Abstract

Abstract

This research intends to scrutinize the quality of service program at the Physics Education Laboratory, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh by employing a double CIPP-SERVQUAL integrated framework in which it merged adopted frameworks to source out comprehensive points from both managerial and user views. A mixed method design including questionnaires, observations, interviews and document analysis of students, lecturers, laboratory assistants and laboratory coordinators was used. The assessment included the Context, Input, Process and Product of the CIPP model combined with six SERVQUAL dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy as well as information systems. The outcomes showed that the Context, Process and Product modules were “Very Good,” reflecting internal consistency between laboratory services and academic demand, rational operation management and impacts on student competences, particularly in comprehensive application and experimental manipulation. The Input element was “Good” indicating constraints due to manual documentation and resource upgrade. The originality of this research is to combine the CIPP and SERVQUAL models in order to simultaneously measure than the Internal management efficiency, the perceived quality of service from user point of view in a physics education laboratory. The results suggest that improving digital documentation systems, preventive maintenance and technical response is an important strategy to increase the quality level of laboratory services, allowing support for sustainable learning in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of background color variation on the light intensityreceived by a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensor. This study uses an experimentalmethod with a light source in the form of an LED lamp directed at white, black, red, green, blue, and yellow backgrounds. The sensor readings were obtained throughArduino Uno with the measurement results displayed in the form of Analog to DigitalConverter (ADC) values and converted into lux units. Data collection was carried outby repeating several times for each background color, then analyzed descriptively todetermine the relationship between color and sensor response. The results showed thatthe average ADC value was 1023, while the average light intensity was 139 lux, indicating that background color variation did not cause significant differences. Thesefindings suggest that other factors, such as LED light stability, distance betweencomponents, and the LDR's sensitivity limitations to certain wavelengths, had a moredominant influence on the results. The conclusion of this study is that background colorvariation does not significantly affect the LDR sensor response under the experimentalconditions used. This study contributes to physics education through an understandingof instrument limitations and the presentation of simple experiments that link opticaltheory with practical measurement results.

Abstract

The assessment in physics education plays a crucial role in understanding how well students grasp core concepts and apply their knowledge in real-life situations. This research explores various assessment models used in physics education to enhance student learning outcomes. The primary objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of different assessment models, including diagnostic, formative, summative, and competency-based evaluations. Literature review method was employed to gather and synthesize relevant studies from academic databases such as Google Scholar and Science Direct. The results reveal that formative assessment is particularly effective in improving student engagement and learning by providing continuous feedback. Moreover, competency-based assessments offer a more comprehensive evaluation by considering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects of student learning. Authentic assessments that simulate real-world tasks are also gaining traction for their ability to bridge theoretical knowledge and practical application. This study concludes by recommending a combination of these assessment models for optimal student development in physics education.

Abstract

Mastery of science process skills (SPS) is a key foundation in physics education at the university level for building conceptual understanding and scientific thinking skills. Although crucial, first-year students generally have very heterogeneous practical skills due to their diverse educational backgrounds. This study aims to investigate the correlation between SPS and the learning outcomes of the 2024 cohort of students in the Basic Physics 1 course in the Physics Education Study Program at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. This study used a quantitative correlational design with purposive sampling techniques on 20 students. Data were collected through the SPS test instrument and documentation of final course grades. Data analysis was performed using Spearman's Rho correlation test, considering that the data were not normally distributed based on the Shapiro Wilk test results. The results showed a significant relationship between KPS and learning outcomes with a correlation coefficient of 0.431 (ρ=0.029) which is classified as moderately strong. An interesting finding in this study highlights the very high gap in SPS mastery among new students, which is inversely proportional to their relatively homogeneous academic achievements. This phenomenon indicates an imbalance between psychomotor competencies in practical work and students' cognitive achievements. Based on these findings, standardizing and strengthening practice-based learning at the beginning of the lecture period is a strategic step needed to minimize the gap in student abilities and improve the quality of physics education comprehensively.
