Abstract

Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) has many benefits for medicine, manufacturing, and nanotechnology due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Interlocking bricks (i-bricks) are widely used in sustainable housing for efficient air circulation and reducing humidity inside the house. If CaCO3 is mixed with interlocking brick, it can inhibit bacterial growth, leading to a healthier indoor environment. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the physical characterization and antibacterial activity of CaCO3-reformulated i-brick, and its anti-inflammatory potential in mice infected with Salmonella typhimurium. The physical characterization of CaCO3-reformulated i-brick (F1-F10 formulas), including its density, compression, and absorption, was analyzed. The inhibitory activity of CaCO3-reformulated i-brick on S. typhimurium growth was determined using a linear regression equation between culture age and cell density values. BALB/c male mice were randomly divided into four groups (n=4): healthy mice (N), S. typhimurium-infected mice (S), S. typhimurium-infected mice treated with F6 formula (F6) and F7 formula (F7) for 7 days. After 7 days of treatment, lymphocytes were isolated to determine the relative number of TGF-beta, interleukin (IL)-10, and TNF-alpha using flow cytometry analysis. The results showed that formulas 6 and 7 of CaCO3-reformulated i-bricks exhibited optimal physical properties, including density, compression, and water absorption. These formulas also inhibited the growth of S. typhimurium. Furthermore, formulas 6 and 7 possessed anti-inflammatory effects in S. typhimurium-infected mice indicated by the high increase in IL-10 and TGF-beta production and low levels of TNF-alpha. In conclusion, CaCO3 brick formulation can inhibit the growth of S. typhimurium and exert an anti-inflammatory effect. Further investigation is needed to reveal the effect of CaCO3-reformulated i-bricks on another inflammatory marker to further elucidate its anti-inflammatory mechanism.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Housing projects are classified as complex and therefore require risk management analysis for economic and business sustainability for developers. Objective: To apply the risk management science approach to understand the dynamics of contingency costs in real housing construction projects and relate it to strengthening student competencies in construction project-based learning. Method: This research is descriptive because it aims to provide an overview of the facts in the field and the observed phenomena regarding the analysis of dominant contingency cost factors in housing development projects in Malang Raya. Data analysis: Data was obtained through interviews and questionnaires, then analyzed on several factors that influence cost contingencies in housing projects. Results: The dominant factors influencing contingency costs in housing development projects in Malang Raya consist of four main factors: Design, financial, human resources, and engineering. The contingency costs in housing development projects in Malang Raya generally range from 5% to 7.5% of the total project value. Contingency costs are higher in type 36 and 45 housing projects, especially with DP below 20%. Solutions that can be implemented to address risks that cause contingency costs to arise include preventive and corrective actions tailored to each risk factor.

Abstract

This research is an applied linguistic research in the translation field. The source chosen is an online comic or webtoon titled Sarimin by Nagaterbang. This research chooses Sarimin as the research subject because its theme heavily relies on Indonesian mysticism, making emphasis on several culturally specific items in the form of words, phrases, and sentences that are very hard to translate into English. There are three things studied in this research: (1) cultural terms in Sarimin, (2) translation techniques for the cultural terms, and (3) the translation ideology used in translating the cultural terms. The unit data are words, phrases, and sentences. The data are taken from the first season. The theoretical framework used in this analysis is the translation techniques from Molina and Albir (2002), Newmark's specific cultural terms (1988), and strategies of translation by Venuti (2001). From this study, it is found that the categories of cultural terms that appear most often are social culture with 39% with organizations, customs, and ideas items follows, not too far, with 35%. The study also found that the translator relied on adaptation which takes 41% of the items, and prioritizes domestication over foreignization. The analysis of the translation techniques reveals that many cultural elements cannot be translated as is and the chosen method may vary based on the context of the story. The findings highlight the need for translation guidelines to balance these two ideologies to preserve cultural richness while making the translation relatable to the target audience.
