Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the 10 leading causes of death in the world. TB treatment that requires regularity over a long period of time has an impact on decreasing motivation for treatment in TB patients, this decrease in motivation can cause boredom which results in incomplete TB treatment. One of the external factors that can increase motivation for treatment is support from health personnel and family. This study aims to determine relationship between support from health personnel and family with treatment’s motivation in Pulmonary TB patients. Methods: This quantitative study uses a correlation analysis design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was 70 Pulmonary TB patients who were taken using the total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a valid and reliable questionnaire to measuring health personnel’s support and family also treatment’s motivation. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman Rank test. Results: A total of 44 patients (62.9%) felt good support from health personnel, 51 patients (72.9%) felt good family support, and 44 patients (62.9%) had high treatment’s motivation. There was a significant relationship between health personnel’s support (p = 0.001; r = 0.344) and family’s support (p = 0.0001; r = 0.497) with treatment’s motivation. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between health personnel’s support and family with treatment’s motivation for pulmonary TB patients. Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease marked by high blood glucose due to insulin dysfunction. Its prevalence is rising, with Indonesia ranking seventh globally. Unhealthy lifestyles and stress exacerbate the issue, highlighting the need for improved prevention and management strategies. This study examines how lifestyle and stress influence DM incidence in Indonesian patients, identifying risk factors to enhance healthcare strategies. A systematic review using PRISMA guidelines analyzed studies from various databases (2019-2024), selecting relevant articles based on inclusion criteria and extracting key research data. From 10 reviewed journals, 4 linked lifestyle to DM, 1 identified sedentary behavior as a prediabetes risk, and 5 highlighted stress as a major factor. Preventing and managing DM requires a healthy lifestyle, stress management, and healthcare interventions to enhance patient well-being while reducing economic and health burdens.

Abstract

Cancer is a chronic disease that not only affects patients physically, but also causes significant psychosocial distress. These psychosocial aspects have been shown to reduce patients' quality of life, yet are often overlooked in clinical practice. In fact, psychosocial-based interventions can strengthen emotional resilience and improve overall therapeutic outcomes. This review aims to evaluate the contribution of psychosocial aspects to cancer patients' quality of life based on recent scientific literature. This study was a systematic literature review by searching articles from two major databases, namely PubMed and Google Scholar, within the period 2020-2025. The search strategy was organized based on the PICO framework using keywords such as “psychosocial factors”, “quality of life”, and “cancer patients”. From a total of 180 articles found, 28 duplicate articles were eliminated, leaving 152 unique articles. The next stage of screening was done by reviewing the titles and abstracts, so 79 irrelevant articles were excluded and 73 articles continued to the next stage. At the eligibility assessment stage, 32 articles were selected after full-text reading and evaluation based on the inclusion criteria, which included discussing the relationship between psychosocial aspects and the quality of life of cancer patients, being available in full-text format, and written in either English or Indonesian. Finally, an in-depth evaluation of the quality and relevance of the articles was conducted, resulting in only 10 articles being deemed eligible for analysis in this literature review. The literature review indicated that psychosocial aspects such as anxiety, depression, coping, social support, and spirituality were shown to determine the quality of life of cancer patients. Psychosocial aspects are important determinants of cancer patients' quality of life.

Abstract

Patients who are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often require mechanical ventilation due to respiratory failure. One of the common problems that arises in patients with mechanical ventilation is the buildup of sputum, which can interfere with the ventilation process as well as lower the tidal volume. To overcome this, a combination of clapping and suction interventions are used as a therapeutic method with the aim of helping to clear the airways and improve ventilation function. This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of clapping and suction on tidal volume in patients with respiratory failure using mechanical ventilation. The research design used a pre-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest approach on 43 respondents in the ICU room. Interventions in the form of clapping and suction are given in a structured manner according to standard nursing procedures. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (53.5%), with the most medical diagnosis being SNH (23.3%). Most of the respondents were in the late adult age category (32.6%) and used PCV ventilation mode (51.2%). Before the intervention, most respondents had a low tidal volume (72.1%), while after the intervention the majority had an increase to the normal category (90.7%). The Wilcoxon test showed a value of p = 0.001, which means that there is a significant effect of the combination of clapping and suction on the increase in tidal volume. Thus, it can be concluded that the combination of clapping and suction is an effective intervention in increasing tidal volume in patients with respiratory failure with mechanical ventilation at the ICU of RSI Sultan Agung Semarang.

Abstract

Hemodialysis is the primary life-sustaining therapy for patients with end-stage Chronic Kidney Disease. However, the complex burden of therapy has the potential to affect quality of life. The relationship between HD duration and quality of life still shows inconsistent results, warranting further investigation. This observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design involved 99 HD patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. Sampling was conducted using consecutive sampling. HD duration data were collected from medical records, and quality of life was measured using the KDQOL-SF™ questionnaire. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and the Gamma correlation test. Most respondents were aged 51–70 years, female, had elementary school education, and worked as farmers. Analysis revealed a significant and positive relationship between the duration of HD and quality of life. Patients with an HD duration of more than 24 months tended to have a better quality of life compared to those with a duration of less than 12 months. The duration of hemodialysis has a strong positive correlation with the quality of life of CKD patients. This finding indicates that patient adaptation to the disease and therapy improves over time. Intensive support interventions are recommended for new patients to accelerate the adaptation process during the initial phase of therapy.

Abstract

Non-hemorrhagic stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability, frequently resulting in upper-extremity muscle weakness, particularly reduced handgrip strength and limited joint range of motion. These impairments substantially diminish patients’ functional capacity and independence. Active-assisted Range of Motion (ROM) exercises combined with spherical grip training are believed to stimulate neuromuscular function and enhance muscle strength through repetitive motor practice. This study employed a pre-experimental two-group pretest–posttest design involving 36 respondents (18 in the intervention group and 18 in the control group) at RSUD Dr. H. Soewondo Kendal. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Muscle strength was measured using Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), while joint range of motion was assessed with a goniometer. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in handgrip strength and in most joint range-of-motion parameters following active-assisted ROM therapy with spherical grip (p ≤ 0.05). In contrast, the control group showed no statistically significant changes. These results indicate that active-assisted ROM therapy with spherical grip is effective in improving handgrip strength and joint range of motion in patients with non-hemorrhagic stroke. Therefore, this intervention is recommended as an integral component of nursing rehabilitation programs to enhance motor function and improve post-stroke quality of life

Abstract

HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a serious illness caused by the HIV virus, which attacks the immune system, leading to high morbidity and mortality. HIV cases in Indonesia reached an estimated 503,201 people in 2024. In addition to biological challenges, people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) face severe psychosocial stress, primarily due to stigma and discrimination within both the family and the wider community. Therefore, the critical aspect of psychosocial adaptation requires a holistic approach, particularly through family support, to reduce stigma and ensure PLWHA receive optimal support. To determine the relationship between stigma and family support on the psychosocial adaptation of HIV/AIDS patients. This study used a quantitative research approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 79 respondents. Sampling was determined using the accidental sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed using the Spearman's rho correlation test. The results of the Spearman's rho correlation test indicate a relationship between stigma and family support on the psychosocial adaptation of HIV/AIDS patients. A relationship exists between stigma and family support on the psychosocial adaptation of HIV/AIDS patients.
