Abstract

The learning process at SMAN 1 Kluet Utara and SMAN 1 Kluet Selatan, does not appear to have developed critical thinking skills of students, this is because learning does not provide opportunities for students to identify problems and conclude new ideas or a observational act. The process of learning biology in schools does not encourage students to think critically. The research objective was to analyze the improvement of critical thinking skills by using the discovery learning model combined with constructivism-based modulesin on the excretory system concept. The method used was a quasi-experimental, pretest posttest design non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study were 156 students of class 11th MIPA who came from two schools, while the sample was 104 taken by purposive sampling. The instrument used was a reasoned multiple choice question accompanied by a rubric. The data analysis used was n-gain and independent sample t-test. The results showed that the critical thinking skills obtained was 0.78, with an increase in class critical thinking skills including the high category. This shows that there are differences in the critical thinking skills of students between the experimental class and the control class on excretory system concept in class 11thSMAN 1 Kluet Utara and SMAN 1 Kluet Selatan. Thus, the implementation of discovery learning model combined with constructivism-based modulescan improve students' critical thinking skills on excretory system concept.

Abstract

Inventory of postpartum care plants is a collection of types of plants used by the community in healing postpartum care. This study aims to find out the types, parts, and ways of processing plants used in postpartum care as well as conservation efforts made to plants that have the potential as postpartum care in Singkil District, Aceh Singkil Regency. The research was conducted in July until August 2020, and data collected using a qualitative descriptive method with structural observations and interviews. The data source taken was 50 respondents consisting of 10 physicians, 10 midwives, and 30 mothers who had given birth. Data analysis is done descriptively using a qualitative approach. The results of the study obtained 31 species of plants used for postpartum care, parts of plants used to consist of fruit, seeds, stems, flowers, leaves, tubers, and rhizomes, the processing was carried out by boiling and grinding.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the completeness of laboratory facilities and infrastructures, the implementation of the laboratorial practice, to measure the causal factors of laboratorial practice to run, and to be alert of laboratory infrastructure completeness and the implementation of the biology laboratorial practice. Data were collected by observation and questionnaires. The sample in this study were 11 high schools in Banda Aceh, with respondents 11 biology teachers who are responsible for teaching class XI and 99 students of class XI IPA. The data were analyzed using the proportion formula and the product moment answer formula. The study resulted in the findings that: 1) the proportion of completeness of facilities and infrastructure was 66.77% (good). 2) the proportion of laboratorial ptactice implementation was 62.81% (sufficiently implemented). 3) factors of laboratorial procurement, including, inadequate support, inadequate materials, insufficient time allocation, lack of readiness of laboratory assistants in preparing tools and materials, absence of laboratory assistants in several sample schools, and some biology / laboratory assistants in The sample school had never been trained to guide students or to use laboratory equipment. 4) the correlation between the laboratory facilities completeness and infrastructure with laboratorial practice implementation was 0.27 (low).

Abstract

The purpose of this Community Service activity is to provide a training in the preparation of questions in the category of the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The specific target to be achieved from this activity is the high school teachers that join in the Biology MGMP group of Aceh Barat District are able to compile HOTs questions category which have been considered difficult. The implementation of these activity is carried out for Biology teachers who are joining in the Group of Biology Subject Teachers Conference (MGMP) at high school level. The MGMP was chosen because it is a form of activity forum in order to address the lack of mastery in preparing HOTS-based questions. MGMP is not only a deliberation institution, but can be used as a scientific forum for the teachers and resource person and also as a peer supervision institution. The target for 2021 activities proposed through this proposal is held for Biology MGMP at Aceh Barat District high school. Mentoring materials are limited to the preparation of HOTS questions.
