Abstract

ABSTRACT Verbal bullying experiences can leave psychological distress that carries over into students’ interactions at school. This study aimed to examine changes in the anxiety levels of students who had experienced verbal bullying after participating in group counseling using the cognitive restructuring technique at SMA PGRI 1 Palembang. Ten students who met the research criteria participated in the study using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. Anxiety levels were assessed using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire before the intervention, followed by three group counseling sessions and a subsequent assessment after the entire counseling process had been completed. Changes in scores between the two measurement points were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The mean anxiety score decreased from 132.10 before the intervention to 37.70 afterward. The statistical test yielded a Z value of -2.814 with a significance level of 0.005, which was lower than 0.05, indicating a significant difference in students’ anxiety levels between the initial and final measurements. These findings suggest that group counseling using the cognitive restructuring technique may serve as an alternative approach to helping students manage anxiety associated with experiences of verbal bullying. The findings also broaden the scope of guidance and counseling services aimed at supporting the psychological recovery of bullying victims. Kondisi kecemasan dipotret melalui angket Likert lima poin sebelum layanan diberikan, kemudian peserta mengikuti konseling kelompok selama tiga pertemuan dan kembali menjalani pengukuran setelah seluruh layanan selesai.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has given rise to Generation Alpha, a generation familiar from birth with gadgets, the internet, and a fast-paced and practical environment. This situation requires teachers to adapt to the mindsets, learning styles, and needs of students to ensure learning remains relevant and effective. This study aims to describe the roles, strategies, and challenges of teachers in dealing with Generation Alpha at Public Elementary School 87 Palembang. The research method used was a qualitative case study approach, through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that teachers are required to be more creative, innovative, and technologically literate in delivering material, while simultaneously building student character through interactive and collaborative learning. The main challenge faced by teachers is maintaining a balance between the use of technology and the development of discipline, empathy, and ethics in students. Thus, the role of teachers in the Generation Alpha era is not only as transmitters of knowledge, but also as facilitators, motivators, and role models in building the competencies and character of the future generation.
