Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of inflation, exchange rate, and population on Indonesia’s economic growth from 1993 to 2023 using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) approach. The research utilizes secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the World Bank. The stationarity test shows that most variables become stationary at the first difference. Johansen cointegration test results indicate a long-term equilibrium relationship among the variables. In the short run, VECM estimation results show that only the population variable is significantly affected by changes in other variables, while inflation and exchange rate do not show significant short-term impacts. The Impulse Response Function (IRF) and Variance Decomposition analysis confirm that population has a more dominant and persistent effect on economic growth compared to inflation and exchange rate, both of which exhibit relatively weak influence. These findings highlight the strategic role of demographic dynamics in shaping macroeconomic performance. Therefore, improving population quality and managing demographic trends should be prioritized in national development planning to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of human capital development on poverty levels in Purworejo Regency during the 2019-2023 period. The main focus is to identify variables related to poverty and provide human capital-based policy recommendations. This research uses econometric models, namely the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) models. The dependent variable analyzed is the poverty rate, while the independent variables include Mean Years of Schooling (MYS), Expected Years of Schooling (EYS), Life Expectancy Rate (LER), and Per Capita Expenditure (PCE). The findings reveal significant correlations between all human capital variables and poverty reduction. The health dimension, measured by LER, showed the strongest impact on poverty reduction. The SUR model shows a 4.01% improvement in efficiency compared to the OLS model. Poverty alleviation policies should focus on strengthening the healthcare system, improving educational access, and empowering the economy, with direct interventions in healthcare and education. This study stands out for its use of the SUR model to analyze the simultaneous effects of human capital variables on poverty, addressing the limitations of previous studies that used the OLS model.

The reason for choosing palm oil exports is because Indonesia's largest export commodity is palm oil, the method used is the revealed comparative advantage index to measure comparative advantage and the gravity model to measure factors that influence exports, the results show that Indonesia has a comparative advantage for trading partner countries, then Indonesia's GDP has a positive but insignificant effect on palm oil exports, the GDP of trading partner countries has a negative but insignificant effect, the exchange rate has a negative but insignificant effect on palm oil export, population significantly effect on palm oil exports and economic distance has a negative but insignificant effect on palm oil export.
