Abstract

Minyak esensial dari tumbuhan telah banyak digunakan sebagai repelen serangga, salah satu minyak esensial tersebut berasal dari ekstrak sereh wangi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat tingkat repelensi ekstrak sereh wangi terhadap beberapa strain kecoak jerman. Metoda yang digunakan adalah Tarsal Contact Test dengan rancangan acak lengkap dengan strain kecoak sebagai perlakuan. Kecoak yang digunakan adalah kecoak jantan strain standar (VCRU-WHO) dan strain lapangan (HHB-JKT, PLZ-PDG dan KRS-BDG) yang dikoleksi dari beberapa tempat berbeda di Indonesia. Repelensi berkisar antara 82-93% setelah jam ke-6 dan 57-84% pada jam ke-24. Tidak terdapat perbedaan yang nyata antar strain kecoak pada taraf 5%. Abstract

Rearing insects such as dragonflies and damselflies aim to gain uniform progeny that used for scientific purposes. In Indonesia, unfortunately, this rearing type is not yet common which suggests the time for its initiation. This study has objective to define the type of rearing cage for Agriocnemis femina damselfly (Odonata, Zygoptera, Coenagrionidae). It was conducted descriptively by using two smalls (9 x 13 x 23 cm), four medium (14 x 15 x 22 cm) and two larges (20 x 23 x 33 cm) size boxes as cage setups, with or without ornamental plants in it. The feeding was with limited (10-15 Drosophila flies provided per day) and unlimited provision. Data was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that A. femina lived normally, including eating and mating, within the large cage setup equipped with ornamental plants and unlimited feeding.

Abstract

The city of Padang produces approximately 600 tons of waste daily, which includes the categories of recyclable and non-recyclable waste. However, the percentage of waste that can be recycled is only about 17% and the rest must be heaped into end landfill every day. The category of recycled waste is counted as much as 65% is organic waste that is made into compost and 35% is both plastic and paper waste that is processed into other products. Maggot, which is the larva of the Black Soldier Fly, is an organic matter-decomposing agent that has better decomposition capabilities than other organisms. Maggot has biomass with high protein and fat content. Maggot farming is the most appropriate effort needed by the community today, because in addition to processing daily organic waste, it will also produce feed for livestock such as chicken, duck, fish, and bird. The farming process only requires simple technology and low cost, but is able to reduce the earth's waste load. The Andalas University community service team provided training on maggot farming to process organic waste from community households. The training was carried out using the Hybrid method, which is a combination of offline and online techniques with the same goal. The activity began with counseling on theoretical explanations, followed by both the farming practices and further program assisting. It hopes that the activity will be improved by other trainings such as Maggot’s processing into more valuable products, so that it can be packaged in such a way as to be marketed to the target purchasers.

Abstract

Galo-galo is a stingless bee that has been cultivated for the last ten years because of its potential as a producer of very good quality of honey. In addition, galo-galo is also capable of producing bee pollen and propolis, which are used to healthy and cosmetics products. The stingless bee keeping, also known as meliponiculture, is a sustainable activity that does not harm the environment, moreover it helps to increase productivity of several crops. This community service activity was carried out to accompany Bukik Nabu (UBUNA) business partners to develop the meliponicuture in residential area in Limau Manis Padang. The program included as assisting partners in developing several processed products based on honey, bee pollen and propolis. The method used was direct mentoring which begins with discussions and providing a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with partners, residents and local government. Several agreements and work plans have been made, i.e. enrichment of knowledge in galo-galo cultivation techniques and continuous propagation of feed plants for the bees’ production, furthermore assisting in produce of the food products, improving the packaging and marketing system of downtream products from meliponiculture.

Abstract

Galo-galo atau lebah madu tanpa sengat adalah kekayaan hayati yang dapat dioptimalkan sebagai penghasil madu dan propolis untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan manusia. Indonesia diketahui memiliki jenis-jenis lebah madu tanpa sengat yang belum begitu maksimal diternakan untuk menghasilkan madu dan produk meliponikultur lainnya seperti propolis dan bee pollen. Untuk itu telah dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat berupa peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat di Desa Suntur, Kecamatan Barangin, Kota Sawahlunto. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan oleh dosen dan mahasiswa dari Jurusan Biologi, Fakultas MIPA, Universitas Andalas bekerjasama dengan dosen dari Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan Indonesia pada tanggal 14 Juli 2019. Sebanyak lima peternak lebah tanpa sengat diwawancarai secara mendalam dengan menggunakan kuesioner untuk mendapatkan hal-hal kunci terkait dengan peternakan galo-galo di Desa Suntur, Sawahlunto. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan mengidentifikasi permasalahan berikut dengan kelebihan dan kekurangan dari kegiatan peternakan galo-galo di desa tersebut. Hal-hal ini kemudian digarisbawahi di dalam paper ini, sedangkan perkembangan peternakan galo-galo Sawahlunto yang dicapai paska kegiatan pengabdian ini juga dijabarkan, termasuk pembinaan kelompok ternak lebah, upaya peternakan terpadu, branding produk madu dan promosi hasil ternak galo-galo.

