Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) is a progressive and irreversible decrease in kidney function. One risk factor that affects the progression of CRF is dyslipidemia due to abnormalities of lipid metabolisms. Dyslipidemia is characterized by the increase level of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and a decrease in HDL cholesterol level. eGFR is a parameter for assessing the excretion function, by calculating the amount of filtrate produced by the renal glomerulus. This study aims to determine the relationship between serum triglyceride levels with eGFR in patient suffering from CRF at Jemursari Islamic Hospital Surabaya. This type of research is descriptive experimental with cross–sectional design. The study population was the patients with CRF. The primary data in this study was the results of examination of serum triglyceride levels in patients with CRF. The secondary data (serum creatinine levels, body weight, age, and sex) was obtained from medical records of CRF patients in February 2019. As much as 12% of patients were in the 40–50 years old category, 36% of patients were 51–60 years old, 44% of patients were 61–70 years old, and 8% of patients were 71–80 years old. 72% of patients were male. The mean triglyceride level was 146.68 mg/dL and the average eGFR was 19.86 mL/min/1.73m2. The relationships between triglyceride levels and eGFR was carried out by the Spearman–rho test where r value was –0.442 and value was 0.027. It was concluded that there was a significant negative correlation between serum triglyceride levels and eGFR in patients with CRF.

Jombang Regency was the 10th most prevalent smoker in East Java in 2018 and experienced an increase in the prevalence of smokers by 0.1% from 2013. The high number of smokers raises a concern. Smoking may lead to an increase of hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol levels, where the increase in these two parameters is closely related to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, as a cause of cardiovascular disease. Physical activity of each individual is something that needs to be known because it affects the levels of hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol. This study aims to analyze the correlation between hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol in active smokers with physical activity. This study used an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This research was conducted in March-April 2022 with a total sample of 32 active smokers who work as pedicab drivers at Pondok Pesantren 'DU', Jombang Regency. The hs-CRP examination was carried out using the Latex Turbidimetric Assay method, while the LDL cholesterol examination was using the Homogeneous Enzymatic Colorimetric Assay method. Based on the statistical analysis of the Spearman correlation, the results obtained p>0.05 (p = 0.687, r = 0.074), which means that there is no correlation between levels of hs-CRP and LDL cholesterol in active smokers with physical activity.

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease (PTM) that is chronic and can weaken the immune system so that sufferers are 3 times more likely to suffer from pulmonary TB. In chronic infection there is continuous inflammation which is characterized by the presence of neutrophils themselves and will be followed by low lymphocyte values due to immune system pathways that do not work perfectly. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and the incidence of Tuberculosis in Diabetes Mellitus patients at the Jorongan Health Center, Probolinggo Regency. This research is a correlative analytic study with a cross sectional approach. A total of 30 samples of diabetes mellitus patients at the Jorongan Health Center from January to April 2023. The NLR examination method was with a hematology analyzer and tuberculosis patients were examined using Molecular Rapid Test. The statistical test uses Spearman's nonparametric test. The results showed that there was a correlation between NLR values and the incidence of tuberculosis in diabetes mellitus patients at the Jorongan Health Center, p = 0.003 and r = 0.521. Further research needs to be carried out involving larger samples and other laboratory tests related to the immune system in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Typhoid fever is an infection that affects the digestive system. It spreads through contaminated food and drinks due to the Salmonella bacteria. One way to develop immunity against Salmonella typhi is by using outer membrane protein (OMP), which activates the cellular immune system. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of using ID Broth to identify OMP Salmonella typhi. The study was conducted experimentally at the Institute of Tropical Disease from April 2023 to May 2023. For the study, we obtained three samples of Salmonella typhi isolated from East Java, and each sample was replicated three times. We isolated the bacteria and extracted the OMP to measure its levels and perform electrophoresis with SDS-PAGE. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) is a standard protein analysis method. To address sample loading challenges due to stacking gel transparency, an acidic dye was added to improve visibility without affecting gel performance. In this study nutrient agar from MacConkey medium and ID broth were used as variables. We cultured Salmonella typhi and extracted OMP using the sonication technique. We measured protein levels through the nanodrop method. Salmonella typhi from ID broth produced higher protein levels than Salmonella typhi cultured from MacConkey Medium. It affected the identification of OMP using SDS-PAGE. Lower protein levels lead to fewer protein molecules in the same band zone, causing reduced visibility and readability of the protein bands. The ID broth stabilizes the bacteria's condition before being grown on nutrient agar media.

Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is a condition of thyroid hormone deficiency that occurs at birth. The TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) test is crucial for diagnosing hypothyroidism. CH is known to cause prolonged unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between TSH and indirect bilirubin levels in neonates suspected of having jaundice. Methods: This is a non-experimental, retrospective study conducted at Lombok Dua Dua Lontar Mother and Child Hospital in Surabaya. The study involved data collection on neonates aged 2–7 days suspected of jaundice, whose TSH and indirect bilirubin levels were measured between November 2022 to April 2024. Results: Among 100 neonates, 62% were aged 2-4 days, while 38% were aged 5-7 days. The majority were male (56%), with female comprising 44%. Of the 100 neonates, only 1 (1%) had borderline TSH levels, while 99% had normal TSH levels. Hyperbilirubinemia was observed in 94% of the neonates, while 6% had normal indirect bilirubin levels. Statistical analysis using the Spearman correlation showed no significant link between TSH and indirect bilirubin levels (p = 0.802). Conclusions: While this study did not find a clear connection between TSH and indirect bilirubin levels in neonates suspected of having jaundice, one case of borderline TSH was identified. This neonate required referral to pediatric endocrinology, as untreated congenital hypothyroidism can lead to mental retardation. Despite limited research linking TSH and bilirubin levels in jaundiced neonates, routine screening for congenital hypothyroidism using TSH testing should be reconsidered. Future studies could benefit from focusing on specific causes of neonatal jaundice to help narrow down research questions in this area.
