Syntax is the study about the pattern of the language and mastery of syntax plays a crucial role in understanding grammatically correct English. This research aims to investigate the common errors made by students when constructing tree diagrams for phrases and sentences. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method. There were eight students involved in this research who took the syntax class from the English Education Department at Musamus University. Data were collected through written tests in which students were asked to construct tree diagrams for noun phrases, verb phrases, prepositional phrases, and sentences. The result showed that students got difficulty in constructing tree diagram for sentence level and prepositional phrase level. The findings show varying levels of student performance. For phrase level analysis, 100% of students correctly constructed the tree diagram for a noun phrase, and 87.5% succeeded with the verb phrase. However, only 37.5% accurately analyzed the prepositional phrase, indicating significant difficulty with this type. At the sentence level, accuracy dropped further: 75% of students made errors in constructing tree diagrams for more complex sentences such as "The beautiful girl cares of her cat" and "The smart students in the library are smiling gaily", while 87.5% made errors on a simpler sentence, "I have one sister". These results suggest that while students generally grasp phrase structures, they struggle with full sentence constructions and hierarchical syntactic patterns. The study highlights the need for more focused instruction and practice in sentence-level syntax and tree diagram construction to improve students’ analytical skills and grammatical proficiency.

The purpose of this community service is to improve basic computer skills based on the Microsoft Office application for students of SMK Negeri 3 Merauke. This community service method used training with material presentation techniques and questions and answers. The training participants were 34 students of class X Multimedia Department. There were 2 (two) activities carried out, namely: the preparation of a Microsoft office training manual and a questionnaire response to training participants as well as the implementation of basic computer training activities online. The instruments used are response questionnaires and activity documentation. The results of this community service activity indicate that overall each indicator of the response of basic computer training participants is in the 'good' and 'very good' categories. The average percentage of responses is 98.23 which is included in the 'very good' category.

The aims of this community service is to improve teachersâ€™ professional competence through training for writing scientific article and classroom action research. The method used was training method with online and offline form. This training was done on September until November 2021. The target was the teachers of Senior High School 2 Merauke province Papua. There were some steps of this community service namely observation, giving material, and monitoring to know the progress of the program. After that training was done, the participants were give the questionnaires that consisted of ten statements. Based on the result of questionnaires, the teachers of Senior High School 2 Merauke gave positive responses namely the responses on very good, good, and neutral category. The result showed that the training can help the teachers in doing classroom action research and scientific research, improving the motivation in writing, helping the job, and improving the professional competency of the teacher.

This service activity aims to improve the digital literacy skills of the teachers in SMP YPK Merauke through training in making e-books using the SIGIL application and interactive HOTs questions using Socrative. Implementing this service used training and mentoring based on partner needs. The instrument for evaluating this activity used a questionnaire consisting of 12 statements and was analyzed descriptively. The results of this activity showed that the teachers of SMP YPK Merauke created an interactive e-book using the SIGIL application, which contained not only pictures and text but also video and audio that could make it easier for students to understand the material and increase students' interest in learning. In addition, teachers at SMP YPK Merauke could compile interactive HOTs questions using Socrative, which consisted of questions in the form of multiple choices, true-false, and short answers. They could apply the questions in socrative in the teaching and learning process.

This community service program aims to enhance students' understanding of sanitation practices and develop literacy and critical thinking skills based on higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) through the Smart and Healthy Children program conducted in the 3T (frontier, outermost, and least developed) regions of South Papua. The activities consisted of five stages: preparation, optimization of sanitation and literacy facilities, teacher training, student habituation, and evaluation. The evaluation instruments used interviews and student learning outcome tests which were then analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of this community service program showed a significant improvement in studentsâ€™ understanding across four aspects: the importance of sanitation, sanitation procedures, reading comprehension, and reading analysis. Moreover, positive behavioral changes were observed among students, including regular habits of bathing, hand washing, brushing teeth, using latrines, and trimming nails, all of which were monitored by teachers. The use of an outdoor learning garden also contributed to a more dynamic learning environment. Overall, the program not only successfully enhanced studentsâ€™ health knowledge but also fostered enthusiasm and engagement in daily literacy activities, demonstrating its effectiveness in developing both sanitation awareness and literacy skills among students in the 3T regions.

