Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the case method for improving student learning outcomes in the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) subject. This research employs classroom action research. The subjects of this study are 11th-grade students majoring in Mechanical Engineering at State Vocational High School 1 Silaut, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Data collection techniques include observation sheets to assess teacher and student activities, tests to evaluate students’ knowledge, and documentation to support the research. The study results indicate that implementing the case method teaching model effectively improves student learning outcomes because students are engaged and interested in learning. This is evident in the learning outcomes in cycle 1, where 64.29% of students achieved passing grades, with nine passing, while 35.71% did not pass, with five students falling short. In cycle 2, student learning outcomes improved to 78.57%, with 11 students passing, while 21.43% did not pass, with three students not meeting the passing criteria. In conclusion, the case method teaching model effectively enhances student learning outcomes in the SMAW subject.

Abstract

Kurangnya penyesuaian sarana prasarana program keahlian teknik pengelasan di SMKN 2 Payakumbuh merupakan akar dari masalah dalam research ini. Adapun tujuan pada penelitian ini ialah mengetahui besaran dari tingkat kesesuaian prasarana pratikum program keahlian Teknik pengelasan di SMKN 2 Payakumbuh. Jenis penelitian deskriptif ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui metode survey. Adapun penggunaan lembaran observasi sebagai teknik mengumpulkan data, subjek penelitian adalah Kepala Bengkel dari Teknik pengelasan, Ketua Program Studi dari Teknik pengelasan, dan Waka Bidang Sarana dan Prasarana. Objek dari penelitian ini berupa workshop Teknik pengelasan beserta kelengkapan-kelengkapannya, dan Permendikbud No 34 Tahun 2018. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan berupa mendeskripsikan hasil dari observasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah tingkat kesesuaian prasarana pratikum kompetensi keahlian Teknik pengelasan di SMKN 2 Payakumbuh sebesar 77%, yang dalam kategori cukup sesuai. Tingkat kesesuaian perabot pratikum kompetensi keahlian Teknik pengelasan sebesar 73%, yang dalam kategori cukup sesuai. Tingkat kesesuaian peralatan pratikum kompetensi keahlian Teknik pengelasan sebesar 65%, yang dalam kategori cukup sesuai. Tingkat kesesuaian media Pendidikan pratikum kompetensi keahlian Teknik pengelasan sebesar 100%, yang dalam kategori sesuai. Maka dari itu, disimpulkan dari keseluruhan tingkat kesesuaiannya sebesar 83% yang berarti masuk kategori sesuai, yang artinya SMKN 2 Payakumbuh harus melengkapai 17% agar benar-benar memenuhi standar minimal yang ditetapkan SMK terkhususnya kompetensi keahlian Teknik pengelasan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan penerapan model pembelajaran project based learningterhadap hasil belajarmata pelajaran Teknologi Mekanik kelas X Teknik Permesinan semester genap di SMK Negeri 1 Tanjung Raya Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016.Penelitian ini berpusat pada masalah rendahnya hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran gambar teknik dimana salah satu faktor penyebabnya adalah kurang tepatnya pemilihan model pembelajaran oleh guru. Metode ini yaitu penelitian eksperimen.Pengambilan sampel dengan teknik simple random sampling.Kelas kontrol adalah X TM 1 menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung dan kelas eksperimen adalah X TM 2 menggunakan model pembelajaranprojectbased learning. Teknik pengumpulan data dari nilai akhir hasil belajar dianalisis untuk uji homogenitas dan uji hipotesis. Untuk mengetahui kesamaan rata-rata siswa dilakukan pre test nilai semester ganjil diambil sebagai pre test atau test awal. Setelah dilakukan uji homogenitas maka diperoleh hasil rata-rata pre test untuk kelas control mendapatkan hasil nilai rata-rata total sebesar 74 gabungan nilai pengetahuan dan keterampilan, sedangkan untuk kelas eksperimen mendapat hasil nilai rata-rata total sebesar 75 gabungan dari nilai pengetahuan dan keterampilan.Hasil penelitian kelas eksperimenmendapatkan nilai rata-rata 83, sedangkan kelas kontrol mendapatkan nilai rata-rata 78. Hasil perhitungan hipotesis pada taraf signifikan α=0,05 didapatkan thitung> ttabel yaitu (2,92> 1,684), karena thitung besar dari ttabel,maka hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Model pembelajaran project based learningmemberikan peningkatan hasil belajar yang lebih besar yaitu 7,7 % sebanyak 20 siswa memperoleh nilai di atas KKM (>75) dibandingkan dengan model pembelajaran langsung hanya 12 siswa memperoleh nilai di atas KKM (>75). Disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran project based learninglebih baik dibandingkan dengan model pembelajaran langsung.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Video-Assisted Problem Based Instruction (PBI) learning model on students’ learning outcomes in Lathe Machining Engineering by controlling learning motivation variables. The study employed a quasi-experimental method using a Post-test Only Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 50 students divided into an experimental class (25 students) and a control class (25 students) at SMKS Semen Padang. Data collection instruments included learning outcome tests and learning motivation questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The findings demonstrated that the implementation of the video-assisted Problem Based Instruction learning model exerted a statistically significant effect on students’ learning outcomes, as indicated by the ANCOVA results of F(1,47) = 63.145 with a significance value of p < 0.001. The effect size was categorized as large with Partial Eta Squared = 0.573. However, learning motivation as a covariate did not significantly affect learning outcomes with F(1,47) = 0.001 and p = 0.974. Simultaneously, the model used in this research was significant with F(2,47) = 32.851 and p < 0.001 and contributed 58.3% to the variance of learning outcomes (R² = 0.583). Therefore, video-assisted Problem Based Instruction was proven effective in improving students’ learning outcomes in Lathe Machining Engineering

