Abstract

It is necessary to strengthen the resilience of farmer households by increasing their adaptability and mitigating difficult conditions or risks of business that make unsustainable. The sources of the potential economic vulnerability of farmer households are the initial information for basic dealing with business risks. The ability to identify potential sources of vulnerability as an economic risk will stimulate efforts to increase productivity, income, and rural economic growth. This research focuses on exploring the potential sources of the economic vulnerability of coffee farmers' households in the upstream Lampung watershed. The survey research conducted in coffee production centers in three sub-districts coveragethe upstream Way Besai watershed, West Lampung. It was Air Hitam, Way Tenong, and Sumber Jaya sub-districts with a total of 165 coffee farmers as respondents. The data analysis method used a non-parametric statistical approach. The results of the study indicate that the source of the potential economic vulnerability of farmers in the upstream watershed is closely related to the ownership and area of land assets. Land assets are the main source of income for farming households and a source of household expenditure allocation for both food and non-food, including for savings and investment purposes. These important factors become important entry points in efforts to build resilient farmer household resilience. Resilience is the basic social capital in achieving sustainable production.

Abstract

The price of agricultural products usually fluctuates cause of seasonal harvesting, bulky, voluminous, and the distance of the production centre to consumers.  This activity was conducted to build an initiative of the farmer association (Gapoktan) to self-governing over sub-terminal agribusiness (STA).  Extention and technical assistance were approached to solve their problem. Based on the analysis performed that STA has an important role in solving the weakness in the market.  STA is a power to strengthen the Gapoktan in facing market restrictions. The success of the establishment of STA in the production centre depends on the managerial ability of the STA management board.  They must push hard to build synergy between production and the market network.  After following the extension, member of the farmer association had been increased their knowledge about the requirement of STA establishment and STA management.  Technical assistance is delivered separately.  Gapoktan Sumber Katon initiated the self-governing STA focussed on horticulture production link with the market.  Besides Gapoktan Srikandi established the self-governing STA focussed on rice production. Development activities for pioneering Agribusiness Sub Terminals at Gapoktan in Kab. Pringsewu resulted in the establishment of a self-supporting STA in the centre of farming production.            Keywords: agriculture; farmer group; Gapoktan; self-governing; terminal-market.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of income, the use of production factors for organic rice production, and the level of organic rice farming scale in Pringsewu Regency. This research was conducted from December 2021 to May 2022. Production factors of land area, seeds, manure, labor, and POC have a simultaneous effect on organic rice production with a percentage of production variation of 97.7%. The organic rice production process in Pringsewu Regency is at an increasing level of business (increasing return to scale), meaning that if an addition is made to the use of production factors, it will produce additional production with a larger proportion.

Abstract

Shallot farming in Pringsewu Regency, Indonesia, is a profitable business with an average income of IDR 298 million per hectare. However, the productivity is still low, at 15 tons/ha compared to the potential of 20 tons/ha. This research analyzes the cost structure, production, income, and income of shallot farming in Pringsewu Regency. The research results show that the total cost is IDR 115 million per hectare, while the average income is IDR 182 million per hectare. The feasibility analysis shows that shallot farming is profitable with an R/C ratio of 2.6 and a B/C ratio of 1. To improve the performance of shallot cultivation in Pringsewu and Pagelaran Districts, important suggestions involve providing proactive mentoring and advice from the Food Crops Agriculture Service, facilitated by PPL officers. Furthermore, farmers should explore the adoption of advanced shallot farming techniques to increase income. Additionally, it is recommended to extend the duration of shallot cultivation, supported by favorable returns on investment, as indicated by Internal Rate of Return (IRR) values of 97% and 93% for two planting periods in Pagelaran District, exceeding the bank interest rate of 12%. In summary, increasing productivity can further increase the profitability of shallot farming in Pringsewu Regency
