Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pembelajaran KWL dan QAR terhadap motivasi siswa dalam membaca. Metode menggunakan rancangan desain faktorial 2x2. Populasi berjumlah 216 siswa, 72 siswa sebagai sampel dengan Random Sampling. Data menggunakan kuisioner motivasi dan tes membaca dengan ANAVA dua jalur. Hasil diperoleh: (1) hasil belajar membaca siswa yang menggunakan QAR= 85.33 lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan KWL= 77.56, thitung 7.837 ttabel = 1.67, (2) Hasil membaca siswa yang memiliki motivasi tinggi = 83.67 lebih tinggi dibandingkan yang memiliki motivasi rendah = 79.22, thitung 3.551 ttabel = 1.67, dan (3) terdapat interaksi antara strategi mengajar dan motivasi, Fobservasi = 4.670 Ftabel = 3.98. Siswa bermotivasi tinggi memperoleh hasil lebih tinggi dengan KWL, sedangkan bermotivasi rendah mendapat nilai lebih tinggi dengan QAR.This study was intended to examine the implementation of KWL and QAR strategies on students motivation in reading comprehension. The research used an experimental research with factorial design 2x2. The population was 216 students. The sample were 72 students with Random Sampling technique. The data were collected through motivation questionnaire and reading test and analyzed by using Two-Way ANOVA. The finding showed: (1) the students reading comprehension who were taught by QAR strategy was 85.33 higher than those who were taught by using KWL strategy was 77.56 with tcount = 7.837 ttable = 1.67, (2) the students having high motivation was 83.67 higher than low motivation was 79.22 with tcount = 3.551 ttable = 1.67 and (3) there was interaction between teaching strategies and motivation on students reading comprehension, Fobserved = 4.670 Ftable = 3.98. The students having high motivation got higher scores if they were taught KWL strategy, while students having low motivation got higher scores if they were taught QAR strategy.Keywords: KWL, QAR strategies, motivation, reading comprehension

Abstract

Tujuan penelitaian ini adalah untuk  mengetahui 1) apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan siswa dalam   menulis   teks  deskriptif   dengan   menggunakan   teknik   clustering, dan 2) kesulitan apa saja yang dihadapi oleh siswa dalam menggunakan teknik clustering. Tes yang digunakan adalah tes menulis teks deskriptif dan kuisioner. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui pre-test, post-test dan kuisioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik antara pre-test dan post-test setelah penerapan teknik clustering dengan nilai signifikansi 0.05. Selanjutnya, kebanyakan siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam penggunaan kata sifat dan mengembangkan topik utama pada saat menggunakan teknik clustering untuk menulis paragraf deskriptifnya.The aims of this study were to investigate 1) if there was a statistically significant increase of the students’ ability   in   writing   descriptive   paragraphs   by   using clustering technique, and 2) the difficulties the students encountered in using the clustering technique. The writing test and questionnaires were used to collect the data. The data were collected by administering the pre-test, the post-test, and questionnaires. The result showed that there was a statistically significant increase of writing ability between the pre-test and the post-test after the implementing clustering technique with the significant level 0.05. Furthermore, the students most found it difficult to identify adjective and to develop the main idea in clustering the the topic for their descriptive writing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi hubungan antara minat baca siswa dengan pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 30 siswa pada tahun ke dua di SMAN 1 Punggur. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuesioner dan tes membaca. Desain penelitian adalah ex post facto design. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai korelasi antara kedua variable adalah 0.673 dan nilai pengaruhnya adalah 0.434. Hal itu terlihat ketika minat baca siswa tinggi maka nilai tes membaca mereka tinggi. Berdasarkan pada hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan antara minat baca siswa dan pemahaman membaca mereka. Dengan mempunyai minat baca tinggi, maka siswa akan lebih baik memahami bacaan daripada mereka yang mempunyai minat baca rendah.The objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between students reading interest and students reading comprehension. This research was a quantitative research. The sample of the research consisted of thirty students of second grade at SMAN 1 Punggur. The data collecting technique that used were questionnaire and reading test. The design of the research was ex post facto design. The results of this research showed that the coefficient correlation was 0.673 and the coefficient influences value of both variables was 0.434. It was shown when the students got high score in interest score; they also got high score for their reading comprehension. Based on the results of the research it could be concluded that there was correlation between students reading interest and their reading comprehension. By having high reading interest, students were able to read better than those who have low interest.Keywords: reading comprehension, reading interest, correlation.