Abstract

The integration of technology in vocational education has become a critical need to support 21st-century skills, especially in practice-based learning such as Basic Mechanical Engineering subjects. One promising innovation is the use of Augmented Reality (AR) media, which enables interactive three-dimensional visualization to help students concretely understand abstract concepts. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of lathe-based AR media in improving student learning outcomes and motivation in Grade X of the Machining Engineering Department at SMK Semen Padang. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects consisted of two classes: the experimental class (using AR media) and the control class (using conventional learning methods). Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests to assess learning outcomes and Likert-scale questionnaires to evaluate learning motivation. The analysis results showed that the use of AR media significantly increased student learning outcomes and motivation compared to traditional methods. Based on hypothesis testing and normalized gain score analysis, the AR media was found to be highly effective in the learning process. In conclusion, lathe-based Augmented Reality media proved to be an effective interactive learning tool that enhances students' academic performance and motivation, while also contributing to the development of innovative media in technical education.

Abstract

Coconut is a plantation commodity that has economic value. The process of stripping coconut grains will leave abundant coconut fiber as waste. Coconut coir waste is partly used by farmer groups in Nagari Sungai Sariak as fuel which causes thick smoke and air pollution so that it becomes a problem and must be resolved. The solution is done by applying a coconut fiber decomposer tool so that creativity and productivity are built. The success of the application of a coconut coir decomposer tool that uses an 8.5 PK diesel motor drive and a 2600 rpm rotation which has a capacity of 51 kg / hour. The effectiveness of the tool reaches 95% in decomposing coconut fiber in a short time. The production of cocofibre is utilized with a touch of advanced processing by the community for guest chair upholstery fillers, foot mat materials and so on. The application of science and technology can have an impact on improving the welfare and empowerment of the community. In addition, building community awareness in Nagari Sungai Sariak has an impact on responsible production within the community.

Abstract

An analysis of the operational parameters of a small-scale electrical generation facility that uses the thermal energy contained in the flue gases from rubbish waste incineration is the goal of this study. To assess this system, the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) thermodynamic system was used. Since the organic fluid has a lower boiling point than water and can be evaporated with less thermal energy, it was chosen as a heat transfer medium instead of water. Aspen Hysys was utilized as a simulation tool, while R11 was used as the working fluid. To maximize the amount of available electrical output power, the plant's operational temperature, working fluid flow rate, and pressure are all maximized. According to the simulation's findings, flue gas may generate electric power between the ranges of 3.12 – 29.71 kW at working pressures between 2.5 and 3.5 bar and working fluid flow rates between 3.600 and 7200 kg/h when the temperature is between 50 and 95 oC. The system reaches a thermal efficiency of about 8.30 at 350 kPa of working fluid pressure.

