Abstract

The first year of college presents various challenges, particularly for out-of-town students adapting to independent living without direct family support. Medical students, especially first-years, often face high stress levels. This study examines the relationship between stress levels and module completion rates among out-of-town and local students. An observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design was used, involving 251 first-year Medical Study Program students at Universitas Andalas for the 2023 Academic Year. A total of 162 students met the inclusion criteria, with data collected from June to October 2024. Stress levels were measured using the Medical Student Stressor Questionnaire (MSSQ), and module completion rates for Modules 1.1–1.6 were obtained from academic records. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 73.5% of respondents were out-of-town students, with severe stress reported by 45.4% of out-of-town and 44.2% of local students. Academic Related Stressors (ARS) were the dominant stress factor. Module completion rates were 68.1% for out-of-town and 69.8% for local students. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between stress levels and module completion rates (p = 0.002). The study concludes that stress levels significantly affect module completion rates. Students are encouraged to improve time management skills to reduce stress and enhance academic outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose: The number of pasung cases in West Sumatra in 2020 was still relatively high, totaling 122 people. Of the 19 city districts, Padang Pariaman district is the first with the highest prevalence of pasung mental cases, 24 people. In addition to psychopharmaceutical therapy, the management of schizophrenia requires psychosocial interventions such as family psychoeducation. Families have an important role in helping schizophrenia patients to realize the pasung-free program launched by the government. Methods: Pre-experimental study by one-group pre-test and post-test design conducted in September 2021-June 2022 involving 18 families of schizophrenia patients who were shackled in the Padang Pariaman Public Health Center area. Univariate data analysis is presented as a frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using paired sample t-test and Wilcoxon test. Results: The level of knowledge before the family psychoeducation intervention was poor (94.4%), and the level of knowledge after the family psychoeducation intervention was good (55.6%), the perception before the family psychoeducation intervention was poor (88, 9%) and the perception after family psychoeducation intervention is good (50.0%), there is an effect of psychoeducation intervention on the level of knowledge of families of schizophrenia patients who are shackled p=0.001 (<0.05), and there is an effect of psychoeducation intervention on the perception of families of schizophrenia patients who are shackled p=0.001 (<0.05). Conclusion: Family psychoeducation interventions are very helpful in increasing family knowledge and perceptions of schizophrenia disorders, and it is hoped that Puskesmas Agencies will be more proactive in providing family psychoeducation to reduce the number of cases of pasung in the puskesmas working area.

Abstract

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period that is vulnerable to the emergence of risky behaviors, such as smoking, promiscuity, and lack of health concern. These behaviors can negatively impact adolescent growth and development physically, mentally, and socially. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and awareness regarding preventing risky behaviors through a health education program for students of SMPN 23, Padang City. The activity methods include preparation and problem identification stages, coordination with partners, and implementation stages, including interactive counseling, group discussions, and distribution of leaflets and promotional banners. The first day of education targeted all students in grades VII and VIII of SMPN 23 Padang. On the second day, education focused on members of the Adolescent Health Cadre (KKR) and the Student Council (OSIS), totaling 27 people. Evaluation was carried out with pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in knowledge. The activity results showed a significant increase in the average knowledge score of the cadre students (77.78 to 94.07). In addition, the students showed enthusiasm and active involvement throughout the activity. This educational activity was successfully implemented smoothly and brought about an increase in knowledge among students, KKR cadres, and OSIS. Cadre students understand their role and are expected to be able to serve as peer educators when their peers encounter health issues or risky behavior. Similar activities, involving teachers and parents, need to be implemented continuously to optimize risky behavior prevention.
