Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discuss the functions of educational institutions, especially Islamic education, both formal, informal and non-formal. This research uses literature study research. Data is collected through literature studies that are in line with the discussion. The results of this study indicate that the purpose of Islamic education is to create people who are aware of their God. Islamic education can be pursued in three ways in accordance with Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System, namely; (1) Formal ways such as, MI, MTs, MA, and Islamic Universities, (2) Non-formal ways such as, Book Reading Training Institutions, TPQ, TPA, and so on, (3) Informal ways such as, Family Education and Community Education. It is not enough to develop the world of education through formal channels alone, but these three channels must work together to develop the world of education. One of the reasons for this is the increasing number of young people who are unable to continue their education. Employment, especially in the private sector, has developed quite rapidly and more than the development of the public sector

Abstract

Parental verbal insults can negatively affect adolescents' psychological development, particularly self-esteem. Repeated exposure to negative labeling, degrading comparisons, and other demeaning verbal expressions may lead adolescents to develop a negative self-concept and low self-confidence. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Person-Centered Therapy in improving the self-esteem of adolescents who experience parental verbal insults. This study employed a Pretest-Posttest Case Series design. The population consisted of 10 adolescents aged 15–20 years living in Dusun Buasan, Pana Village, Alla District, Enrekang Regency. Based on screening using the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES), two participants with low self-esteem and repeated experiences of parental verbal insults were selected. The intervention was conducted through six individual counseling sessions. Data were collected using the RSES, observations, and interviews and analyzed descriptively. The findings showed that both participants experienced increased self-esteem after the intervention. The first participant's score increased from 12 to 22 (83.3%), while the second participant's score increased from 14 to 21 (50%). Positive behavioral changes were also observed, including increased self-confidence, self-acceptance, and social interaction. These findings indicate that Person-Centered Therapy can help adolescents develop a more positive self-concept following experiences of parental verbal insults.

Abstract

Modern dynamics have contributed to a significant decline in empathy among adolescents; however, the potential of local wisdom as a foundation for guidance and counseling interventions remains empirically under-explored, particularly in the context of Mandar culture. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group guidance based on Siwaliparri values, a Mandar cultural concept emphasizing togetherness and equality, in enhancing student empathy. Employing a Pre-Experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest design, the research involved eight students (N=8) from SMA Negeri 1 Majene, selected via simple random sampling based on low empathy score criteria. Data were collected using an Empathy Scale (30 items, a=0.80) and analyzed using a Paired Sample t-test. Results indicated a significant increase in students’ empathy, shifting from the “low” category (Mean=70.1, SD=6.4) to the “moderate” category (Mean=86.3, SD=5.2), with t = 10.645 and p <0.001. The effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.78) demonstrates a very large practical impact of the intervention. In conclusion, Siwaliparri-based interventions are highly effective in increasing empathy, offering a culturally responsive framework for school counselors in Mandar and similar cultural contexts to address the empathy crisis among adolescents while preserving Mandar’s local wisdom.
