Abstract

Online mental health consultation applications have become increasingly prevalent in Indonesia. Teenagers, including college students use these applications to communicate their problems and seek solutions. This study aims to describe final year students' experiences in using these applications. This study evaluates the effectiveness of an online mental health consultation service through the perceptions of 118 users, utilizing a Likert scale across three key dimensions: usefulness, usability, also integration and infrastructure. The findings indicate a generally positive reception of the service.  In the usefulness dimension, the service scored well in terms of meeting advertised expectations, maintaining consistent quality, fostering optimism, providing clarity on mental health issues, and making users feel at ease. The usability dimension highlighted the enjoyable nature of the application and its benefits, though it revealed a need for improvement in accessibility for users with disabilities. The integration and infrastructure dimension reflected positively on the service's intuitive design and user-friendliness, with high scores in data confidentiality, responsiveness of counsellors, clarity of communication, and effectiveness in addressing user issues. Users also expressed a willingness to reuse the service for future mental health needs, indicating its perceived value and reliability.

In general, members of subcultures construct their virtual identities with the aim of disguising their real identities. At the same time, members can construct virtual identities that can reflect on themselves. Over time, members of the subculture adapt the virtual identities they construct taking into account the language and culture that prevails within the subculture of self-deprecating humor on TikTok. The freedom of members of subcultures to self-deprecate is achieved because of the freedom of virtual identity formation allowed by TikTok.

Abstract

The growing elderly population in Indonesia underscores the importance of improving quality of life, particularly in social and psychological aspects. Elderly Schools (Sekolah Lansia) have emerged as a non-formal educational innovation aimed at fostering SMART older adults those who are Healthy, Independent, Active, Productive, and Dignified. This study aims to analyze the communication styles employed at the Purbaya Elderly School in Salatiga in sustaining the potential of elderly students. Using a constructivist qualitative approach, data were collected through observation and interviews with facilitators and elderly participants. The findings indicate that an equalitarian communication style is predominantly applied one that emphasizes equality, openness, and mutual respect. Facilitators position themselves as learning companions rather than authoritative instructors, creating a relaxed, cheerful, and inclusive atmosphere. Polite and familiar language, the use of light humor, and a friendly tone enhance elderly engagement in the classroom. Elderly participants are given space to share experiences, engage in discussions, and remain socially and intellectually active. This equality-based communication style has proven effective in reactivating the potential of older adults, boosting their self-confidence, and challenging stereotypes that portray the elderly as unproductive. Through appropriate communication strategies, elderly schools serve as meaningful spaces for the empowerment of older adults.
