Abstract

A study about dung beetles species was conducted at the Educational and Biological Research Forest. Pitfall trap method was used to collect dung beetles which cow, cat and human feses were put above each of the trap. The beetles colection was conducted at four locations (river, permanent plot, camp and villa). A total of 10 species of dung beetles that belong to two subfamilies, three tribes and five genera was collected. About three species were not reported in previous studies in West Sumatra.Keywords: Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Pitfall trap, West Sumatera

Abstract

An inventory of ants from subfamily Formicinae at Lembah Anai Nature Reserve, West Sumatra was conducted from June to November 2013. Quadra Protocol methods were used to collect ant samples, i.e; hand collecting, honey bait trap, soil core sampling and leaf litter sifting along two 180 m transects. Those methods were applied at two different habitats (forest edge and forest interior). We found 163 individuals of Formicinae which belong to 23 species, 8 genera and 3 tribes. Abstract

A study on dung beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) at Lembah Harau Nature Reserve was conducted from July to September 2013. The aim of this study was to identify dung beetles species at the Nature Reserve. We used pitfall trap to collect the beetle along three tracking paths from 500 to 800 asl. We successfully collected 539 individual dung beetles those belong to 18 species, eight genera, six tribes and two subfamilies. Eleven species (61,1 %) of the beetles was not reported in previous study in Indonesia. This suggest to further exploration using various method in various habitat types are necessary.Keyword : dung beetle, Scarabaeidae, Lembah Harau, West Sumatra

Abstract

The research on morphometric variations of toads Duttaphrynus melanostictus (Schneider, 1799) (Anura: Bufonidae) in West Sumatera those separated geographically by Barisan Mountain was conducted from July to September 2012 with 4 sampling areas (Surantih, Padang, Suliki and Sijunjung). Survey and direct collection methods were used in this study. Morphometric characters measurement was conducted at Animal Taxonomy Laboratory of Biology Department, Faculty of Sciences, Andalas University. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphometric variation in population of D. melanostictus. The results showed that morphometric differentiation between western and eastern population of D. melanostictus in both within males and females. This finding might support that Barisan Mountain has isolated the populations.Keywords: morphometrics, variation, Duttaphrynus melanostictus, West Sumatra

Abstract

A study about the intensity attact of ant in dragon fruit (Hylocereus sp.) plantation was conducted on September 2015 in Pariaman City, West Sumatera. The ants were collected by using free collection method with purposive sampling techniques. About 10% of the dragon fruit plant in the study location was observed.The result showed that theintensity attack on dragon fruit was caused by fire ant Solenopsis geminata(25%).

Abstract

The research about composition and structure of Collembola community was conducted at TKA company area, west Sumatra. Collembola were collected at oil palm plantation, conservasion forest and forest edge sites (between conservation forest and plantation area) by survey method with systematic random sampling for collembolla in litter and soil. A total of four Collembola species that belonging to 2 orders, 3 families, 4 genera and 57 individuals was collected. The density of Collembola in litter at conservation forest site was higher than density of Collembola at oil palm plantation site meanwhile the density of Collembola in soil at conservation forest site was higher than density of Collembola in the soil at palm plantation site. Relative density of Isotomiella sp. in litter at oil palm plantation site (100%) was higher than relative density of Folsomides sp. at conservation forest site (5,5%) as well as in the soil. The highest diversity index of Collembola was found in litter of conservation forest (1,18). The highest similarity index was found between conservation forest and forest edge (85,71%) meanwhile the lowest similarity index was found between conservation forest and oil palm plantation (40%).

Abstract

An inventory of ants from dragon fruit plantation at Lubuk Minturun and Ketaping, West Sumatra was made from July to September 2013 by using modified Quadra Protocol methods including honey bait trap, soil core sampling and direct collection. Twelve species of ants that belong to four subfamilies, 10 genera and 2807 individuals were collected from both locations. The highest number of species was found in Myrmicinae (four species), followed by Dolichoderinae (three species), Formicinae (three species) and the lowest number of species was found in Ponerinae (one species). Abstract

Research about inventory of ants Myrmicinae (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Nature Reserve Maninjau Utara-Selatan, Agam, West Sumatra was conducted from June to December 2015 by using the "Quadra protocol" which consist of a combination of four methods:  free collection, leaf litter sampling, soil sampling, honey  bait. A total of 19 species, 9 genera, 5 tribe were collected. Pheidole was found as genus with the highest number of species (9 species), followed by Crematogaster (3 species).

Abstract

Sapi perah adalah hewan ternak yang menghasilkan susu sebagai produk utamanya. Pemeliharaan sapi perah merupakan faktor penunjang suksesnya usaha ternak. Penyakit pada ternak akibat infestasi dan infeksi parasit dapat merugikan secara ekonomis, karena dapat menurunkan produktifitas dari ternak tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis ektoparasit dan endoparasit pada sapi perah di Kota Padang Panjang serta mengetahui prevalensi masing-masing jenis. Penelitian dilakukan sejak Februari hingga Mei 2016 di tiga peternakan sapi perah di Kota Padang Panjang dan Laboratorium Taksonomi Hewan Jurusan Biologi Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Andalas. Sampel ektoparasit dan sampel feses dikoleksi dari 10 ekor sapi perah pada masing-masing peternakan, pemeriksaan sampel feses dilakukan dengan metode sentrifugasi-flotasi. Sampel ektoparasit yang didapatkan diperiksa dengan mikroskop binokuler dan diawetkan sebagai preparat permanen. Hasil penelitian didapatkan tiga jenis ektoparasit yaitu Rhipicephalus sp. (nilai prevalensi 20%), Boophilus microplus (nilai prevalensi 57%) dan Haematopinus tuberculatus (nilai prevalensi 67%). Endoparasit yang ditemukan hanya satu jenis yaitu telur Ascaris lumbricoides fertil dengan nilai prevalensi 10%.

Abstract

Kambing merupakan hewan ternak yang banyak dikonsumsi oleh masyrakat di Kota Padang. Pertumbuhan populasi kambing belum sebanding dengan angka permintaan yang terus meningkat, hal ini disebabkan umumnya kambing ini dipelihara secara tradisional dalam skala kepemilikan kecil sehingga pemeliharaannya kurang diperhatikan dan dapat menyebabkan kambing mudah terserang oleh parasit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis parasit pada kambing di Kota Padang serta mengetahui prevalensi masing-masing jenis. Penelitian ini dilakukan sejak bulan April hingga Mei 2016 di lima lokasi di Kota Padang dan Laboratorium Taksonomi Hewan Jurusan Biologi Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Andalas. Sampel feses dikoleksi dari 25 ekor kambing, pemeriksaan sampel feses dilakukan dengan metode sentrifugasi-flotasi. Hasil penelitian didapatkan dua jenis endoparasit yaitu: Trichostrongylus sp. (nilai prevalensi 64%) dan jenis tidak teridentifikasi (Unidentified sp.) dari famili Taeniidae (nilai prevalensi 16%).
