Abstract

This research aims to investigate the tpe of flouting maxim that occurs on family’s communication at home domain. The design of this research used descriptive qualitative research. People who did communication at the writer’s home as the subject of this research. The data was collected by using observation, recording the conversation and using field note. Then data was analyzed by using Miles and Huberman Model that consisted three stage, namely data reduction, displaying data and drawing conclusion/verification. The result of the study shows that there are four types of flouting maxim that occurred in family’s communication at home, namely flouting maxim in quality, flouting maxim in quantity, flouting maxim in relevance, and flouting maxim in manner. In doing communication, the flouting maxim is done to get intention and purpose.

Abstract

This research is conducted because of Covid-19 that has been going on for almost 2 years and it affect to the teaching learning process at SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong. The objective of research is to know and describe challenges and strategies faced by English teacher in online learning (OL) as long as pandemic. In this research, the research used qualitative research. The source of data came from 3 English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong. The technique that used to collect data by using questionnaire. The data was analysed by using Miles and Huberman model. Three stages were used in analysing data, namely data reduction, displaying data and drawing conclusion/verification. The result of the research showed that teachers’ undergone several challenges at SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong, namely; (1) uneven network, (2) limited facility, (3) student learning lost, (4) Students were not so serious to the lesson and (5) willing to explain the explanation two or three times. whereas, teacher’s strategies were used English teacher in SMA Negeri 1 Siborongborong during OL were; (1) Teacher did not force the students to have too much (2) Limiting the material and homework (3) motivating and supporting the students (4) Inviting student to joke so they don’t get bored right away (5) Trying to present interesting learning process for students. So, it can be concluded that network affects to the students’ ability in understanding the material in the classroom.

Abstract

In this study, descriptive analysis was used as the method which focused on describing the students’ vocabulary mastery in using antonym. The data was taken from 25 students of the 2nd grade in SMP Swasta Advent 5 Medan. The study used content analysis as the instrument of collecting data. The result of this study shows that the level ability of students’ vocabulary mastery in using defining antonym was categorized as poor level. The percentage of the level ability of students’ vocabulary mastery in doing the antonym test shows that from 25 samples, there were 3/12 % students fall in the excellent level, 2/8 % students fall in the good level, 3/12 % students fall in the fair level, 6/24 % students fall in weak level, 11/44 % students fall in poor level which can be concluded as the most level reached by the students. The graphic clearly shows that most of the students’ vocabulary mastery fall in the poor level in using antonym. The result of students’ interview which involved 5 participants which aimed to find out the students’ difficulties in learning vocabulary shows that most of students reciprocally mention that English is one of the most difficult subjects learnt at school. The lack of repetition by students was also one of the main reason of students limited vocabularies which lead to the result of poor level ability of students’ vocabulary mastery particularly in defining antonym. Abstract

This research focuses on finding out the effect of the Using Animation Movies on students' listening skill. The aim of this research is to find out whether the using Animation Movies affects students' listening performance. This research was carried out as an applied experimental quantitative research type. The research sample consisted of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 37 Medan. The author took class VIII-A, consisting of 32 students, as an experimental class using the Animation Movies, and class VIII-B, consisting of 32 students, as a control group using the Active Listening Skills Approach. The population of this study was 64 students, consisting of class VIII. The author took two classes as a random sample to see the influence of the Using Animation Movies as a medium for developing students' listening skills. Data is taken by giving a listening test. The test was divided into two tests: a pre-test and a post-test for the experimental and control groups. The average pre-test score in the experimental class was 65,6 and the post-test score was 80. The average pre-test score in the control group was 55,9. and the post-test score was 68,9. This shows that the average score in the experimental group was higher than the control group. The result is t-calculated > t-table with a significance level of p = 0.05 (2,54 > 1.669). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is recommended that English subject teachers apply the using Animation Movies as an alternative teaching medium to help the listening skills of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 37 Medan.

Abstract

Pemilihan model pembelajaran yang tepat akan sangat berpengaruh baik terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model discovery learning berbantuan mind mapping terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik pada materi getaran dan gelombang kelas VIII UPT SMP Negeri 14 Medan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan populasi yaitu seluruh peserta didik kelas VIII UPT SMP Negeri 14 Medan. Teknik penarikan sampel yang digunakan yaitu purposive sampling, yaitu kelas VIII C dan VIII D masing-masing sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes hasil belajar bentuk pilihan ganda sebanyak 20 butir soal. Sebelum diberi perlakuan terlebih dahulu dilakukan uji prasyarat untuk mengetahui apakah sampel berasal dari populasi yang berdistribusi normal dan homogen. Selanjutnya pretest diberikan kepada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dengan skor rata-rata masing-masing 45,50 dan 45,17 dengan standar deviasi 14,16 dan 13,93. Setelah perlakuan dilanjutkan dengan pemberian posttest diperoleh rata-rata masing-masing 80,67 dan 71,50 dengan standar deviasi 10,06 dan 9,93. Untuk melihat perbedaan pada kedua kelas dilakukan uji t satu pihak dengan α = 0,05 diperoleh bahwa thitung lebih besar dari ttabel yang mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan hasil belajar pada kedua kelas. Selanjutnya besarnya pengaruh model discovey learning berbantuan mind mapping terhadap hasil belajar dilakukan uji regresi sederhana. Akhirnya disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan model discovery learning berbantuan mind mapping terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik UPT SMP Negeri 14 Medan pada materi getaran dan gelombang.

