Abstract

Kebudayaan merupakan aset daerah yang berpotensial dikembangkan dalam berbagai sektor pemerintahan. Khusus dalam bidang pariwisata, kebudayaan adalah produk yang sangat baik dikembangkan untuk menarik minat wisatawan. Oleh karena itu, pengkajian potensi daerah sebagai tujuan wisata budaya menjadi dilakukan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan potensi budaya yang dimiliki Kecamatan Wundulako sehingga dapat dijadikan sebagai daerah tujuan wisata budaya di Kabupaten Kolaka dan mejelaskan peran serta pemerintah dan masyarakat dalam mendukung Kecamatan Wundulako sebagai daerah tujuan wisata budaya di Kabupaten Kolaka. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan dua cara yakni wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumen. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa Tradisi dan budaya yang ada meliputi upacara ritual mosehe wonua sebagai upaya yang untuk mensucikan kampung/negeri agar terhindar malapetaka dan wabah penyakit, upacara ritual mesosambakai bagi bayi yang baru lahir agar anak yang dilahirkan itu terhindar dari bahaya sekaligus didoakan agar mudah rezekinya, akikah (mosere owuu), tradisi ritual perkawinan, hingga tradisi pengobatan tari lulo sangia. Pada sisi yang lain peran strategis pemerintah adalah dengan tersedianya sarana prasarana pendukung pariwisata. Selain itu, terjadwal secara baik pentas budaya dalam bentuk even budaya sebagai penggerak sektor pariwisata di Kecamatan Wundulako Kabupaten Kolaka.

Abstract

This study explains about how hata poda/ advices and umpasa/ parables or hopes as part of local wisdom that mostly found in Batak Toba traditional ceremonies work to building the characters of receivers by the presence of Ulos. Hata poda and umpasa are not hastily given and it should concern about the social position of the giver (Ulos) based on Dalihan na Tolu. Dalihan na Tolu is a philosophy of life hold by Batak Toba society consisting of Hula-hula (the highest), dongan sabutuha, and boru (the lowest). Hata poda and umpasa assumed as an instrument/ media of communication containing of advices and hopes/prayers delivered by the highest rank (parents or elders) to their descendant. This study uses textual analytical description to answer all problems which may emerge. The terms of hata poda and umpasa found in Batak Toba traditional ceremonies possess positive values to generating the characters and behaviors of the receivers which mostly dominated by youngsters. Forms of Batak Toba traditional ceremonies are the wedding, birth ceremony, death ceremony, baptism and others.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate and describe woman’s language in the main character's The Devil Wears Prada movie script. The research question is “what are the features of woman’s language described in The Devil Wears Prada movie script by David Frankel”?. The objective of this research is to describe ten types of woman’s language features used by the main characters in The Devil Wears Prada. The Source of this data is taken from a movie script. The method used in this study was qualitative descriptive to analyze the data of Lakoff’s theory. The data were taken from conversations uttered by the main characters of “The Devil Wears Prada” movie script. The techniques of data analysis were presented, describing, interpreting, analyzing, and concluding the data. Based on the discussion, the researcher found several conclusions after analyzing this movie script. The researcher found ten types of woman’s language used by the main characters in The Devil Wears Prada movie script there are lexical hedges fillers (3 data), tag questions (2 data), rising intonation on declarative (2 data), Empty Adjective (2 data), Avoidance of strong swearwords (3 data), Emphatic stress (2 data), super-polite form (2 data), precise color term (1 data), and intensifiers (2 data), and hypercorrect grammar (1 data) of the 20 data that are related to woman’s language found in this movie script. This proves that women’s language exists in the conversations between the main characters in this movie script.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of figurative language and the most dominant types of figurative language that used in short stories God Sees the Truth but Waits, Esarhaddon, King of Assyria, and Too Dear by Leo Tolstoy. The methodology of this study used descriptive qualitative method because the data are in form of words and utterance rather than the number. The source of data in this study is three short stories of Leo Tolstoy that taken from storage.cloversites.com. Some techniques in analyzing the data consist of classifying the data that need to be analyzed described the data and interpreting the data based on Leech’s categories and the last made the conclusion to answer the research question. This study used the theory of figurative language based on Geoffrey Leech’s categories. Based on the findings, there are four types of figurative language that was found in the short stories, they are hyperbole (5 data), metaphor (2 data), Litotes (2 data), and Simile (10 data). The most dominant figurative language used is a simile for 10 data.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze Lady Gaga’s song lyrics in terms of pragmatic study. The problem concerns what are the types of entailment in those song lyrics. The objective of this research is to identify the types of entailment in seven song lyrics of Lady Gaga. This research used a qualitative descriptive method. Therefore, the data in this research are in the form of utterances conveyed by Lady Gaga. The source of the data is seven song lyrics of Lady Gaga. The data were collected by identifying, reading, coding, and classifying the data and then analyzed by presenting, describing, interpreting, and concluding the data. This research showed that among four types of entailment, the data involved all the types of entailment in Lady Gaga’s song lyrics. One-way entailment (5 times), Two-way entailment (4 times) Negative entailment (2 times), and Metaphorical entailment (9 times). Thus, those types of entailment are found in seven song lyrics of Lady Gaga.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the language style used in Marie Claire Magazine advertisements. The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe the kinds of language style and how they are used in the advertisements, and also (2) to find out the dominant language style used in Marie Claire Magazine. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research was beauty advertisements from Marie Claire Magazine that issued in November and December 2017. The data were taken from the text of those printed advertisements. The data were analyzed by using a descriptive qualitative method. It gave a sufficient description of the factual data of the phenomena and provided its logical and rational interpretation based on relevant theories. The research findings showed that there were seven types of language styles that commonly appear in advertisement found in Marie Claire Magazine beauty advertisement based on William Well’s theory: simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, assonance, ellipsis, and hyperbole. Hyperbole was the most used language style in a beauty advertisement Marie Claire Magazine. The application of hyperbole did not only make advertisements attractive and informative but also made them persuasive. Hyperbole also appears because the language of advertisement might be aiming to persuade the consumers to buy the products.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to know whether the students made errors or not and to explain the mostly the students made errors in translation lexical collocation of their written test. The kinds of errors in this study were divided into five categories; inversion, addition, omission, modification, and deviation. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method to describe students’ errors. The data which was taken from the written test focused on translation lexical collocation consist of five-point which is adjective+ Noun, Noun+ Noun, Verb+ Noun, Noun+ Verb, and Verb+ adverb with five lists of sentences. The subject of this study is the students of the English literature faculty of humanities Universitas Halu Oleo, Academic Year 2017/2018, and took the Translation subject. The researcher took one class that consisted of 18 students. The findings showed errors that there were 80 errors made by students. Based on the result, it shows that the researcher found the students made errors of Inversion of meaning (50 errors), Addition of meaning (12 errors), Omission of meaning (6 errors), Deviation of meaning (1 error), and Modification of meaning (11 error). The conclusion of this study was the English literature students faculty of humanities Universitas Halu Oleo, still made all kinds of errors in translation lexical translation; inversion, addition, omission, modification, and deviation.

