Abstract

This study aims to examine the practice of symbolic violence implied in the symbols of fashion and cosmetic brands among college students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to reveal the experiences and views of the subjects in depth. Data were obtained from five students at various universities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, who were selected as research subjects. Primary data sources were in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation of participants, while secondary data sources were obtained from relevant literature reviews. Data analysis techniques were carried out thematically by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that symbolic violence occurs when students from lower-middle socioeconomic groups feel compelled to follow the exclusive brand taste standards set by upper socioeconomic groups. This causes the desire to own certain products even though they are economically unaffordable. Symbolic violence also appears through negative labeling of individuals who do not follow dominant fashion standards, such as the use of the term "jamet". It is evident that symbolic violence in fashion and cosmetic brands occurs subtly through symbolic representation mechanisms that are reproduced in everyday life, creating social inequality and psychological pressure on students.

Abstract

Sleep is a natural human phenomenon that plays an important role in maintaining physical and psychological balance. The Qur'an discusses sleep in several verses (including QS. Al-An'am: 60, Az-Zumar: 42, Al-Furqan: 47, and Ar-Rum: 23), describing it as a divine system (sunnatullah) and a manifestation of Allah's mercy, not merely a biological need. This study aims to examine the essence of sleep from the perspective of the Qur'an based on M. Quraish Shihab's Tafsir Al-Mishbah and analyze its relevance to contemporary health psychology. The research uses a qualitative method with a thematic (maudhu‘i) approach, through the collection of Qur’anic verses related to sleep, analysis of their semantic structure and context, and their relationship with psychological theories about rest, stress regulation, and emotional recovery. The results show that Tafsir Al-Mishbah interprets sleep as a sign of Allah's power and human dependence, representing a temporary withdrawal of consciousness or “little death” (al-mawt al-sughra). Sleep also functions as a means of spiritual renewal that brings tranquility (sukūn) and psychological recovery. These findings are consistent with the views of health psychology and neuroscience regarding the restorative role of sleep. This study confirms the Qur'an's view of physical and spiritual harmony and offers an interdisciplinary framework that connects Qur'anic interpretation with modern mental health discourse.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the strategies used by lecturers in forming the religious character of students in the tertiary environment. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), data was obtained through systematic searches in academic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and ProQuest, relevant articles were filtered and analyzed to identify patterns of strategies implemented by lecturers. The research results show that interactive approaches, the use of case studies, extracurricular activities, and personal coaching are some of the strategies commonly used by lecturers. Although these strategies have proven effective in shaping students' religious character, challenges such as religious plurality among students and the influence of popular culture highlight the need to develop more inclusive and adaptive strategies. The implications of this research are to provide practical guidance to universities and lecturers in increasing the effectiveness of religious learning and provide a basis for developing approaches that are more responsive to the religious and spiritual needs of students in higher education.
