Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to develop an interactive and engaging Android application prototype called TINTA-QU (At-Tin, Tajwid, Al-Qur’an Hadits Bersamaku) for learning purposes. Method: This study used an R&D approach with the ADDIE model. It was conducted in an elementary school in the Sumedang region with a sample of 23 fourth-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through validation by media and subject matter experts, as well as student response questionnaires. Analysis was performed using percentage calculations to determine the feasibility of the application. Results: The results show that the TINTA-QU application is feasible for use and received positive responses from experts and students. Interactive multimedia features, tajwid content, and character-based Al-Qur'an material increase student motivation and understanding in Islamic Religious Education learning. Theoretical Contribution: The results of this study support the application of Multimedia Learning Theory in the context of technology-based Islamic Religious Education and reinforce the ADDIE model in the development of digital media based on Smart Apps Creator (SAC) as a platform for elementary school-level Qur'an learning media. Implication: This application has the potential to support independent learning and increase learning motivation. Further research is recommended to expand the scope of the material.

Abstract

Student discipline remains a critical issue in Islamic educational institutions, particularly as schools seek character-building strategies that move beyond external control toward internalized moral awareness. This study examines the role of Habituation of Qur’anic Tadarus (HQT) as a spiritual approach to fostering student discipline as an alternative to conventional disciplinary methods. Employing a qualitative field research design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, including the school principal, the coordinator of religious programs, and student representatives, supported by relevant documents and observations. The findings reveal that student discipline is cultivated through a structured habituation process that begins with the school bell and continues with collective Qur’anic tadarus without the use of reward-based incentives. Disciplinary outcomes are reflected in students’ punctual attendance, sustained attention during learning activities, and timely submission of assignments. The HQT program utilizes Juz 30 across all grade levels and is implemented through talaqqi-based teacher guidance, emphasizing consistency and spiritual engagement. These results indicate that spiritual habituation contributes to students’ intrinsic motivation and personal satisfaction, leading to more sustainable disciplinary behavior. This study suggests that integrating Qur’anic-based spiritual practices can strengthen character education and the development of discipline in Islamic educational contexts.

Abstract

Strengthening religious character has become a crucial issue in Islamic education, particularly amidst the increasing phenomenon of moral degradation in the modern era, characterized by a decline in students' ethics, responsibility, and courtesy. This study aims to thoroughly examine the implementation of the Ilqa Kalimah Program as a strategy for strengthening religious character while enhancing the language proficiency of santri (students) at Mafaza Imam Bukhari Boarding School. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects comprise the boarding school leadership, program supervisors, and students directly involved in the execution of Ilqa Kalimah. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity established using source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the Ilqa Kalimah Program is implemented systematically and integrated with worship habituation, the language environment, and religious literacy. The program effectively plays a role in shaping students' religious character—such as discipline, responsibility, spiritual awareness, and communication ethics—while simultaneously improving speaking skills in Arabic and English. Thus, the Ilqa Kalimah Program can be viewed as a relevant and adaptive religious-linguistic educational model in addressing the challenges of moral degradation in the modern educational environment.

Abstract

The disparity between functional literacy skills and the internalization of Quranic values among Generation Z students presents a critical challenge for Islamic education in the digital era. This study aims to identify and map the comprehensive strategies implemented by Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah) in transforming students with low baseline proficiency into individuals embodying the character of Sahabat Al-Qur'an (Companions of the Quran). Utilizing a qualitative multi-site case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation across ten different schools. The analysis reveals that these schools do not rely on monolithic approaches but rather apply a Hybrid Strategy Typology comprising three dimensions: (1) Structural-Disciplinary Strategy, which utilizes strict regulations and parental involvement to enforce initial habituation; (2) Humanist-Exemplary Strategy, which fosters intrinsic motivation through teacher role-modeling and emotional bonding; and (3) Cultural-Environmental Strategy, which engineers physical and digital ecosystems. Significant findings indicate a strategic polarization regarding technology, where some schools adopt a Digital Detox while others pursue Digital Utilization through reflective media analysis. The study concludes that effective character formation requires the simultaneous orchestration of external discipline, psychological support, and adaptive environmental engineering, signaling the need for a shift from teacher-centered instruction toward activity centered student engagement.

Abstract

Amidst the phenomenon of moral degradation in contemporary educational settings characterized by a crisis of integrity, social-emotional instability, and digital ethics violations existing moral curricula often lack a systematic and conceptually robust ethical framework. This study analytically reconstructs the four cardinal virtues (hikmah, shaja’ah, ‘iffah, and ‘adalah) in Ibn Miskawayh’s Tahdhib al-Akhlaq as a transformative model for modern moral curriculum design. Employing a qualitative content analysis, this textual study systematically evaluates the primary philosophical text alongside contemporary Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum documents (Phases A–F) to assess their conceptual correspondence. The structural mapping reveals that while the current curriculum implicitly internalizes Miskawayh’s virtues across all educational phases, it lacks an explicit, hierarchical ethical formulation. Specifically, the analysis demonstrates that hikmah (wisdom), shaja’ah (courage), and ‘iffah (temperance) function as foundational operational virtues that must be systematically integrated to achieve ‘adalah (justice), which acts as the ultimate meta-virtue and synthesizing goal of character formation. By bridging classical Islamic ethical philosophy with contemporary curriculum theory, this study contributes a conceptually innovative framework that transitions moral education from implicitly normative teachings to a structured and measurable curriculum model. Practically, this reconstructed framework provides actionable guidelines for educational policymakers and curriculum developers to explicitly integrate classical virtue ethics into contemporary pedagogical standards and character education policies.
