Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Hypertension is a public health problem increasingly found among young adults, including college students. This study aims to analyze the relationship between ABO blood type, knowledge level, behavior, and hypertension status in young adults on campus. This study used an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all active students in the Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program at the Poltekkes Kemenkes Banjarmasin, with a sample size of 99 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. The researchers collected data through online questionnaires and blood pressure measurements. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (80.8%), had normal blood pressure (67.7%), had good knowledge (69.7%), and had good behavior (58.6%). Statistical test results showed that gender (p=0.533), ABO blood type (p=0.916), and behavior (p=0.231) were not significantly associated with hypertension status. Conversely, knowledge level was significantly associated with hypertension status (p=0.044). This study concluded that knowledge level was associated with hypertension status, while ABO blood type and behavior showed no significant association. These findings highlight the importance of improving health literacy as part of hypertension prevention efforts in young adults.

Abstract

Nagara beans (Vigna unguiculata L.) (NB) and three-spot gourami (Trichopodus trichopterus) (TS) can be used as blended flour, namely “Kanasawa” blended flour (KBF).  The KBF is developed into complementary food products, such as crackers, namely “Kanasawa Crackers”, to prevent stunting.  This study aimed to investigate the sensory quality, proximate and amino acids profile, Calcium and Phosphorus levels of “Kanasawa Crackers” from KBF.  This study is an experimental research that used a Complete Random Design with five formulas of proportion between KBF and mocaf flour, namely: C1 (0:100), C2 (25:75), C3 (50:50), C4 (75:25), C5 (100:0).  The best crackers formula was selected using de Garmo analysis.   The most preferred cracker product is C2.  The best Kanasawa crackers formula consisted of 7.81% water, 3.58% protein, 23.68% fat, 4.90% ash, 2.25% crude fibre, 52.09% carbohydrate, 18 types of amino acid, 0.52% Calcium, and 0.56% Phosphorus. “Kanasawa Crackers” with a KBF-to-mocaf flour ratio of 25:75 are suitable as a complementary food to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Dermatophytosis is a superficial fungal infection that remains a public health problem, particularly in tropical regions, with Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes as the primary causes. Increasing limitations in the use of synthetic antifungals have encouraged the development of natural products as alternative therapies, including Cinnamomum verum stem bark essential oil. This study aimed to analyse the antifungal activity of C. verum stem bark essential oil against T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes using the disc diffusion method. The study used a true experimental design with a posttest-only control group design. The essential oil was obtained through steam-water distillation with a yield of 0.25% (v/w). Tests against T. rubrum used concentrations of 1%, 2%, 5%, and 10%, while tests against T. mentagrophytes used concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Ketoconazole 2% was used as a positive control and dimethyl sulfoxide as a negative control. The inhibition zone diameter was measured after incubation and analysed using One-Way ANOVA and Post Hoc tests. The results showed that the essential oil inhibited the growth of both fungal species at all concentrations tested. The inhibition zone diameter against T. rubrum increased from 21.7 mm to 54.1 mm, while against T. mentagrophytes it increased from 33.6 mm to 48.2 mm. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the concentrations of both species (p<0.001). It was concluded that C. verum bark essential oil exhibited in vitro antifungal activity against both T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes, with the inhibitory activity generally increasing with increasing concentrations. These findings demonstrate the potential of C. verum essential oil as a candidate for a natural antifungal agent based on local resources. Therefore, further research on the characterisation of active compounds, determination of MIC/MFC values, development of topical formulations, and in vivo testing and clinical trials are needed to support its use in dermatophytosis therapy.
