Abstract

Students accustomed to more teacher-centered methods may find it challenging to take the initiative, create goals, and monitor their learning required by SRL. In addition to covering the essential material, teachers must create projects that promote SRL. This study aimed to test the effect of project-based Learning (PjBL) on empowering students’ self-regulated learning in some schools in South Sulawesi. The current study utilized a descriptive-quantitative methodology with structural equation modelling (SEM) and partial least squares (PLS) statistical analysis. The population of each school is 1.120 students. This study applied random purposive sampling, and the number of samples was 285 students. Findings show that the structural model reflected the relationship between variables and tested the hypothesis in the inner model. The results described that implementation of project-based learning is effective on student’s self-regulated learning is proved by a t-test of 38.745 smaller than the t-table of 1.96 and the p-value is smaller than 0.05 (p-value =0.00) so it can be seen that all indicators on self-regulated learning have a positive influence on the implementation of project-based learning (PjBL) model. It can be concluded that the key determinant that has the most substantial influence on the quality of students is the effective delivery of project-based learning in fostering the development of self-regulated learning. The implication requires professional development to effectively integrate PjBL with SRL strategies. Training could focus on designing projects that promote self-regulation and developing assessment methods of students' SRL skills.

Abstract

The integration of instant messaging services into educational settings has become increasingly prevalent, providing unique opportunities for enhanced communication and learning. This study aimed to examine the viewpoints of educators and students regarding the use of instant messaging services, such as WhatsApp, in their translation education and instruction. The study employed a qualitative research approach, specifically content analysis, to examine the utterances of two translation lecturers and fifteen ESP students. The results revealed that participants unanimously agreed that instant messaging services facilitated their teaching and learning of translation by using consistent terminology and rephrasing complex tasks to provide guidance throughout the chat. This approach enriched the translation understanding of ESP students. The study suggests using one consistent term to refer to the translation process throughout the text. In conclusion, chatting applications like WhatsApp are powerful and efficient communication tools that can facilitate an engaging, authentic, and meaningful learning experience when effectively included in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classrooms for online translation interactions.

Abstract

The butterfly stroke is widely regarded as the most technically and physically demanding swimming style, often posing challenges for physical education students due to its complex coordination of arm movements, leg kicks, and breathing techniques. Project-Based Learning (PjBL) has shown promise in enhancing student engagement, collaboration, and reflective learning in physical education settings. This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of PjBL in improving students’ learning outcomes for the butterfly stroke. Two groups participated: an experimental group exposed to PjBL methods and a control group that received traditional instruction. The intervention was conducted over a designated instructional period within a swimming course. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups. The experimental group achieved a mean gain score 10.83% higher than the control group, with a t(70) = 8.102, p .001. The 95% confidence interval for the mean difference ranged from 8.17% to 13.50%, indicating a consistent and substantial improvement in performance attributed to the PjBL approach. Findings suggest that PjBL fosters improved psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domain development in students learning the butterfly stroke. Enhanced student motivation, teamwork, and reflective engagement appear to be key factors contributing to the learning gains observed. Project-Based Learning significantly enhances learning outcomes in swimming lessons focused on the butterfly stroke. This pedagogical approach can effectively support the development of complex motor skills in physical education.