Abstract

 AbstractAgriocnemis femina known as variable wisp or pinhead wisp, is a damselfly from family Coenagrionidae which inhabits various aquatic habitats, including those affected by human. This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of variable wisp in polluted habitat. The tenerals, immature males, adult females and adult males of this damselfly were regularly counted from August 2018 until May 2019 at a 50 m ditch in a clustered settlement in Padang, West Sumatra. It was found that the ratio of teneral, immature male, adult female, and adult male was 1:3:2.4:13.3, implying that the population was dominated by males. Meanwhile, the ratio between female to male (which included the immature males) was 1:6.7. Comparing to the result of counting another population from a relatively clean area, variable wisp showed more dominance in polluted area rather than in clean waterbody. The presence of teneral also indicates that damselfly uses polluted ditch for its breeding site and habitat. The paper discussed the potential causes for damselfly's presence in polluted area, and therefore serves as baseline for future studies.AbstrakAgriocnemis femina, atau dikenal juga dengan nama capung-jarum centil, termasuk ke dalam keluarga Coenagrionidae yang menghuni beragam habitat perairan, termasuk yang telah mendapatkan pengaruh dari manusia. Individu teneral, jantan muda, betina dewasa, dan jantan dewasa dari capung-jarum ini dihitung secara rutin dari Agustus 2018 sampai dengan Mei 2019 pada selokan sepanjang 50 m di sebuah kompleks perumahan di Kota Padang, Sumatra Barat. Rasio teneral jantan muda, betina dewasa, dan jantan dewasa yang ditemukan adalah 1:3:2,4:13,3, mengisyarakatkan bahwa individu jantan merupakan bagian yang dominan di dalam populasi capung-jarum ini. Abstract

Stingless bee cultivation in Indonesia is now starting to develop, one of which is in West Sumatra, which has the potential as an effort to improve the community's economy. Stingless bees can produce nutritious products for health, such as honey and propolis, which can be processed into food, drinks, and other products sold at high prices. Community service activities were carried out to help the Class IIB Correctional Institution Padang community increase knowledge about Galo-galo beekeeping. The method used in this activity was helping through socialization, education, and discussion regarding the potential and methods of cultivating Galo-galo honey bees in residential areas and providing business motivation to improve the community's economy. All activities ran smoothly, and they were greeted enthusiastically by the inmates.

Abstract

Stingless bee cultivation in Indonesia, one of which is in West Sumatra, has the potential as an effort to improve the community's economy. Stingless bees, commonly called Galo-galo, can produce honey, propolis, and bee pollen, which have many benefits and produce high selling power. The community service activity accompanying the Bukik Nabu Business (UBUNA) aimed to develop the Galo-galo cultivation business in the Limau Manis village. This village has optimum natural conditions to cultivate stingless bees due to the availability of feed plant surroundings. The method used directly assisted the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of UBUNA. It started by adding the number of colonies to the community, harvesting independently on the type of Heterotrigona itama and Geniotrigona thoracica, upscaling branding, making product labels, product promotions, legality, and participating in collaborative events and festivals.

Abstract

Community development provides empowerment and opportunities for the community to explore the potential and resources around them to increase their productivity and welfare. Empowerment can be done in many fields, such as agriculture and animal husbandry. The potential for community empowerment in agriculture and animal husbandry, which is multiplying effects, is the cultivation of stingless bees (Galo-galo). One of the areas with great potential for developing this cultivation was Nagari Tigo Balai Matur, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This activity aims to facilitate the community regarding Galo-galo cultivation in the environment around the Nagari Tigo Balai Matur community, Agam Regency. The activity was conducted in May-August 2023, using counselling methods (education and direct facilitation/mentoring) with pilot practices in field activities. The results obtained from this activity were an increase in public knowledge about stingless bee farming (Galo-galo meliponiculture), the transfer of 21 Tetragonula sp. bee colonies to a maintenance box, and the appearance of very high public interest in galo-galo cultivation based on local potential.
