Abstract

The maritime industry generally recruits vocational graduates who possess specific skills, such as technical drawing and proficiency in Computer-Aided Design software. However, some vocational high school students still have limitations in industry-based drafter practice and the use of CAD software. This community service activity aims to improve the basic competencies of vocational high school students as ship construction technical drafters through structured CAD training. The activity was held at Politeknik Negeri Batam on 7–10 October 2025, involving 26 participants from SMKS Kartini Batam and SMKS Al Jabar Batam, consisting of students and accompanying teachers. The implementation methods included theoretical instruction, demonstrations, hands-on practice, simple industry-based case studies, and intensive mentoring. The training materials covered an introduction to ship construction, basic CAD usage, basic object creation, dynamic input, editing tools, orthographic drawing, dimensioning, templates, plotting, and an introduction to three-dimensional CAD. Evaluation was conducted through a pre-test, post-test, and participant satisfaction questionnaire. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding and basic skills in the field of ship construction drafting. Based on the questionnaire results, 95.8% of participants strongly agreed that the training materials were useful, 87.5% strongly agreed that the materials were relevant to their needs, and 87.5% strongly agreed that their knowledge and skills improved after participating in the training. Therefore, this training was effective in strengthening basic CAD-based drafting competencies and supporting vocational high school students’ readiness to meet the needs of the maritime industry.

Abstract

Fuel leaks in aircraft engines are a critical maintenance issue that can compromise flight safety and increase operating costs. This study aims to analyze the causes and resolve a specific case of a fuel leak classified as a stain (wet area diameter less than ¾ inch) on the fuel drains tank ejector area of the right engine (Engine 2) of an Airbus A330-300 PK-GHC aircraft. The methodology employed includes visual field observations and a review of technical documents based on Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) 71-71-00-200-802-A and Troubleshooting Manual (TSM) task card 71-71-42-000-804-A. The investigation results showed that the leak was caused by structural damage to the left input connector. Corrective action was successfully executed by replacing the connector and installing a new seal ring (Part Number AS43013-131), followed by tightening the bolts to a torque specification of 90–110 lbf.in and the connector to 193.5–236.5 lbf.in. A post installation visual check confirmed that the system returned to normal operation with zero subsequent leaks. This case study provides a practical contribution by establishing that the connector on the fuel drains tank ejector is a critical component requiring regular preventive inspections, serving as a technical reference to prevent similar potential leak risks on wide-body aircraft fleets.

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and advanced air mobility (AAM) offer potential alternatives for improving cargo and passenger transport in regions where conventional transport is constrained by distance, terrain, and fragmented geography. This study systematically reviews the use of UAV and AAM systems for connectivity in remote, rural, and inter-island settings. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, searches were conducted in Scopus and Google Scholar through Publish or Perish. Of the 3,561 records identified, 74 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2016 and 2026 met the eligibility criteria. The evidence was synthesised narratively and supported by descriptive frequency analysis and bibliometric mapping using VOSviewer. Unlike earlier reviews that primarily examine urban air mobility, last-mile delivery, or medical-drone applications, this review jointly evaluates cargo and passenger transport, supporting infrastructure, and operational challenges from the perspective of remote and archipelagic connectivity. Cargo and goods transport accounts for 92% of the included studies, whereas passenger transport represents only approximately 1%. Multirotor platforms are the most frequently identified aircraft type, while weather, regulatory and airspace constraints, and limited supporting infrastructure are the leading operational challenges. The findings show that passenger-oriented and inter-island applications remain substantially underexplored and require field-based validation, particularly in archipelagic regions.
