Abstract

Information about the factors that affect nurses' preparedness in hospitals is currently inadequate. Therefore, knowing the predictors that most influence nurse preparedness for disasters is vital. This study aims to determine the predictor factors that affect the disaster preparedness of nurses at the Padang Hospital. A cross-sectional design method has been used in this study. The selection of respondents was carried out using a purposive sampling technique. The criteria were nurses involved as a team for natural and non-natural disasters, COVID-19, in two public hospitals in Padang. The data collection used the Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tools, Self-Regulation Scale, and Practice Environment Scale-Nursing Work Index. Analysis of the data in this study using the Structural Equation Model. The findings showed that knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness significantly affect disaster preparedness with a p-value of 0.001. Overall, these factors explain 87% of the total variance. Optimizing knowledge and skills in disaster management can improve nurses' preparedness in disasters. The hospital can make structured programs and manage disaster mitigation team resources to increase disaster preparedness.

Eighty-eight nurses participated in this study and were selected using purposive sampling techniques between August and November 2023. This study revealed that 54.5% of respondents reported a moderate level of compassion satisfaction related to COVID-19, 68.2% experienced a moderate level of burnout, and 40.9% had a moderate level of secondary traumatic stress.

Abstract

Background: Managing dietary and fluid intake for hemodialysis patients is crucial, but it is also challenging. Non-compliance to diet and fluid intake restriction may increase a patient’s morbidity and mortality. Exploring the experiences of hemodialysis patients who successfully manage those regimens may provide new insight to develop more effective strategies. Purpose: The study aimed to explore the experiences of hemodialysis patients who successfully manage the dietary and fluid intake restrictions.  Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was applied. Semi–structured interviews were conducted with 15 hemodialysis patients purposively recruited from a hemodialysis unit of a public hospital in West Sumatera, Indonesia. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed to describe the phenomenon of hemodialysis patients. The study was reported following the COREQ guidelines. Results: Most   participants in this study are female, aged between  38 – 63 years and length of hemodialysis 4 months – 6 years. The finding of this study was that the essential themes that explained how hemodialysis patients adhere to fluid and dietary restrictions   are 1) strategies for restricting fluid and dietary intake, 2) motivation to restrict fluid and dietary intake, 3) fear of the effects of non-adherence to fluid and dietary restrictions and 4) social support.

Abstract

The median of electronic health literacy was 32,00 categoried as high electronic health literacy and healthy lifestyles was 126,00 categoried as moderate. After conducting Spearman statistical test, it found that there was a positive significant with a moderate relationship between electronic health literacy and the application of healthy lifestyle in respondents (p = 0,000, r = 0,453, r2 = 0,227). It is expected that nursing students can improve their electronic health literacy and healthy lifestyle behaviour by improving their basic knowledge and skills of both.

Data analysis using SmartPLS. Results: From the research results, it was found that self-efficacy had a positive effect on clinical competence (P Value 0.000, T Statistics 14.273, sample mean 0.686). Self-efficacy influences clinical competence by 46.3% (R Square 0.463), the remainder is influenced by other factors not studied. Conclusion: These findings emphasize the importance of self-efficacy in forming and improving students' clinical competence. By having high self-confidence in their abilities, students are more likely to be able to apply their knowledge and skills effectively in clinical practice.