Abstract

Palm kernel shells have great potential as biomass and renewable energy sources. Its utilization has not been maximized which is only directly burned which causes air pollution. The accumulation of solid waste in the crude palm oil processing industry negatively impacts the environment. The research aims to determine the characteristics and quality of charcoal briquettes with palm kernel shell carbonization. The main findings of this study are the calorific value, water content, volatile matter, ash content, and fixed carbon in palm kernel shell charcoal briquettes with damar binder. The experimental research method was carried out by carbonizing the raw materials of palm kernel shell briquettes, applying various concentrations of damar binder mixtures. The technical parameters of briquette making were 10 MPa pressure, 60 mesh size, and different carbonization temperatures by furnace. The calorific and proximate were empirically measured by using a bomb calorimeter. This research produced palm kernel shell charcoal briquettes with a calorific value of 30.72 MJ/kg at a carbonization temperature of 500oC and concentration of 85%:15%, a moisture content of 5.18%, volatile matter of 32.72%, ash content of 2.81%, and fixed carbon of 57.90%. Palm kernel shell charcoal briquetting technology is potentially a recommended alternative solid fuel. Consequently, developing renewable energy that is environmentally friendly leads to achieve sustainable energy security. By utilizing waste, the negative impacts on the environment can be overcome and energy needs are also resolved.

Abstract

Unggan is one of the villages in Sumpur Kudus Subdistrict, Sijunjung District, known as a coffee-producing region. It has many farmers and produces high-quality coffee, but unfortunately, the community in Unggan still lacks proper coffee waste management. Especially coffee husk waste, which has not been fully utilized by the village community. In fact, this coffee waste can be turned into useful products such as compost fertilizer. Therefore, this community service activity was conducted to enhance the villagers' understanding of the potential of coffee husk waste as an alternative resource, while equipping them with the skills and knowledge to process it into high-quality organic compost. In addition to addressing waste management, the program aims to improve agricultural productivity, enhance the standard of living for the community, and support the environmental conservation movement being promoted by the government and the global community. The method used in this activity is through socialization. Composting coffee husks is a smart way to reduce the negative impact of waste on the environment and improve soil quality sustainably.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Low student participation in the Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM) remains a problem at Universitas Negeri Padang, particularly among students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Data from the 2025 internal PKM selection at UNP, along with historical data from the past three years, indicate that the representation of Mechanical Engineering students has been fluctuating and tends to be low, thus necessitating an examination of internal factors influencing such participation. This study aims to analyze the relationship between students’ interests and talents and their level of participation in PKM. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with a correlational approach. The study was conducted through stages including the determination of the population and sample of students from the Mechanical Engineering Education and Mechanical Engineering (Non-Education) programs of the 2022–2024 cohorts using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling, data collection through questionnaire instruments, and data analysis using Pearson correlation tests. The results show that students’ interest, talent, and participation are in the good to high categories. In addition, a strong and significant positive relationship was found between students’ interest and participation, as well as between talent and participation. The main conclusion of this study is that students’ interests and talents play an important role in increasing the participation of Mechanical Engineering students in PKM activities. ABSTRAK Rendahnya partisipasi mahasiswa dalam Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) masih menjadi permasalahan di Universitas Negeri Padang, khususnya pada mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Mesin. Data seleksi internal PKM UNP tahun 2025 serta data historis tiga tahun terakhir menunjukkan keterwakilan mahasiswa Teknik Mesin yang fluktuatif dan cenderung rendah, sehingga diperlukan kajian terhadap faktor internal yang memengaruhi partisipasi tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara minat dan bakat mahasiswa dengan tingkat partisipasi mereka dalam PKM. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan korelasional. Penelitian dilaksanakan melalui tahapan penentuan populasi dan sampel mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Mesin dan Teknik Mesin (NK) angkatan 2022–2024 menggunakan teknik Proportional Stratified Random Sampling, pengumpulan data melalui instrumen angket, serta analisis data menggunakan uji korelasi Pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa minat, bakat, dan partisipasi mahasiswa berada pada kategori baik hingga tinggi. Selain itu, ditemukan hubungan positif yang kuat dan signifikan antara minat dan partisipasi mahasiswa serta antara bakat dan partisipasi mahasiswa. Simpulan utama penelitian ini adalah bahwa minat dan bakat mahasiswa berperan penting dalam meningkatkan partisipasi mahasiswa Teknik Mesin dalam kegiatan PKM.