English for Specific Purposes means learning English based on studentsâ€™ needs. This research focuses on developmental research that aims to develop English for Specific Purposes book for Chemistry Education Department students of Musamus University and also to know the effectiveness of the book on the student's ability in English. The ADDIE Research and Development (R&D) model was used in this research. This ESP book was developed based on the problem and the need of the students in Chemistry Education at Musamus University. This developmental research consisted of five stages including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The first was an analysis which means the researcher found out the need of the students before developing the book. The second was designed that prepared the content of the book. The third is a developmental stage that developed the content of the book which consisted of 12 chapters and doing the validation. The fourth is the implementation of the book in the teaching and learning process. The last was doing a trial of the book to know its effectiveness. The students of chemistry education were given the pre-test and post-test based on the content of the book. The pre-test was given before implementing the book while the post-test was given after implementing the book. The results of the ESP book that has been made indicate the following points: 1) the book based on the student's need, 2.) the content of the book was based on learning objectives and the experts gave good comments on the book content, 3.) The mean score for the pretest was 75.77, while the mean score for the post-test was 80.54. The result of this research can be concluded that English for Chemistry Students book was worthy and could improve the English ability of Chemistry Education Department students at Musamus University. Thus, this book can be a reference in the teaching and learning process.

This research aims to develop an English textbook based on local wisdom to improve the studentsâ€™ literacy. This research used a research and development (R&D) method with an ADDIE model, which consists of five stages, namely, analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects were the MA Almunawwaroh Merauke students for XI class. The research used tests, interviews, and questionnaires to collect the data. The data analysis technique was descriptive statistical analysis. The results of the research showed that the development of English books was in the good or feasible category. As the result of validation, based on assessment from the English lecturer, the content aspect before revision was 31 while after revision was 47, the presentation aspect before revision was 43, and after revision was 67, based language aspect where the stage before revision was 18 and after revision was 31, on the graphical aspect where the stage before revision was 28 and the stage after revision was 38. Based on the assessment of the English teacher, for the content aspect before revision, the score was 29 while the stage after the revision was 45, the presentation aspect where before the revision is 44, and after the revision was 66, on the language aspect where the stage before the revision was 19 and after the revision was 29, on the graphic aspect where the stage before the revision was 25 and the stage after the revision was 33. Furthermore, in the assessment of the principal based on content before revision the results of score is 28 while the stage after revision was 42, in the aspect of presentation before revision the overall score was 36, and after revision gets a score of 65, in the aspect of language where the stage before revision was 18 and after revision 29, in the aspect of graphics where the stage before revision was worth 23 and the stage after revision was worth 32. Before the book was used by all the students. The researchers did a trial by giving tests to students. Furthermore, the trial was conducted on 20 students. The students were given tests to know the studentsâ€™ literacy after implementing the book. Furthermore, the trial was conducted on 20 students at MA Al-Munawwaroh by giving questions in the book that had been prepared, while the average value of the test results was 76.95.

The Community Service aims to develop Matara Village through legal awareness literacy assistance and character building. This activity has been carried out by involving the society of Matara village. It was done to overcome the partner issues. The method used was through socialization and practice which consists of several stages; preparation stage, drafting stage, mentoring stage, and evaluation stage. The preparation stage consists of licensing and observation to unite the perception of the service team with partners regarding the objectives and technical implementation of activities. The second stage is the preparation of a draft module that will be used during the implementation of activities related to legal literacy and character education. The module is related to basic language learning associated with local wisdom. The module is presented in a language that is easier to understand and according to the needs of partners. The third stage of this activity is the mentoring stage which is carried out in 2 stages, namely focusing on language learning in increasing legal literacy and socializing the importance of character education based on local wisdom. The last stage is the evaluation by looking at the output of the sustainability of the results of the activity without assistance. This activity received a positive response from the society of Matara Village.

Penguasaan bahasa Inggris telah menjadi kebutuhan mendasar dalam era globalisasi, termasuk didaerah-daerah terpencil Indonesia. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untukmeningkatkan kemampuan guru sekolah dasar di Kampung Koa, Distrik Animha, Kabupaten Meraukedalam mengajarkan kosa kata bahasa Inggris melalui penggunaan lagu anak. Metode pelatihan yangdigunakan meliputi workshop, demonstrasi, dan pendampingan praktik mengajar. Hasil pelatihanmenunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam menggunakanlagu sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Para guru mampu mengintegrasikan lagu anakberbahasa Inggris ke dalam pembelajaran dan menciptakan suasana belajar yang lebihmenyenangkan. Kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif dalam pengembangan metode pembelajaranbahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar di wilayah tersebut.
