Abstract

Katuk has been used by the Indonesian citizen as a breast milk enhancer for breastfeeding mothers. People consume katuk in the form of decoction, herbal tea, or capsules. These preparations has a strong katuk taste and aroma. Preparation of ethanol extract of katuk leaves in herbal syrup has not been developed yet. The advantage of syrup is that it can cover unpleasant odors and aromas. Propylene glycol is an additional ingredients in the syrup which functions as a cosolvent which can increase solubility. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of propylene glycol on the physical preparation of katuk leaf ethanol extract herbal syrup. The herbal syrup formula for ethanol extract of katuk leaves contains katuk leaf extract, sucrose, anhydrous citric acid, methylparaben, propylparaben, glycerin, peppermint oil, distilled water, and propylene glycol with varying concentrations between 5-20%. The results of the research showed that extract yield of 10.6%. Katuk leaves extract ethanol contain flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins. The results of the physical preparation test of katuk leaf ethanol extract herbal syrup showed liquid form, green color, katuk leaf aroma, pH of around 6.16-6.20, specific gravity of around 1.1673-1.2523 g/mL, viscosity of around of 5.53-16.00 cPs, clarity, homogeneous, and displaced volume is 100 mL. The conclusion obtained is that the difference in propylene glycol composition does not affect the shape, color, aroma, pH, clarity, homogeneity, and displaced volume test. The greater the propylene glycol composition, the smaller the specific gravity and viscosity.

Abstract

The role of community pharmacists in providing drug information is increasingly important to improve the safety of drug use by the public. However, public perceptions of the role of pharmacists may vary between regions. This study aims to analyze the influence of region of residence on the perceptions of Indonesians regarding the role of community pharmacists in Drug Information Services (DIS). The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design through the distribution of an online questionnaire covering six variables: General Awareness (GA), Effectiveness (EFF), Collaboration (COLL), Barriers (BARR), Trustworthiness (TRUST), and Drug Information Service (DIS). Validity testing was conducted using KMO and Bartlett's Test as well as PCA factor analysis, which showed that all items had a KMO value > 0.5 and met the construct validity requirements. Reliability was tested using Cronbach's Alpha, with all variables having a value > 0.7, indicating excellent internal consistency. Chi-Square analysis was used to examine the influence of region, while the relationship between variables was tested using Pearson's correlation. The results showed that region did not affect all perception variables (p > 0.05), indicating that public perception was uniform nationwide. Rank Spearman correlation showed that all variables were significantly related, especially between Barriers and PIO (r = 0.768). It is recommended that pharmacists improve the quality of communication and education to strengthen the implementation of PIO in the community.

Abstract

Pharmacists play an important role in health promotion as part of disease prevention and quality of life improvement efforts. In their development, community pharmacists not only function as medicine providers, but also as health workers who provide education, counseling, and interprofessional collaboration. Public perception of this role still varies, so this study aims to analyze the Indonesian public's perception of the role of community pharmacists in health promotion and education based on job type. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design through an online questionnaire covering six dimensions of perception: general awareness, effectiveness, collaboration, barriers, trustworthiness, and health promotion and education. The sample size was determined using Cochran's formula at a 95% confidence level and a 10% margin of error, resulting in 100 respondents. The analysis was descriptive, using the Chi-Square test for the relationship between occupation and perception, as well as Spearman's correlation between perception variables. The results show that public perception ranges from fairly good to very good, with effectiveness (57%) and collaboration (55%) being the highest. The barriers variable shows a significant relationship with employment (p=0.044), while the other dimensions do not. Strong correlations are seen in general awareness, effectiveness, and collaboration. This study confirms the need to strengthen access to and consistency of health promotion services by community pharmacists.

Abstract

Community pharmacists play a crucial role in pharmaceutical practice in Indonesia, including prescription compounding and medication dispensing. The impact of community education on perceptions of the role of community pharmacists in prescription assessment and medication dispensing has never been investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of respondents' education on perceptions of the role of community pharmacists regarding general awareness (GA), effectiveness (EFF), collaborative care (COLL), barriers (BARR), trustworthiness (TRUST), and prescription review and administration (PRPO) based on respondents' education level. Data were collected from a 21-item questionnaire and analyzed quantitatively and descriptively using a cross-sectional design. The sample size was determined using the Cochran formula, resulting in 100 respondents, with an additional 50 respondents added to the validity test. A significance value of 0.000 and a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.65 indicated that the questionnaire was valid and reliable. The results of statistical analysis using the chi-square test indicate an influence between education level on public perception regarding general awareness (GA), collaborative (COLL), barriers (BARR), trustworthiness (TRUST), while there is no influence between education level on public perception regarding effectiveness (EFF) and prescription review and administration (PRPO). The Spearman rank correlation of this study shows that the pair of variables that have a statistically significant relationship between EFF and PRPO has the highest correlation value (r=0.412).

Abstract

Propionibacterium acnes is one of the bacteria that causes acne. Green betel leaf ( Piper betle L.) is a plant that has been used for generations. Green betel leaf extract contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and phenols that have antibacterial potential. Clay masks are solid mask preparations formulated with clay minerals as the base ingredient. This study aims to determine the characteristics of an anti-acne clay mask made from green betel leaf extract and its antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. Green betel leaves were extracted through maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent then made 4 clay mask preparations which were tested for organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesive power and drying time and antibacterial test was carried out using well method, inhibition zone data were tested using One-Way ANOVA and Duncan test to determine whether there were significant differences between each formula. The results of this study aimed to determine the physical quality and antibacterial activity of green betel leaf extract clay mask preparations against Propionibacterium acnes . The clay mask formula used consisted of F0 (without extract), F1, F2, and F3 with concentration variations of 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% extract. Evaluation of physical quality included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesive power, and drying time tests. The results of the physical preparation test of the green betel leaf ethanol extract clay mask showed a soft, homogeneous shape, green color, betel leaf aroma, Ph around 5-6, spreadability of 5.23-6.73 cm, adhesiveness of 15.5-24.7 seconds and drying time of 12.7-15 minutes. The antibacterial activity test showed that F3 produced the largest inhibition zone of 3 2.9 mm. Statistical analysis using One-Way ANOVA showed that variations in extract concentration had a significant effect on antibacterial activity. Thus, the green betel leaf extract clay mask , especially the F3 formula, has good physical quality and the highest effectiveness as an anti-acne preparation.
