Abstract

These research conducted the answer question “was it significantly effective to teach speaking by using Story Completion Technique to the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Lubuklinggau.” The objective of this research was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to teach speaking by using Story Completion Technique to the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Lubuklinggau. The total population on this research was 145 students coming from 5 classes. The sample was taken by cluster random sampling. The sample of this research was VIII.3 as the sample with the total number of sample was 30 students. Based on the matched t-test calculation.It was found out that tobtain is 6.66 and the value or score of ttable is 1.699. the tobtain is higher than ttable (6.66 ≥ 1.699). It was found out the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted . It means that it was significantly effective to teach speaking by using Story Completion Technique to the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Lubuklinggau in academic year of 2018/2019.

Abstract

The problem of this study was “Is iteffective to improve Student reading achievement byusing Pictorial Context to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri Air Satan in the academic year of 2013/2014?” Therefore, the objective of this study was to find out whether or not it was it significant effective to use Pictorial Context In Teaching Reading Comprehension to the eighth grade students of SMP NegeriAir Satan in the academic year of 2013/2014.The writer proposed two hypotheses in this research.They werenull hypotheses (Ho) and alternative hypothesis (Ha).The method applied was pre-experimental with one group pre-test post-test design. The population of this study was all of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri Air Satan in the academic year of 2013/ 2014 which consistedof 147students. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The number of the sample was 35 students. The datawere collected through test that a consisting 20 items of multiple choices. The data obtained were analyzed through three techniques: 1) Individual Score, 2) Minimum Mastery Criteria, 3) Matched t-test. The results of this study shows that: (1) The mean students’ score in the pre-test was 62.57,and the mean score of post-test was 69.42, (2) Comparing to the KKM the mean score of pre-test was 62.57 that was still in”failed” qualification and the mean score of post-test was 69.42,that considered in”mastered”qualification. And (3) The result of matched t-test was 2.8152, which was higher than 1.684value of the ttable of 35 with 95% significant level for one tailed-test. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that it was significantly effective to use Pictorial Context In Teaching reading Comprehension to the eighth grade students of SMP NegeriAir Satan in the academic year of 2013/2014.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to design speaking materials using task based language teaching for SMK Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau and (2) to describe the strengths and the weaknesses of the speaking materials using Task Based Language teaching for SMK Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau. This research include to Educational Research and Development (R&D) using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model (1983). The result present that the product relies much on pertaining the KD of 2013 curriculum and the teacher expected that the students need to increase speaking skill since they have opportunity to speak English. The speaking materials were in line with students wants. The strengths of this product helped students to improve their speaking skill especially the vocabularies, the language function and the grammar used in spoken language. The tasks can attract the students to actively involve the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to 1) produce a contextual-based English learning module for high school students, 2) find out the improvement of students' speaking skills after using the developed English learning module. The research method used in this research is research and development using the ADDIE Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate development model. The results of the validation of material experts 80.18, linguists 70.67, and media experts 89.72 were included in the very good category. The use of contextual-based English learning modules can improve students' speaking skills with the average acquisition score of students' speaking skills being 0.48.

Abstract

This research is aimed to investigate whether or not there is any significant effect four corners debate toward students speaking skill of the second semester at English education program STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. Four Corners Debate is one of an instructional strategy in speaking skill. This strategy can be used to solve students difficult in speaking skill and also can help students active in speaking activates especially in class. The subject of this investigation was all students of second semester. The purposive sampling was used in this investigation. The design of this research is quasi-experimental method. The data were collected by using oral test.  After data were collected, the researcher used t-test analysis to find any significant effect of corner debate toward speaking skill. The result of this research showed that the mean score of pre-test was 65.05 and the mean score of post-test was 77.11. T-test value was 3.90, at the level of significance 0.05 with df 30, the value of t-table was 1.697. It known that t-test value was higher that t-table indicated that the research hypothesis (Ha) was accepted where there was significant effect four corner debate toward students’ speaking skill. In summary, four corner debate strategies can help students more active in using English specially in speaking skill