Abstract

Kosakata sebagai dasar untuk berbicara dengan orang lain sangatlah penting. Dengan memiliki banyak kosakata, seseorang dapat berkomunikasi dengan orang lain dengan lancar. Aplikasi Spotify Playlist digunakan untuk meningkatkan perolehan kosakata siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Penggunaan Aplikasi Spotify Playlist terhadap Penguasaan Kosakata siswa di SMP N 10 Medan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan jenis penelitian kuantitatif Eksperimental. Objek penelitian ini adalah Siswa kelas II SMP N 10 Medan. Terdiri dari 40 siswa yang terdiri dari dua kelompok, kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Spotify Playlist digunakan untuk mengajar kelompok Eksperimen, sedangkan strategi konvensional digunakan untuk mengajar kelompok Kontrol. Instrumen pengumpulan datanya adalah menyusun ulang kata, tes kosakata drag and drop sebanyak 25 item. Rata-rata nilai pre-test siswa pada kelompok eksperimen adalah 62,55 dan rata-rata nilai post-test pada kelompok eksperimen adalah 80,2 sedangkan rata-rata nilai pre-test pada kelompok kontrol adalah 61,45 , dan rata-rata post-test adalah 73,45. Perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa reliabilitasnya adalah 5,479. Rumus uji T digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa t-observasi (5,479) lebih besar dari t-tabel (2,026) pada taraf signifikansi (a) 0,05 dan derajat kebebasan (d) sebesar 38. Artinya Aplikasi Spotify Playlist mempunyai pengaruh berpengaruh signifikan terhadap penguasaan kosa kata siswa. Jadi Ha diterima.

Abstract

The program of Pengabdian Kepada Masysarakat (Public Community Service) is aimed the literacy improvement training for elementary and junior high school children aims to provide students as well as teachers with information assistance about the importance of literacy for the development of knowledge in Indonesian society. This activity was carried out by lecturers and students from the English Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, HKBP Nommensen University with students from Czech University. The program of PKM Activity was started on July 25th, 2022, and ended on July 26th, 2022. It is very clear that the cause of the low literacy ability (in terms of reading) is the oral tradition that is still rooted in society. In addition, related to elementary schools, the school system still does not provide opportunities for literacy traditions to students. This also happened to students at SD and SMP HKBP Sidorame Medan. This problem is trying to be minimized by conducting community service programs related to literacy for elementary and junior high school students. The Project represents one of the important areas of development of reading literacy in school. The most positive feature is the fact that there are large numbers of identified target groups, not only students but also teachers. Teachers themselves should expose students to literacy. Literacy should become a culture.

Abstract

Mastery of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a crucial aspect in improving the quality of learning for prospective English teachers in the digital era. TPACK is an integration of pedagogical, content and technology in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the level of mastery of TPACK in prospective English teachers at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, HKBP Nommensen University. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative approach with an instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 34 statement items related to TPACK. The participants in this study consisted of 18 prospective English teacher students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, HKBP Nommensen University. The results showed that the mastery of Content Knowledge (CK) and Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) and Technological Knowledge (TK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), and Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) aspects were categorized as good. Furthermore, the overall mastery of TPACK on prospective English teachers is categorized as good. This finding indicates that prospective English teachers at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, HKBP Nommensen University have readiness to teach in a technology-based environment.

Abstract

Abstract: Innovation of education is needed to ensure effective online learning practices during the pandemic. It is necessary to avoid the accumulation of assignments without sufficient materials. Material needs must be met, for that a module is needed. this R&D-based study was conducted to determine the feasibility of the learning module. The research subject were several students from SMA Negeri 14, SMA Yapim, SMA Negeri 21, SMA Nasrani 3, and SMA Advent Air Bersih in Medan. Data were collected using a 4-D model and the results showed that the module was feasible to be used as indicated by the validation and try out score from lecturers, teachers, and students got score above 75%. Keywords: module; online learning; observation report  Abstrak: Inovasi pendidikan sangat dibutuhkan untuk mengefektifkan pembelajaran online di masa pandemi. Pembelajaran online perlu menghindari menumpuk tugas tanpa materi yang cukup. Kebutuhan akan materi harus terpenuhi, untuk itulah diperlukan modul. Penelitian ini berbasis research and development bertujuan untuk mengetahui kelayakan modul pembelajaran. Subjek penelitian adalah sejumlah siswa di Kota Medan, yakni SMA Negeri 14 Medan, SMA Yapim Medan, SMA Negeri 21 Medan, SMA Nasrani 3 Medan, SMA Advent Air Bersih. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan model 4-D dan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa modul layak digunakan dilihat dari hasil uji validasi dan uji coba terhadap dosen ahli, guru, dan siswa memperoleh nilai di atas 75 %. Kata Kunci: modul; pembelajaran online; laporan hasil observasi
