Abstract

In today's borderless world, people move quickly, forming diaspora communities with complex cultural lives. The culture shock that causes mental health disruption is common in these diaspora communities. Therefore, the study of this diaspora is crucial to be conducted. The novel entitled How to be an American Housewife represents the difficulties of becoming a diaspora subject in a new country with a new culture. This study focuses on the diaspora experience undergone by Shoko Morgan. The study aims to show the construction of diaspora identity, the condition of the Japanese diaspora community in America, and the author's critical position. This descriptive qualitative research utilized the cultural identity and diaspora theory proposed by Stuart Hall to unveil the diaspora identity in the novel. This research reveals that identity is always in some process of adaptation, transformation, and differences from new environments. The literary work under scrutiny shows the experience of Japanese immigrants at that time, such as feeling alienated, isolated, and discriminated against. Through this novel, Margaret Dilloway has represented her mother's challenging life experiences as a diaspora subject in the USA.

Abstract

Literary works are reflections of society’s nature in real life, and writers often emerge the issue regarding patriarchy in their literary works. Patriarchy is not a new topic and often depicted in literary works, especially in how women of patriarchy are portrayed. This study aims to determine how the practice of patriarchy is represented through the relationship between characters in The Kingdom of Back. In this qualitative research, Stuart Hall’s representation theory, particularly Michel Foucault’s discursive approach is employed to analyze the data. In addition, Sylvia Walby’s concept of patriarchy strengthens the basic assumption. The findings of this study show how The Kingdom of Back presented patriarchy that limits women's freedom and influences the relationship between the characters, which puts women to bear the damage and stand in an unequal position. The novel portrays a woman’s struggle through male domination, oppression, and exploitation in the relationship as a consequence of her desire to resist patriarchal culture, which barred her from achieving her dreams to leave a legacy through her music and composition. Nannerl finally succeeds to overcome the patriarchy barrier and struggling to live as an composer. Furthermore, as the author and diasporic subject, Marie Lu is still influenced by the deep-rooted value of patriarchy from her home country.

The primary data are taken from Neil Gaiman’s Coraline in the form of dialogues, sentences, and narration stated by the character about how an ideal family is represented in the novel. Then, the secondary data are taken from books, internet, and another source related to the representation of an ideal family. This research analyzes the ideal family concept in Coraline by Neil Gaiman with the theory of representation by Stuart Hall. The concept of an ideal family is explained by using the constructionist approach and focuses on the discursive formation. The discursive formation is applied to analyze the discourse of an ideal family that is shown in Coraline. The finding of this research shows that the purpose of the main character, Coraline in hoping to have an ideal family in her life is to feel loved by her parents. Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia"™s capital to Nusantara (IKN) represents a transformational initiative to establish an innovative, sustainable, and inclusive government center in East Kalimantan. Under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, IKN is envisioned as a carbon-neutral city with resilient infrastructure and technology-based public services. Despite 97,2% completion of the first development phase by early 2025, the project faces significant challenges, including heavy reliance on state funding (85%), limited private sector participation (10%), underdeveloped logistics, and a shortage of skilled labor in technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT), and modular construction. This study employs a qualitative exploratory approach using secondary data, integrating SWOT analysis, international benchmarking (Brasília, Naypyidaw, Putrajaya), and technological evaluation. Findings indicate that digital construction technologies can improve project efficiency by up to 30% and reduce material waste by 25%. Alternative financing strategies, including green bonds and Islamic crowdfunding, can potentially increase private investment up to 40% by 2030. For long-term success, IKN must adopt innovative construction practices, invest in digital workforce development, and align with Net-Zero 2045 and the SDGs. This study contributes a comprehensive policy-technology-investment roadmap for sustainable capital development in emerging economies.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how Kathryn Stockett's The Help represents systemic racism and author's critical position towards the racial injustice issue within the novel. This research applies two theories: the representation by Stuart Hall and the theory of systemic racism by Joe. R. Feagin. This research applies a qualitative method with a narrative text analysis approach. The results of this study show that systemic racism plays a role in the level of labor exploitation, economic discrimination, social inequality, and oppressive social norms. Thus, the author's position also shows an effort to criticize the unjust system. However, she notes there are still some limitations since white characters are still central to hold primary control. This study concludes that literary works can function as a medium to voice social criticism of racism, while reflecting the complexity of the author's position in shaping representations of racial injustice.

Abstract

The Beji Antaboga tourist site provides a religious atmosphere full of tolerance by building various statues of religious symbols located in a forest in Banyuwangi. The harmony between humans and nature is very well maintained at this location. This nuance is supported by a fictional story that is believed by the local community, namely the Antaboga dragon. However, the place is fully taken care of by Hindus who are indeed attached to protecting the surrounding nature, and their commitment to guard several points of springs. This research aims to measure the inter-religious relations in the area and also to analyze the extent to which folklore as a discourse can be recontextualized as an effort to harmonize the bond of humans with nature. The research method used is qualitative, the first step applies the narrative structure of the story through actantial theory, the second is tracing the hypogram for the Antaboga story which dated back to Hindu’s teaching, and the last is looking at discourse as a power practice to recontextualize the harmonius reality. The finding shows Antaboga story is indeed to legitimise nature as the centre and not humans as the main actors.