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop listening material based on bottom up strategy that can make students master listening skills. This research method is the Research and Development (R&D) method. This method consists of identification of material needs, exploration of needs, realization of contextual materials, realization of pedagogical materials, production of materials, use of student materials and evaluation of materials against agreed goals. The population in this study were all students of the first semester English Education study program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau Academic Year 2020/2021. The results of this study make it easier for students to work on questions on the material that has been developed and make them more quickly understand. In conclusion, developing listening material based on a bottom-up strategy, researchers received a positive response from first semester students because it could help them learn to listen for general communication. In addition, researchers also use the bottom up strategy to develop this listening material, so that it can help make it easier for students to learn to listen for general communication. So, in this study the researchers succeeded in helping students facilitate listening learning in this first semester with a positive response from all students. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of content structure strategy on improving student's writing skills and to determine whether or not the content structure strategy was effective in increasing student's writing skills. This study used a cluster random sampling method consisting of 28 students taken as the research sample from three classes. The results showed that there was a significant difference between student scores before and after treatment. Student writing recount text increases after use. In addition, the calculated t-test match result is higher than the matched t-test result table coefficient. In conclusion, there was a significant different between the student's achievement before and after the treatment. The student's mean score on the post-test was higher than the mean score on the pre-test. This shows that the content structure strategy is effectively used in learning recount text in Al-Ikhlas Lubuklinggau Junior High School. Keywords: Ability, Content Structure, Strategy, Writing

Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe how many word students able to write English vocabulary in a short time and to describe the students’ difficulties in mastery English vocabulary. This research designed in a qualitative descriptive method, the data collected through written tests and unstructured interviews by using Focus Group Discussion. The subject of this research was twenty students grade two of Bahasa Indonesia Study Program at STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The results showed: in the writing English vocabulary test in three type Noun, verb and Adjective, students able to wrote average 10 word in each part and the students’ difficulties such as: Students seldom reading English text so their vocabulary mastery very low, Students has low ability to remember new English word caused of never practiced in the daily life and students confuse in using irregular word in arrange the sentence both writing and speaking.

Abstract

The problem of this study was “Is it significantly effective to use Bamboo Dancing Method to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Lubuklinggau in academic year of 2019/2010?” Therefore, the objective of this study was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to use Bamboo Dancing Method to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Lubuklinggau in academic year of 2019/2020 which was divided in to ten classes and the total number was 335 students. The applied method was Pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The writer used cluster random sampling to get the sample. The result was VIII.2 as sample group which consist of 34 students. The instrument of collecting the data was speaking test. The writer applied four techniques in analyzing the data. They were: 1) Individual Score, 2) Minimum Mastery Criteria, 3) Normality test, 4) the Paired t-test. The result of this study: (1) The mean of students’ score in the Pre-test was 29.59, (2)The mean of students score in the Post-test was 78.41, and (3) The result of Paired t-test was 5.69, at one tailed the degree of freedom (df) will be 33 (34-1) with 5% (0.05) significance level, t-table value is 1.692. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that it was significantly effective to use Bamboo Dancing Method to the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 1 Lubuklinggau in academic year of 2019/2020.

Abstract

This study tried to investigate the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari. There were two problems which discussed in this study. First was there any correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari? Second, what was the percentage of Students’ Learning Strategy? The objectives of this study were to find out the percentages of students’ learning strategy and to find out the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsai. The method used in this study was correlation research. The population of this study was all of the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari in the academic year 2015/2016. The total number of population was 182 students which were distributed into six classes. There were 28 students treated as the sample of the study. The sample was taken through random sampling. In collecting the data of students’ learning strategy, the writer used questionnaire by strategy inventory for language learning and in collecting the data of students’ English achievement, the writer used students’ report score. Then, the technique for analyzing the data, the writer used Spearman Rank Correlation to find out the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement. Based on the findings, the result of the calculation correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement was 0.542, whereas the coefficient of correlation was 0.318 (obtained > table ). So the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, it means that there was a correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wuirsari in the academic year of 2015/2016. Finally, the aim of this article was to clarify on students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement.
