Abstract

Meru Betiri National Park (MBNP) is a conservation area located in East Java that has a diversity of flora and fauna. However, the information about entirety diversity in this area is still uncleared, due to limited scientific research, one of which is amphibians. So, the aim of this study is to explore the diversity of amphibian species (order Anura) in Bandealit Resort, MBNP. Data collection was carried out on January 6-8, 2023 in four representative habitat types i.e., terrestrial, arboreal, semi-aquatic, and aquatic. The data collection method was using Visual Encounter Surveys (VES) on each observation line with a length of 300m. The ecological data collected included the species names of amphibians (Anura) and the number of individuals of each species. Furthermore, data analysis was using species composition and species diversity using the Shannon-Wiener index (H'). Based on the results, six species of Anura were found (Fejervarya cancrivora, F. limnocharis, Leptobrachium hasseltii, Kaloula baleata, Hylarana chalconota, and Polypedates leucomystax) belonging to five families (Dicroglossidae, Megophryidae, Microhylidae, Ranidae and Rhacophoridae). Species P. leucomystax was found with the highest number of individuals (eight individuals) and occupied arboreal, terrestrial, and semi-aquatic habitat types. Based on the Shannon-Wiener index, the species diversity value of the order Anura amphibians was obtained in the moderate category (H'=1.47). This shows that the Bandealit Resort in MBNP provides an important habitat for several species of the order Anura amphibians. Furthermore, the results of this study also provide updated data regarding the existence of amphibian species of the order Anura in MBNP, especially Bandealit Resort.

Abstract

The exploration of the butterfly on The University of Jember has been conducted. The objective of this study is to explore the diversity of butterfly on UPT Agrotechno Park The University of Jember. The research has been done during August to September 2020. Sampling was carried out by scanning methods in the fields with sweeping net. The results revealed the existence of 18 genus with four belonging to the families Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae, and Lycaenidae. Moreover 24 species had been identified namely Papilio sp. 1, Papilio sp. 2, Troides sp., Graphium sp., Appias sp., Catopsilia sp., Delias sp. 1, Delias sp. 2, Eurema sp.1, Eurema sp. 2, Leptosia sp., Euthalia sp. 1, Euthlia sp. 2, Dophla sp., Elymnias sp., Euploea sp. 1, Euploea sp. 2, Hypolimnas sp., Junonia sp. 1, Junonia sp 2, Discophora sp., Acraea sp., Zizina sp. dan Lampides sp. Butterflies use plants as host plants and food plants. High host plant diversity is directly proportional to the diversity of butterfly species. The UPT Agrotechnopark Universitas Jember has 1 hectare of land in which there are collections of fruit, vegetable, ornamental, medicinal and food plants. The high diversity of host and forage plants in the UPT Agrotechnopark is a good habitat for butterflies. However, identification to the species taxa are further needed.

Abstract

The Long-Tailed Macaque (LTM) (Macaca fascicularis Raffles, 1821) is a member of the Cercopithecidae which is included in the Vulnerable status. Information on the habitat characteristics of these species is needed to support in-situ conservation efforts. This study aims to determine the habitat characteristics of LTM in Kucur Resort at Alas Purwo National Park (APNP) based on the forest strata occupied by the LTM, Normalizes Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and river distance. The research procedure begins with a preliminary survey to determine the six lines of observation. The data used are primary data (LTM encounter points, forest strata they occupy, and data on tree species where they meet) and secondary data (NDVI variables and river distance). Both data were analyzed using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The results showed that the LTM at Resort Kucur TNAP was found in four different groups. The results of data analysis show that the habitat characteristics of the LTM in Kucur Resort based on the forest strata it occupies are at a tree height level of 0-30 meters (strata E-B) which has branches, canopies, and produces young leaves and fruits. Furthermore, the LTM habitat has vegetation characteristics with medium density and cover which has an NDVI value of 0.3-0.5. This indicates the character of this habitat is used as a place to rest, socialize, and avoid from predators. Based on the distance of the river, the habitat characteristics are the location which is quite far from the river, which is > 300 meters. Based on the data on the habitat characteristics of LTM, it shows that Kucur Resort provides a fairly good habitat for the LTM.