Abstract

Reading is one of the important skills that the students have to master so that they can get information from the text. However, many students have difficulties in comprehending a text because of uninterested media. Therefore the aim of this research were to find out whether there is a significant difference of students’ narrative text reading comprehension ability before and after being taught through serial pictures and to investigate if there was a increase of students’ narrative text reading comprehension ability after being taught through serial pictures. The samples of the research were the tenth grade of SMA N 8 Bandar Lampung in the year 2012/2013. The research applied one group pre-test post-test design. The result of the learning reading using serial pictures showed that there is a significant difference on students’ reading comprehension (p0.05, p=0.00). The average of post-test score (79.77) was higher than the pre-test (66.97), and it has gain 12.8. It means that there is increase of students’ narrative text reading comprehension ability after being taught through serial pictures.  Keywords:narrative text, reading comprehension, serial pictures

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kesulitan siswa dalam mempelajari pengucapan bunyi-bunyi dasar Bahasa Inggris. Desain penelitian ini adalah studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan dengan menganalisa rekaman pengucapan siswa. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswa kelas lima SD. Rekaman tersebut dianalisis menggunakan inter-rater reliability. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa para siswa hanya mampu mengucapkan 27 bunyi dari 44 bunyi dasar Bahasa Inggris yang ada. Beberapa bunyi dasar sulit diucapkan oleh siswa. Bunyi-bunyi tersebut adalah: Consonants (initial /p/, final /b/, final /d/, middle dan final /?/, /?/, /?/, /v/, /?/, / /, /?/, /z/, /?/ and /r/). Vowels (/i:/, //, /?:/, /?:/, dan initial /?:/). Diphthongs (/??/, middle and final /a?/, initial /e?/, initial dan middle /??/, /e?/ and /??/). Kesulitan mereka dalam mengucapkan bunyi-bunyi tersebut disebabkan oleh perbedaan cara pengucapan atau bahkan bunyi-bunyi tersebut tidak ada dalam Bahasa Indonesia.The objective of this research was to analyze the elementary school students problem in learning English basic sounds pronunciation. The research design was case study. The data were collected by recording the students pronunciation. The subjects of the research were the elementary students grade five. The recorded sounds were analyzed through inter-rater reliability and it was found that all the students could only pronounce 27 of 44 English basic sounds correctly. The result showed that there are several English basic sounds considered difficult to pronounce by the students; they were: consonants (initial /p/, final /b/, final /d/, middle and final /?/, /?/, /?/, /v/, /?/, / /, /?/, /z/, /?/ and /r/). vowels (/i:/, //, /?:/, /?:/, and initial /?:/). diphthongs (/??/, middle and final /a?/, initial /e?/, initial and middle /??/, /e?/ and /??/). The students found problem in pronouncing those sounds which are pronounced in different ways with Indonesian or even the sounds are not found in Indonesian.Keywords: pronunciation, consonants, vowels, diphthongs

