical guidance for strengthening small craft against impulsive wave impacts.

Abstract

The Polbeng Research Vessel is a small research ship developed by Politeknik Negeri Bengkalis (Polbeng) in collaboration with CV. Fatih Bahari Engineering. The vessel is constructed from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and has principal dimensions of 9 m length overall (LOA), 2.2 m breadth, and 1.2 m depth, powered by an 85 HP outboard engine. This study aims to evaluate the seakeeping and motion comfort performance of the vessel to support research activities involving personnel and onboard equipment. The seakeeping analysis is conducted using a frequency-domain approach based on Response Amplitude Operators (RAOs), where ship motions are evaluated under regular wave conditions. Four operational cases are considered, involving two wave heights (0.2 m and 0.4 m) and two wave encounter directions, namely beam seas (90°) and head seas (180°). Three ship motions are analyzed: heave, roll, and pitch. The results indicate that roll motion in beam seas conditions exhibits the most significant response compared to other motions, which is consistent with the theoretical characteristics of small vessels having shorter restoring arms for roll motion. Overall, the vessel’s motion responses remain within acceptable limits and satisfy established comfort criteria based on NORDFORSK 1987, STANAG 4154, U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), ISO 2631/1, ISO 2631/3, and BS 6841:1987 standards. The findings provide technical insight into the seakeeping behavior and comfort performance of HDPE-based small research vessels and serve as a reference for the design, evaluation, and development of environmentally friendly research and working vessels to enhance operational safety and effectiveness.

Abstract

The structural response analysis of an aluminum speedboat during slam-ming due to regular waves was conducted using the one-way fluid-structure interaction method. This method involves generating waves through hydrody-namic diffraction to obtain loads, which are then applied to the ship's struc-ture and analyzed using finite element analysis. It is known that the greater the force generated from slamming , the stress and deformation at the critical load point will increase. In addition to being influenced by the critical point, the maximum stress is also influenced by the ship's construction design. It has been found that the highest stress and deformation occur on the surface of the plate that is not supported by the transverse construction. Therefore, it can be concluded that the construction design can influence the magnitude of the structural response to the slamming event . Efforts that can be made by ship designers and manufacturers are to convert ships by using materials that are better at absorbing loads, such as the use of sandwich materials

Abstract

The world of shipping industry keeps evolving to develop the most efficient ship designs, including tanker ship designs. According to MARPOL Annex 1 Regulation 19, oil tankers over 600 deadweight and built after 6 July 1996 must have wing tank and double bottom structures, which significantly reduce the cargo hold volume. Therefore, the objective of this research is to optimize the cargo hold volume by converting the conventional sloped hopper into a rounded inner bilge configuration. The optimization problem is formulated with the cargo oil tank volume as the objective function to be maximized. The design variables include the inner bilge radius and the positions of two cargo landing points at each knuckle along the cargo oil tank, defined in transverse and vertical coordinates. The constraints consist of regulatory and design requirements, including clearance, stability, freeboard, and longitudinal strength. Grid search method is employed to systematically evaluate all possible combinations of design variables, ensuring identification of the global optimum. The optimisation process is automated using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) integrated with ship modelling software. The research resulted in a new design that increased the cargo oil tank volume by 0.960%. A sister ship with the same payload could be built with an optimized cargo oil tank design configuration by reducing the length of the cargo oil tanks and the ship itself. However, this improvement comes with a trade-off in terms of practical applicability during the shipbuilding process.
