Abstract

AbstractThe Covid 19 pandemic is an international disaster that has had an impact on the education sector, namely the transformation from the face-to-face system in class to an online system that has affected students' mathematical communication skills. The research aims to represent the extent to which students' mathematical communication abilities are formed using blended learning. This research was carried out by following the descriptive qualitative method. The research subject includes 28 eighth-grade students from a Public Islamic junior high school in Deli Serdang. Qualitative analysis is seen from the aspect of mathematical communication skills, aspects of errors/mistakes, and aspects of blank answers based on student answer sheets. Researchers used an evaluation sheet of mathematical communication skills and direct interviews as research instruments. The findings were analyzed by using qualitative analysis, and it was found that applying culture-based blended learning could improve students' mathematical communication abilities. In this learning process, students were given mathematical problems associated with culture. The review of the aspects of mathematical communication skills and error indicators was based on Newman, and students were given culture-based math questions on plane figure lesson, namely: (1) the drawing aspect on the error indicator of process skills (8.00) which is at the level of not making high mistakes, (2) aspects mathematical expression on the indicator of transformation errors and misunderstandings (8.22) which is the high level of not making mistakes, and (3) the written text aspect of the answer writing error indicator (7.77) which is the high level of not making mistakes.

Abstract

AbstractIntegral Calculus instruction often faces challenges in developing 21st century skills, particularly in problem-solving. Initial observations indicate that students struggle to apply integral concepts to real-world contexts, largely due to passive, non-interactive conventional teaching methods. This phenomenon leads to low student engagement and inadequate problem-solving abilities. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a Project Based Learning (PjBL)-based student worksheet proven to be valid, practical, and effective as a solution to enhance students' problem-solving skills. This research used the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data were collected through expert validation, student response questionnaires, and N-gain analysis from pre- and post-test results. The findings show that the developed worksheets are highly valid (average 4.5), practical (average student responses above 4.20), and effective (average N-gain 0.71), indicating a significant improvement in students' problem-solving skills. In conclusion, the PjBL-based worksheets successfully serve as a valid, practical, and effective innovation for addressing these learning problems. It is recommended that future research conduct trials on a broader scale to enhance the generalizability of the findings and develop more comprehensive instruments to measure soft skills holistically.

Abstract

This study examines the background of problem-solving ability and creative attitudes among junior high school students, highlighting their importance in fostering innovation and critical thinking in mathematics education. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of problem-solving ability on students' creative attitudes. The classroom process is a learning process that develops local instructional theories for the material of systems of linear equations in two variables. The quantitative study aims to assess the influence of problem-solving ability on students' creative attitudes. This study involved 24 junior high school students in Medan as a sample. The instruments used were a validated problem-solving ability test and a validated creative attitude scale. The results showed that problem-solving ability has a significant positive effect on students' creative attitudes, with a regression coefficient of 0.951, indicating that greater problem-solving ability is associated with stronger creative attitudes. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.597) indicates that 59.7% of the variation in students' creative attitudes is due to problem-solving ability. In contrast, friendship (40.3%) is due to other factors not examined in this study. These findings suggest that problem-solving ability is a key factor in developing creative attitudes. This study highlights the need to integrate problem-solving ability into the educational curriculum to foster students' creative attitudes. Future research should consider using a larger sample size.