Abstract

This research is a pragmatic approach study of an analysis of illocutionary in ice age collision Course Movie Script. The objectives of this researcher are to find out the types of illocutionary acts are performed by all the characters' utterances, and to find out dominantly of types of illocutionary acts are used by all the character's utterances. The researcher used the content analysis qualitative method to describe and analyze the selected illocutionary acts which are watching movies and then classify them according to George Yule’s concept types of illocutionary acts. The researcher used content analysis which focuses on classifying the types of illocutionary acts and the dominantly of types of illocutionary acts in the ice age collision course movie carried out by all the characters. The researcher found that are the characters use all types of illocutionary acts. First representatives there are {Stating (3), Suggesting (1), Complaining (1)}. Second is directives, they are {Asking (3), Commanding (4), Forbidding (2), Demanding (2)}. Third, is commissions, they are {Promising (1)}, Forth is expressive, they are {Congratulating (2), Thanking (1) Welcoming (1), Apologizing (1)}, and the last is a declaration, they are {Declare (1), Naming (1)} Based on the data above, it reveals that all characters in their utterances dominantly used the illocutionary acts of Directive with the total of 11 data.

Abstract

This study is intended to analyze the form of Framing of Covid-19 vaccine new on CNN website based on Discourse Analysis perspective theory of Framing Analysis by Zhondang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki. The objective of this research is “To describe how are the forms of framing of covid 19 vaccine news on CNN website”. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used Zhondang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki Framing Models to analyze the data. The source of the data in this research was taken from News on CNN Website. The data was collected through reading intensively, identifying and selecting, classifying, describing, and interpreting the data to get a complete conclusion of Framing Covid-19 Vaccine News on CNN Website by Zhondang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki theory. The researcher analyzes six pieces of data or news from the CNN website. The result showed there are framing the researcher found based on four models of framing Pan & Kosicki namely: Syntactical Structure, Script Structure, Thematical Structure and Rhetorical Structure in six data or news from CNN website.

Abstract

This research is a pragmatic approach study of an analysis of Non-Observance the Maxim in Knives Out Movie Script. The objectives of this researcher are to find out the types of Non-Observance a Maim in Movie scripts and to find out the dominant types of Non-Observance used by all the character’s utterances. The researcher used the content analysis qualitative method to describe and analyze the selected of Non-Observance which are watching movies and then classifies them according to Paul Grice’s concept types of Non-Observance. The researcher used content analysis which focuses on classifying the types of Non-Observance and the dominant types of Non-Observance in Knives Out movie carried out by all the characters. The researcher found that the characters use all types of Non-Observance. The first flounting there are Quality (3), Quantity (8), Relation (1) Manner (-). Second is Violation, they are Quality (4), Quantity (3), Relation (1), and Manner (-). Third, is Opting Out, they are {Quality (-) Quantity (1) Relation (1) Manner (-), Forth is Infringing, they are Linguistics Performance (-), Culture Impairment (-) Cognitive Impairment (1), and the last is Suspending (1) Based on the data above, it reveals that all characters in their utterances dominantly used the Non-Observance of Flounting with 13 data.
