Abstract

This study aims to determine the most suitable initial injection-molding condition for a polypropylene (PP) ID card holder using Autodesk Fusion. Five paired melt-temperature and mold-surface-temperature conditions were evaluated at injection times of 0.5 and 1.0 s, resulting in ten simulation cases. The contribution of this study is a multi-response screening approach before mold fabrication that simultaneously considers fill confidence, injection pressure, quality prediction, cooling time, air traps, weld lines, sink marks, and warpage. All conditions achieved fill-confidence values of 99.67–100%. P4 at 1.0 s produced the highest quality prediction of 85.81% but required 11.87 s of cooling. P2 at 1.0 s was selected as the most balanced condition, with 85.27% quality prediction, 44.98 MPa injection pressure, 4.95 s cooling time, approximately four air-trap areas, 18 weld-line faces, a 0.027 mm sink mark, and 1.736 mm warpage. These simulation results require experimental validation.

Abstract

The automotive manufacturing industry is experiencing significant development and has increasingly complex market demand dynamics. The industrial transformation resulting from these developments has had a significant impact on several automotive manufacturing companies. The value of production efficiency, on-time delivery, and product quality means that companies must have the right strategy in meeting customer demand. Fulfilling customer requests can be realized by opening new adequate facilities. Factory layout and facility design can be a key factor in achieving this goal, especially in the production of front door components model. This research aims to comprehensively detail the design of the factory layout and facilities using the CORELAP method. CORELAP implementation involves collecting supporting data, including Operation Process Chart (OPC), Routing Sheet, Floor Area Requirement, Activity Relationship Chart (ARC), and Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD). The CORELAP method prioritizes spatial relationships to ensure that closely related facilities are strategically located. Design This layout design was created to provide an overview of the strategy for structuring production facilities and their supports to produce an effective and efficient design. Apart from the overview, the analysis carried out can also provide space for stakeholders to be able to utilize the CORELAP strategy in creating new factory layouts and facilities to support improving the company's work performance and meet customer satisfaction. The cost of material handling is calculated to determine the expenses involved in establishing a production facility for car front doors, totaling IDR 763,959. This cost is approximately 10% lower than the current material handling cost, which is IDR 856,888. The results of this research are design proposals that can be utilized or taken into consideration by industrial stakeholders.

Abstract

This study optimizes labor allocation in automotive mold repair using an environmental-integrated Work Sampling method, addressing gaps in conventional time studies that often ignore contextual variables. Data were collected through 210 observations (42 per day over five days) at MWT, Ltd., incorporating environmental factors such as temperature (31°C) and vibration (0.5 m/s²). The analysis included adequacy testing (N’=168.42), uniformity checks, and standard time calculation using a Westinghouse rating factor of +0.24 and a site-specific allowance of 80.5%, validated against historical data. The results indicate a standardized repair time of 53.16 min/mold at 90% productivity, which is approximately 18% higher than values reported in previous studies due to the inclusion of environmental and competency-related factors. Simulation results suggest that implementing a two-worker shift system could potentially reduce backlog risk by 22% and improve lead time performance from 3.2 to 2.6 days. Environmental factors contributed to 30% of allowance time, revealing a previously unquantified impact. This study introduces a hybrid model integrating environmental ergonomics into non-repetitive task analysis, offering a practical framework for improving productivity, resource allocation, and maintenance efficiency in manufacturing environments.

Abstract

Currently, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are required to meet consumer needs by developing innovative products to compete in the market. Based on interviews with customers of rattan handicraft products, baby swings receive the most complaints, particularly regarding safety, comfort, and durability. Therefore, this study focuses on redesigning rattan baby swings to align with customer needs and compete with modern household products. To achieve this, the study identifies the design requirements and technical characteristics desired by customers through data collection, Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Phases 1 and 2, and product design development. The results of Phase 1 QFD indicate that customer design needs encompass economic, ergonomic, durability, aesthetic, and feature aspects. Meanwhile, the results of Phase 2 QFD indicate that the technical characteristics manufacturers must meet include the use of anthropometric data, design modifications, selection of high-quality raw materials, attractive colors, comfortable padding, and materials free from hazardous chemicals. The swing dimensions were determined based on anthropometric data for adults and infants, referencing the 50th percentile of adult hip height and the 95th percentile of infant arm reach and span.

Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the traditional food sector often face operational inefficiencies caused by disorganized workspaces, inefficient layouts, and limited adoption of structured improvement practices. These challenges are particularly evident in small bakeries where manual production processes and spatial constraints disrupt workflow continuity. This study aims to analyze the relationships between operational inefficiencies and Lean Manufacturing interventions using a System Dynamics approach. A qualitative case study was conducted at Toko Roti Gelora, a traditional bakery in Jakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected through direct observation, informal interviews, and document analysis over a ten-week field study. Lean diagnostic tools, including Value Stream Mapping and Fishbone Diagram analysis, were employed to identify sources of operational waste. The findings were synthesized into a Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) to represent feedback structures influencing production efficiency. The results identify four key feedback loops shaping the bakery’s operations: two reinforcing loops representing the escalation of inefficiencies and the development of Lean culture, and two balancing loops representing system stabilization through 5S implementation and layout improvements. These interactions suggest how Lean interventions may contribute to reducing search time, motion waste, waiting time, and excess inventory while supporting the development of workplace discipline over time. The study contributes by integrating Lean Manufacturing and System Dynamics to propose a systemic framework for analyzing operational efficiency in SME production systems.
