Abstract

Abstract

Background: Academic performance in this context is conceptualized holistically, encompassing the integration of cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and physical achievements. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory and Social Cognitive Theory, the study posits that physical activity interest and social skills serve as predictors of both mental toughness and academic outcomes. Objectives: This study examines the mediating role of mental toughness in the relationship between physical activity interest, social skills, and academic performance among university students enrolled in physical education programs. Methods: A quantitative approach was employed, involving the administration of structured questionnaires to 235 active students. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with a Partial Least Squares approach to assess construct validity and the relationships among variables. Results: The results reveal that interest in physical activity and social skills has a significant influence on both mental toughness and academic performance. However, mental toughness did not serve as a substantial mediator within the proposed model. Conclusions: These findings underscore the critical direct roles of affective and social factors in predicting academic success in physical education contexts. Theoretically, this study clarifies the functional position of mental toughness, while practically, it promotes the development of instructional strategies that enhance intrinsic motivation and collaborative skills within physical education curricula.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the correlation between the level of stigma and efforts to normalize stigma by religious leaders who become perpetrators of sexual violence. The rise of sexual violence cases that has been difficult to reveal, because the perpetrators use the “mask religion” so as to trick the wider community. The object of this research is the phenomenon of sexual violence commited by unscrupulous religious leaders. This research uses a quantitative approach of cross-sectional survey type, which uses bivariate analysis. The study respondents totalled 100 people, who live arround religious areas such as Islamic boarding schools, mosques, churches, monasteries, and other religious environments. Based on the Pearson correlation test, the result is 0.001, which means that there is a significant correlation between the high level of stigma given by the community to individual religious leaders who become perpetrators of sexual violence that the high level of stigma also reduces the successful normalization efforts carried out by the perpetrators. The perpetrators of sexual violence failed to use “religious masks”, so they still received a negative stigma and this stigma was a form of social sanction against the perpetrators. Efforts to normalize stigma were not successful, as well as a form of negation of the attitude of victim blaming, namely blaming the victim, as has happened in many cases. Thus sexual violence perpetrated by evil religious leaders is a form of moral degradation.

Abstract

Penalty kicks in soccer become crucial moments that determine the outcome of the match. This research aims to analyze penalty kicks in terms of dominant foot and direction. Data were collected through video analysis of soccer players' penalty kicks in the 2022 FIFA World Cup matches via the official FIFA website. This study involved 5 videos of penalty shootout matches with a total of 41 kicks performed by professional players. Based on the analysis results, it was found that in the penalty shootout of the 2022 World Cup, 80.49% of players took the kick using their dominant right foot, and 19.51% used their dominant left foot. Regarding the target direction chosen by players, it was observed that players with dominant right foot more often aimed the ball towards the bottom left, while players with dominant left foot more frequently aimed towards the bottom middle. When considering the success rate of kicks resulting in goals, kicks with dominant right foot had a higher success rate when aimed towards the top middle and bottom middle, whereas kicks with dominant left foot had a higher success rate when aimed towards the bottom middle and bottom left. The research results indicate that dominant foot and target direction are contributing factors to the success of penalty kicks.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to investigate anaerobic capacity for pencak silat athletes in combat category based on fatigue index. Methodology: The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative. Fifteen athletes from sport education undergraduate program were recruited in this study. Their background was all from combat category. They were part of varsity team enrolled in university training center and preparing for provincial college sport competition. The data for anaerobic capacity were collected using Runningbased Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST) with validity level of 0.897 and reliability level of 0.919. Results: The results suggested that in terms of anaerobic capacity level, there are 4 athletes (26.67%) categorized as good, 8 athletes (53.33%) categorized as average, and 3 athletes (20.00%) categorized as poor. Based on the measurement being administered, majority of samples on this study attributed to average level of anaerobic capacity. Applications/Originality/Value: Given that pencak silat is sport in which dominant with anaerobic movement, coaches should prioritize anaerobic training to improve anaerobic capacity which may lead to success in combat.
