Abstract

Tourists’ intentions to revisit and recommend a destination are pivotal for ensuring long-term sustainability within the tourism industry. This study investigates the influence of Memorable Tourism Experiences (MTE) on tourists’ behavioural intentions in Padang City, Indonesia. Employing purposive sampling, data were gathered from 213 domestic and international tourists and analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Eight dimensions of MTE are examined: hedonism, novelty, local culture, refreshment, meaningfulness, involvement, knowledge, and adverse feelings. The findings indicate that hedonism exerts a significant positive effect on tourists’ intentions to revisit and recommend the destination. While local culture, refreshment, involvement, knowledge, and adverse feelings demonstrated positive but statistically insignificant effects, novelty and meaningfulness were found to have negative impacts on behavioural intentions. These results suggest that pleasurable experiences are central to fostering destination loyalty, whereas experiences perceived as novel or meaningful may not necessarily translate into revisitation or recommendation. The study offers practical insights for destination managers, emphasising the enhancement of enjoyable and emotionally engaging experiences. Although statistically insignificant, dimensions such as local culture, involvement, and refreshment remain valuable for shaping positive tourist perceptions and should be integrated into experience design strategies.

Abstract

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) is a critical element in ensuring workplace security, especially in high-risk sectors such as automotive repair and maintenance services. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of HSE programs at the PT Pasoka Sumber Karya workshop in Padang, Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through field observation and semi-structured interviews with seven informants, including mechanics and certified HSE experts. The findings reveal that while the company has adopted an HSE management system based on ISO 45001:2018 and designated HSE personnel, implementation remains suboptimal. The primary issues include inconsistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), limited employee training, lack of standardized documentation, and weak enforcement of safety procedures. Between 2020 and 2024, three work-related accidents were recorded—two minor and one moderate—indicating gaps in workplace safety practices. This study contributes to the HSE literature by highlighting the gap between formal HSE policies and actual field practices, even within certified organizations. The research recommends strengthening HSE culture through regular training, performance-based safety enforcement, and accessible emergency response facilities. The results provide practical insights for mid-scale automotive workshops and offer direction for future studies on the effectiveness of HSE systems in the professional service sector.

Abstract

Employee performance remains a critical determinant of organizational success, particularly in operational units of state-owned enterprises where efficiency and precision are essential. Among the many influencing factors, the work environment—both physical and non-physical—has drawn increasing attention as a strategic element of human resource development. This study aims to examine the relationship between work environment and employee performance at PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divisi Regional II Sumatera Barat, focusing on UPT Balai Yasa Padang as a technical operations unit. Using a quantitative approach and a dyadic data collection method, the study involved 32 respondents through saturated sampling. Employees assessed their work environment, while supervisors evaluated employee performance, thereby minimizing common method bias. Data were collected via structured questionnaires adapted from validated instruments and analyzed using Spearman Rank Correlation. The findings reveal a moderate yet statistically significant positive correlation (rs = 0.482, p = 0.005) between the perceived quality of the work environment and employee performance. These results emphasize the importance of ergonomic, communicative, and psychologically safe work conditions in shaping productivity and accountability. Methodologically, the study contributes to organizational research by demonstrating the value of role-based dyadic assessments. The conclusion underscores the need for integrated environmental and supervisory improvements as part of performance management strategies in operationally intensive sectors.
