The primary focus of this research is to analyze the character development of Karang and Agha from a psychological perspective, particularly regarding how life experiences shape their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Employing a qualitative method with a descriptive-interpretative approach, this study presents in-depth descriptions and interpretations of the novel's text. The data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques using the novel as the primary data source. The findings reveal several important points. First, the character of Karang is portrayed as a representation of the ego aspect, characterized by patience, sincerity, and responsibility amid life's pressures. Second, the emergence of Agha represents the manifestation of the shadow self, embodying trauma, painful past experiences, and repressed emotions. Third, there are significant factors influencing the personality changes of the main character, namely family and environmental factors. The injustice and hardships experienced by the family serve as the primary triggers for the emergence of the character’s darker side and the drastic transformation of their personality. This study demonstrates that life experiences and internal conflicts play a crucial role in shaping the characters' decisions and strategies for survival. Abstract

Teenage slang is a dynamic linguistic variation that evolves alongside the intensity of social interaction in urban areas. In Bekasi City, teenage slang shows a strong tendency to absorb elements of the local Betawi Ora dialect, which then undergo adaptations in form and meaning to meet the speakers' communication needs. This study aims to describe the contextual meaning and social functions of Betawi Ora-based slang vocabulary used by teenagers in Bekasi City. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with a sociolinguistic approach. Data were collected through participatory observation (SLC) and non-participatory observation (SBLC) involving 11 teenagers aged 18–22 years through three observation sessions conducted in public social spaces. The results identified 15 key vocabularies, including bagen, danta, ilok, sabi, and eug, whose meanings are highly dependent on the speech situation and the relationship between speakers. Findings indicate that these vocabularies serve multidimensional social functions: as group identity markers, means of emotional expression, solidarity-strengthening strategies, and conflict control mechanisms. This study confirms that local dialect elements continue to play a vital role in shaping the linguistic identity of the younger generation amidst urban social dynamics.

Abstract

Initial observations conducted on students of class X AKL-1 SMK Mudisa showed that there were difficulties faced by students in learning the intertext of hikayat into short stories. This was seen from the low student scores and supported by teacher validation which stated that students still had difficulty in developing stories, so that learning media that was close to students was needed, namely the Wattpad application. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of using the Wattpad application in the process of learning the intertext of hikayat into short stories which was also based on non-cognitive differentiation. This study applied an experimental method with a pre-experimental research type with one group pre-test post-test design. The subjects of this study were 21 students of class 10 AKL-2 SMK Mudisa. The data that can be summarized in the writing published on the Wattpad application, both initial test data and final test data. The data that has been obtained will then be analyzed using statistics according to the inferential statistical process, namely one sample test and paired samples statistics test through the SPSS application version 16.0 windows. This research obtained the following results: (1) the initial test conducted on students in the process of learning the intertext of fairy tales into short stories was in the less category with an average of 55.14; (2) the results of the final test of intertext of fairy tales into short stories were at an average of 88.40 after non-cognitive differentiation-based learning and the use of the Wattpad application; (3) a clear difference in the initial test results with a score of 55.14 increasing in the final test with a score of 88.40, so that the increase with an average of 33.76 proves that the use of the Wattpad application based on non-cognitive differentiation is effective in learning the intertext of fairy tales into short stories.

Abstract

Teachers and students’ interactions play a crucial role in achieving learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aims to find out how discourse strategies are used in a primary inclusive school. Through the participation of a primary inclusive school’s teacher, a corpus of recorded data was constructed. The discourse strategies were then identified and categorized based on the theory of Dornyei and Scott. The result of the study revealed that, based on corpus-analysis, the teacher used only the More Communicative Potential strategy. Within this category, the most frequently used strategy was a comprehension check. This was primarily applied because the teacher’s main purpose was to deliver the lesson clearly and coherently while ensuring students understood the material. This study implied that it is essential for teachers to be aware of and apply appropriate discourse strategies to support effective classroom interaction.
