Abstract

Adolescents aged 10-24 years old are susceptible group to premarital sex, drugs abuse, and HIV/AIDS infection. Papua is the largest contributor to AIDS/HIV number in Indonesia. To overcome such problem, Rutgers WPF formed Dunia Remajaku Seru!(DAKU!), an intervention program towards adolescent reproductive health at senior high school level. This study aimed to determine psychosocial determinants of risky sexual behavior among senior high school students in Merauke District through cross-sectional approach. Samples were 1,364 second grade students that got DAKU!Program and matching process was conducted on schools that did not get DAKU!Program. Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate (chi square test) and multivariate (logistic regression test). Results showed that variables significantly related to adolescent risky sexual behavior were peer group with negative behavior, self-efficacy, parents’control, exposure to DAKU!Program and sex. Meanwhile, based on multivariate analysis, peer group with negative behavior (RP = 4.7 CI = 2.8 - 7.7) was the most dominant factor influencing risky sexual behavior.

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of health literacy interventions, such as health education, health promotion, and digital media use, in improving knowledge, attitudes, and contraceptive use among women of reproductive age (WRA) in Indonesia, as well as to compare outcomes in rural and urban areas. Methods: This systematic review, guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework, analyzed data from 2019 to 2024 on health literacy interventions related to contraception. Literature was sourced from four databases: Lens.org, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Results: Out of 10,451 articles identified (Lens.org: n=1,598; PubMed: n=84; Scopus: n=121; Google Scholar: n=8,648), 154 articles were assessed for eligibility, and 22 were included in the final review. Common interventions included leaflets, videos, mobile apps, and counseling, which effectively improved WRA’s knowledge, attitudes, and contraceptive behaviors. Technology-based methods were more effective in urban areas, while community-based approaches were more effective in rural settings. Conclusion: Health literacy interventions improve contraceptive outcomes among WRA in Indonesia. Their effectiveness varies by the type of intervention and the geographic context. A combined approach of community empowerment and technology, tailored to local settings, is key to enhancing contraceptive health literacy.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the patient safety environment developed by Izza Hospital, Karawang, using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) instrument developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The research method used a quantitative descriptive design with a survey approach, involving 326 respondents from medical and non-medical personnel who were directly related to patient care. The sampling technique was accidental sampling, and data were analyzed using univariate analysis for the frequency distribution of the 12 dimensions of patient safety culture. The findings showed that most respondents were nurses (62.9%) with 1-5 years of service (38%) and working hours >40 hours per week (64%). The assessment of the work unit showed the majority in the “good” category (56%), while the most patient safety reports were 1-2 reports per year (35%). Most indicators of patient safety culture showed positive responses, such as teamwork (97%) and open communication (66-81%). However, there were challenges in indicators such as response to errors and staff courage to ask critical questions. In conclusion, the patient safety culture at Izza Hospital is in the “good” category but needs specific improvements in certain dimensions to support more optimal patient safety. These results provide insights for the hospital in formulating strategies for continuous improvement of patient safety culture.
