Abstract

This research examines the profound epistemological critique and semiotic analysis of Islamic thought by Mohammed Arkoun, focusing on his challenge to traditional paradigms within Islamic scholarship. Arkoun argues that Islamic reason has historically been confined by dogmatic interpretations, which has limited its evolution in the context of modern challenges. Employing a historical-critical methodology and a semiotic approach, Arkoun seeks to uncover layers of meaning that have been obscured by traditionalist readings and to demonstrate the need for a more critical and dynamic interpretation of Islamic texts. Arkoun’s critique explores the historical, linguistic, and cultural contexts that shape Islamic thought, advocating for an approach that acknowledges the influence of these factors on religious interpretation. His analysis reveals how Islamic thought, if unchallenged and unchanged, risks stagnation in a rapidly evolving world. Through a detailed examination of Quranic discourse and the application of modern critical theories, Arkoun proposes a deconstruction of the 'thinkable' and challenges the 'unthinkable' within Islamic thought. This study emphasizes the importance of revisiting the epistemological foundations of Islamic knowledge to foster a more inclusive, reflective, and adaptive intellectual tradition. Arkoun's work provides valuable insights into the potential for Islamic thought to engage more profoundly with contemporary issues, urging a reform that embraces critical inquiry and the exploration of diverse interpretative possibilities.

Abstract

This paper is based on the results of a study entitled “Study of the Influence of Paramadina Life Value Lecture (NHP) on Student Character and Behavior”. The study was driven by concerns about rising intolerance and radicalism as well as counterproductive tensions between Islam and nationality among young people and students. This condition of course has the potential to threaten the disintegration of people and the nation in general. From the results of descriptive statistical analysis shows that there is a strong correlation and significant influence between NHP lecture learning and the perception and attitude of students towards Islamic and Indonesian values. This research program is designed by conducting training and workshops for a number of students who have strategic and important in the formation of understanding and moderate religious attitudes. Dissemination of the idea of religious moderation is carried out, among others, through training and development of Islamic values that are one breath with national values (Indonesianness) and socialization of moderate religious understanding is one of the long-term deradicalization strategies at the upstream level.

Abstract

Diatom analysis is one of the most reliable indicators for confirming death due to drowning. Diatoms are microscopic algae that can enter the respiratory tract during water aspiration and provide ecological evidence linking the victim to the drowning site. This study aimed to analyze the presence of diatom species and taxonomic similarity between water samples and the internal organs of experimentally drowned white rats (Rattus norvegicus) to validate their use as a forensic model. Experimental drowning was performed using water of the Batang Arau River, West Sumatra in the February 2024 to January 2025. In this study, we were found 56 species of diatoms in the waters, while 31 were found in white rats' internal organs. The highest diversity found in the esophagus (31 species) and lungs (19 species). No diatoms were detected in the heart, liver, or kidneys. The distribution pattern, limited to the respiratory system, indicated early drowning aspiration with no systemic circulation. The typical species is a diatom species only found in water and in the internal organs of white rats in specific locations. Achnanthes adnata, Cocconeis pellucida, Cocconeis pseudomarginata, Eunotia bilunaris, and Gomphonema pumilum are typical species at Location I. Amphora bigibba and Amphora bioculata are typical species at Location IV. At the same time, Navicula viridula is the typical species at Location VI. These findings validate the white rat as an effective experimental model for drowning research and demonstrate that species-specific diatom fingerprints can aid forensic investigators in determining both the vitality of drowning and the probable crime scene.

Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative neurological disorder that significantly affects patients’ cognitive functions and social lives. It is a leading form of dementia, characterized by the progressive death of brain cells. One widely adopted diagnostic approach involves magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate brain structures. Recent advances in machine learning have enabled automated image analysis, with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) commonly used for image feature extraction and classification. However, CNNs face a major limitation in maintaining consistency during image segmentation, which results in reduced classification accuracy. This issue arises from CNNs’ limited ability to preserve local pixel-level consistency during feature extraction. To address this, we propose integrating a Markov Random Field (MRF)-based layer into the CNN architecture, which has been shown to enhance segmentation consistency. This study utilizes publicly available MRI datasets of Alzheimer’s patients and employs a k-fold cross-validation scheme for evaluation. The results show that the CNN-MRF model improves classification accuracy to 63%, compared to 61% with the standard CNN. Furthermore, the loss value is reduced from 0.80 to 0.74. Although the improvement in accuracy is incremental, a paired t-test confirms that the difference is statistically significant (p < 0.05). This method has proven effective in enhancing the reliability of image-based diagnostic systems for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract

The Sapawarga-Jabar Super Apps application is a digital innovation that aims to make it easier for the people of West Java to access public services, particularly motor vehicle tax payments. However, its implementation has not been entirely optimal as there are still obstacles such as frequent errors during transactions, e-SKKP download disruptions, and servers that do not respond even when the network is stable. Additionally, users are still required to visit the Samsat office because the online delivery service for vehicle registration certificates is not yet available. This study aims to assess user satisfaction with the application, using the DeLone & McLean model, which covers four main variables, namely system quality, information quality, service quality, and user satisfaction. It uses a quantitative approach and Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The results of the study show that information quality and service quality have a significant effect on user satisfaction, while system quality does not have a significant effect on user satisfaction. Meanwhile, based on the questionnaire results, the system is considered ‘successful’ with a success rate of 76.4%, although there are still 23.6% aspects that need improvement.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship and compatibility between the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) N-value and soil classification based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). The SPT is commonly used to determine in-situ soil density and consistency, while the USCS provides a comprehensive classification of soil types through grain size distribution and Atterberg Limits parameters. Data were collected from six different depth intervals, consisting of N-SPT values, grain size analysis (gravel, sand, silt, clay), and Atterberg Limits (LL, PL, IP). The results indicate that all soil samples are classified as high-plasticity clay (CH) according to the USCS, characterized by Liquid Limit (LL) values ranging from 70.45% to 86.83% and Plasticity Index (PI) values from 38.91 to 49.26. The N-SPT values range from 2 to 21, representing soil conditions from very soft to medium dense. Despite the variation in N-SPT values, the soil classification remained consistently within the CH group, dominated by fine-grained materials with high plasticity. These findings suggest that the N-SPT values describe relative soil strength but are not sufficiently sensitive to reflect variations in fine-grained soil characteristics, which are primarily controlled by plasticity and mineral composition. The study concludes that the direct correlation between N-SPT values and USCS classifications is not linear for high-plasticity cohesive soils. Therefore, the interpretation of soil conditions in CH-type soils requires an integrated approach that combines field testing (SPT) with laboratory analyses (grain size and Atterberg Limits). This highlights the importance of a comprehensive geotechnical evaluation to achieve a more accurate understanding of soil behavior. Keywords:N-SPT, USCS, Atterberg Limits, grain size analysis, CH soil, soil classification.

Abstract

Religious and ethnic diversity in multicultural urban contexts often produces complex social dynamics, particularly in the formation of social stratification. This study examines these dynamics in Gang Luna Tolerance Village in Bandung City by explicitly applying Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical framework—habitus, forms of capital, and social fields to analyse how religion and ethnicity structure everyday interactions and status hierarchies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, residents from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds, and local policymakers, as well as participant observation and document analysis. The findings reveal that religious habitus and the distribution of social and cultural capital play a significant role in shaping stratification patterns, while the arena of intergroup interaction in Tolerance Village encourages the negotiation of status positions. Although hierarchical differences exist, practices of religious tolerance embedded in community habitus strengthen harmonious relations and facilitate social mobility by expanding access to social capital. This study contributes to the sociology of religion by demonstrating how Bourdieu’s concepts explain the interplay between diversity and stratification in urban multicultural settings and offers insights for social policy development aimed at fostering inclusive, tolerant, and socially mobile communities in Indonesia.