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan prestasi belajar siswa antara mereka yang diajar pre-task dan online planning. Penelitian dilakukan secara kuantitatif. Ini melibatkan kelas XI SMK Kosgoro Sribhawono Lampung Timur. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes tulis. Validitas tes penulisan lebih difokuskan pada validitas konstruk di mana peneliti mengembangkan dan mendasarkan tes penulisan. Untuk keandalan, peneliti menggunakan reliabilitas interrater yang dihitung dengan menggunakan SPSS dengan melihat nilai koordinat Kappa yang menentukan reliabilitas pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada penulisan bahasa Inggris siswa. Hal ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa pre-task meningkatkan penulisan bahasa Inggris siswa dalam aspek konten. Oleh karena itu, guru harus mengoptimalkan penggunaan pre-task sebelum memulai tugas yang sebenarnya sehingga siswa dapat mempersiapkan diri lebih banyak dan meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka dalam menyusun tulisan.This research aims to investigate the difference on students writing achievement between those who were taught using pre-task planning and online planning.This research was conducted quantitative. It involved experimental and control classes of the eleventh graders of SMK Kosgoro Sribhawono East Lampung. The data were collected through a writing test. The validity of the writing test focused more on the construct validity in which the researcher developed and based the writing. For the reliability, the researcher used interrater reliability which was calculated using SPSS by seeing the cooficient of Kappa value which determined the reliability of pretest and posttest. The result showed that there is a significant difference on the students English writing. It also revealed that pre-task planning increases the students English writing in content aspect. Therefore, the teacher should optimize the use of pre-task planning before beginning the actual task so that the students are able to prepare more and increase their confidence in composing writing.Keywords: Online planning, pre-task planning, writing ability.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa setelah diajarkan melalui permainan crossword puzzle dan scrabble dan megetahui tehnik permainan mana yang lebih memotivasi siswa. Sasaran penelitian ini mencakup dua kelas di SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung, yaitu kelas VIII F dan kelas VIII H. Penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan SPSS 22.0. Hasil menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan namun tidak signifikan. Hal itu terlihat dari hasil uji T-test bahwa T-hitungT-tabel (-1.7622.66) pada derajat kebebasan (df)= 55 dengan signifikansi 0.01. Rata-rata nilai pre-tes pada kelas crossword puzzle adalah 61.50, sedangkan rata-rata nilai post-test 84.18. Sebaliknya, rata-rata nilai pre-tes pada kelas Scrabble adalah 48.24, sedangkan rata-rata nilai post-test 75.62. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa permainan scrabble sama unggulnya dengan permainan crossword puzzle untuk membantu menguasai kosakata.Abstract: The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is significant difference of students’ vocabulary mastery taught through crossword puzzle and scrabble game and to know which technique is better for students. The subject of this research is two classes at SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung, it is class VIII F and VIII H. This research was analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The result showed that there is no significant different. It could be seen from the increase of students’ mean score from pre-test to post-test and in T-test result, it is showed that t-countt-table (-1.7622.66) at df=55 with significant level 0.01. The mean score of pre-test in crossword puzzle class is 61.50 while the mean score of post-test is 84.18. On the contrary, the mean score of pre-test in scrabble class is 48.24 while the mean post-test score is 75.62. Therefore, it can be concluded that scrabble and crossword puzzle game is equally good to help students to master the vocabulary.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan perbedaan kemampuan membaca siswa setelah diajar dengan teknik wh-question. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai instrumen pengambilan data. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa kelas sebelas SMAN 2 Tulang Bawang Udik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara statistik terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan membaca siswa setelah siswa diajarkan menggunakan teknik wh-question. Berdasarkan hasil ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik wh-question adalah teknik yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa. The aim of this study was to find out whether the use of the wh-question technique improved the students’ reading ability. This study was a quantitative study. Reading tests were used as the instrument to elicit the data. The subjects of this research were 60 second grade students of SMAN 2 Tulang Bawang Udik. The result showed the students who were taught through wh-question technique had better achievement and the difference was statistically significant. This suggests that wh-question technique facilitates the students to improve their reading ability. Keywords: wh-question technique, reading test, narrative text

Abstract

One of the strategies which is considered applicable to teach students’ reading comprehension is scanning technique. Therefore, this research was intended to find out whether there was a significant difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement in identifying the specific information after being taught through scanning technique. This research was conducted at SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung. The population of this research was the second year students. The students were given three treatments. As the instrument, the researcher used objective reading test, that is, multiple choice test. Repeated Measures t-test was used to analyze the data and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 15.0 at the level significant of .05. Based on the calculation of t-test, the result shows that there is significant increase on students’ reading comprehension after being taught through scanning technique (p.05, p=.000), with the increase of mean point in pretest and posttest was 21.17.  Keywords: reading comprehension, scanning technique, specific information.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari perbedaan hasil belajar kosa-kata siswa-siswi yang diajarkan Crossword Puzzle dan Pictionary Game. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelas yaitu kelas VIII D dan VIII F di SMPN 1 Kalirejo. Data didapat melalui pemerolehan ujian awal dan ujian akhir ujian kosa-kata. Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa siswa-siswi yang diajarkan menggunakan Crossword Puzzle mendapatkan nilai yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa-siswi yang diajarkan menggunakan Pictionary Game dengan statistik level signifikannya 0,03. Hal ini berarti Crossword Puzzle secara signifikan lebih baik daripada Pictionary Game dalam meningkatkan pemerolehan kosa kata siswa.This research was intended to find out the difference of students' vocabulary achievement between the students taught through Pictionary Game and those given Crossword Puzzle. The subjects of this research were class VIII D and VIII F of SMPN 1 Kalirejo. The data were collected using the pretest and the post-test of vocabulary tests. The result showed that the students who were taught using Crossword Puzzle had the higher scores than the students who were taught by Pictionary Game with the significant level (p) 0,03. Crossword Puzzle improved the students' vocabulary better than Pictionary Game did.Keywords: pictionary game, crossword puzzle, vocabulary
