Abstract

Menopause is a natural phase in a woman's life that is often accompanied by various symptoms, one of the most common being hot flashes—a sudden sensation of heat followed by excessive sweating. These symptoms can significantly impact women's quality of life. Due to concerns over the side effects of hormone therapy, the use of herbal treatments such as Salvia officinalis (sage) is being considered as an alternative remedy. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of sage (Salvia officinalis) in reducing hot flash symptoms in menopausal women. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 60 menopausal women experiencing hot flashes, selected through purposive sampling at Puskesmas Plaju Palembang. The intervention involved administering a sage infusion (100 grams in 200 ml of water), consumed once daily for seven days. Hot flash symptoms were measured before and after the intervention using a hot flash instrument. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the administration of sage infusion was significantly effective in reducing hot flash symptoms in menopausal women, indicating that sage can serve as a safe and natural non-hormonal therapy alternative.

Abstract

Coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for babies in the world is 41%, while the WHO target for exclusive breastfeeding in the world is 70% (Global Breast Feeding Collective, Unicef ??and WHO, 2018). Not all postpartum mothers immediately express breast milk. To stimulate the release of the hormones prolactin and oxytocin in Indonesia, there are many types of methods that can be used as an option for mothers who experience problems during breastfeeding, one of which is the oketani massage technique. This study aims to determine the effect of providing breast care using the oketani massage technique on breast milk production in post partum mothers at RSIA Az-Zahra Palembang. This research method uses a pre-experimental research method with a one group pretest—post test design. The sample in this study was 71 post partum mothers on days 1-3 using the purposive sampling method. The research was conducted from 1 - 31 January 2025 at RSIA Az-Zahra Palembang. The results of this research showed that based on the Wilcoxon test, it was found to be 0.001 < 0.05, it could be concluded that there was a significant effect of breast care using the oketani massage technique on the smoothness of breastfeeding in postpartum mothers at RSIA Az-Zahra Palembang. It is hoped that this research will be useful for post partum mothers and can be applied at home so that the mother's breast milk production runs smoothly and the baby's nutrition is met.

Abstract

Most menopausal women experience an increase in cholesterol levels due to a decrease in body function, one of which is a decrease in hormones. This study aims to determine the effect of administering Sweitenia Mahagoni L on reducing cholesterol in menopausal women. This research method uses a pre-experimental research method with a one group pretest—post test design. The sample in this study was menstruating mothers with cholesterol levels >200 mg/dl. The sample was 32 samples using the purposive sampling method. The research was conducted on January 9 - March 9 2025 at the Sekip Palembang Community Health Center. The results of this study showed that based on the Wilcoxon test, it was 0.001 < 0.05, so it could be concluded that there was a significant effect of giving Sweitenia Mahagoni L on reducing cholesterol levels in menopausal women. It is hoped that this research will be useful for menopausal mothers with hypercholerolemia and can be consumed at home as an alternative non-pharmacological treatment.
