Abstract

Ethnomatemics-based mathematics concept implementation can be carried out through constructivism-based learning such as realistic mathematics, problem-based and learning with a scientific approach. This research purpose to explore the form of ethnomatemics on the woven cabbage leaves of the Tutuwaru community and analyze the process of understanding mathematics from the perspective of indigenous people and indigenous knowledge and examine the development of woven form ethnomatatics in school mathematics. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects are 2 members of the weaving community, while the objects of research are Nyiru (winnowing-basket), Topi (hat), Keranjang dan Bakul (basket). The results showed that the form of weaving from a typical local Koli (cabbage) tree, could be connected with several mathematical concepts such as basic geometry and arithmetic. The hexagonal concept based on the understanding of multiples is an "indegious knowledge" that exists in the Tutuwaru community in constructing the form of nyiru-woven, reflection, points, lines and tessellation. These mathematical ideas can be used as context in school mathematics learning

Abstract

Understanding other cultures is essential, not only for those working in the tourism and hospitality sectors but also for anyone who interacts with people from different cultural backgrounds. People often have different perceptions of other cultures, which may lead to negative judgments. These differences in thinking highlight the need for mutual understanding, both internally and externally. Therefore, this study aims to examine intercultural aspects between Germany and Indonesia, focusing on nonverbal communication—particularly gestures and facial expressions. This research seeks to identify the similarities and differences in gestures and facial expressions between German and Indonesian cultures. Nonverbal communication refers to communication conveyed indirectly through body language or signals. It plays an important role in interaction, encompassing body movements and facial expressions. Both German and Indonesian cultures possess a wide variety of gestures and facial expressions with diverse meanings and purposes. Data were collected by observing videos and reviewing references that document various types of gestures and facial expressions. The findings reveal that there are both similarities and differences in nonverbal expressions between German and Indonesian cultures. Based on these findings, it is important to understand and recognize each culture’s nonverbal communication patterns to avoid misunderstandings regarding gestures and facial expressions or their meanings across cultures.

Abstract

This study aims to develop audiovisual animated teaching materials using the Powtoon application for German language instruction in grade XI. The development followed the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), but was limited to the Develop stage. Initial data were obtained through a needs analysis of teachers and students at SMA Negeri 7 Ambon, which revealed a lack of engaging and interactive teaching materials in German language learning. The product developed was an educational animation video created with Powtoon, covering the topics “Sich und andere vorstellen” and “Schulsachen.” Validation results from subject matter experts and media experts indicated that the developed materials are highly feasible for use as learning media. The strength of the product lies in the integration of visual elements, text, voice narration, as well as contextual and cultural aspects of German, aligned with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. This study is expected to provide an innovative alternative for German language learning that is more engaging, interactive, and suited to the characteristics of 21st-century students.

Abstract

Speaking skills as one of the speaking skills has a high frequency of use because it is inevitable in daily activities. The application of content and language integrated learning (CLIL) model in language learning is one way to encourage students to learn language and content (Sprache und Fach) in a balanced manner. This study aims to describe the effect of using CLIL method on students' speaking ability at niveau A2. The research method is an experiment conducted at the German Language Education Study Programme. The research sample was students who attended the A2.1 Productive Sprachfertigkeit course. The data were collected through a speaking test by referring to the A2 test used by the Goethe Institut. Based on the results of data analysis, it is concluded that the application of CLIL method in learning contributes positively to students' speaking ability. This conclusion is based on the results of statistical calculations which show that the calculation value of t= (5.17) is more significant than Ttab (1.82) at the 0.05 level of significance. On the basis of these findings, it is hoped that the CLIL method can be considered as an alternative in learning German, especially to improve speaking skills.
