Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa setelah diajarkan melalui movies dan kesulitan siswa dalam penggunaan movies. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest dan posttest. Tes kosakata dan interview digunakan untuk pengambilan data. Data ini di analisis menggunakan repeated measured T-test. Subyek penelitian ini 24 siswa dari kelas satu pada SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan antara pretest dan posttest. Dengan level signifikan adalah p0.05 (p=0.000). Penemuan kedua mengungkapkan bahwa siswa merasa sulit untuk memahami kata-kata atau frasa yang sulit, pengucapan penutur aslinya dan tingkat kecepatan penutur aslinya. Meskipun siswa menemukan kesulitan, siswa mampu meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata.Dari hasil yang didapat, disimpulkan bahwa movies direkomendasikan untuk digunakan sebagai alternatif media dalam mengajar kosakata.The aims of the research were to find out the improvement of students vocabulary mastery after being taught through movies and the students difficulties to the implementation of movies. The research used one group pretest and posttest design. The vocabulary test and interview were used to collect the data. The datas were analyzed by using repeated measured T-test. The subjects of this study were 24 students from the first grade students of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students mean score between the pretest and the posttest with significant level p0.05 (p=0.000). The second finding revealed that the students found it hard to understand the difficult words or phrases, the native speakers pronunciation, and the native speakers speed rate. Even though the students find difficulties, the students are able to improve their vocabulary mastery. This suggests that moviescan be used as an alternative media in teaching vocabulary.Key words: improve, movies, vocabulary mastery

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pengajaran bahasa berbasis tugas terhadap prestasi mendengarkan siswa kelas satu SMA Al-Kautsar Bandar Lampung. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah 30 siswa kelas satu SMA. Data dikumpulkan melalui sebelum dan sesudah tes, mengambil bentuk tes mendengarkan. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Paired Sample T-Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dalam menyimak prestasi siswa pada kelas I SMA Al-Kautsar Bandar Lampung setelah diajar dengan menggunakan pengajaran bahasa berbasis tugas dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.05. Hal ini menandakan bahwa pengajaran bahasa berbasis tugas dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa.The aim of the study was to find out the effect of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) on the students’ listening achievement of the first grade of SMA Al-Kautsar Bandar Lampung. The approach of the research was quantitative. The subjects were 30 students of the first grade of SMA. The data were collected through the pre-and the post tests, taking the forms of listening tests. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-Test. The result showed that there was a statistically significant effect of TBLT on the students’ listening comprehension with the significant level of 0.05. This suggests that TBLT facilitates the students to improve their ability in listening skills.Keywords:listening, listening ability,task-based language teaching

Abstract

Capability of speaking in English has necessarily become the need of the students of senior high school. However, the majority of the students have low capability of speaking. This was due to a number of factors, one which was the inappropriate use of the method the teacher used in the classroom. The guessing game technique was beloved to have enabled students to improve their speaking capability.The current research aimed to investigate i) the significant improvement of the students’ speaking ability after the implementation of the guessing game technique, ii) the effect of the guessing game technique on the students’ capability in every single aspect of speaking and, iii) the correlation between the students’ attitudes and their speaking achievement.The subjects of the research were 35 students at SMAN 1 Sidomulyo. There were three raters who assessed students’ speaking ability. The data were collected trough the tests (pre-test and post-test) and questionnaires. Furthermore, the Repeated measure t-test was used to analyze the data collected from both the pre and the post tests. While, the data from questionnaires were analyzed by using Pearson product moment.The results showed that the guessing game technique has a statistically significant effect on the students’ speaking ability with the significant level 0.05. Moreover, there was correlation between the students’ attitudes and their speaking achievement. This suggests that the guessing game technique facilitates students to improve their capability of speaking.Keywords: speaking, guessing game technique, descriptive text, attitude

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penerapan TBLT dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa SMP Widya Dharma Bandar lampung. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan menggunakan tes tulis; Tes pra dan uji pos. Data dianalisis dengan uji T-test berulang menggunakan SPSS 16.0. Selain itu, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre dan post test selanjutnya metode ini berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Singkatnya, TBLT mampu meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis.The objectives of this research is to find out whether the implementation of TBLT can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive texts. The sample of the research are is junior high school student of  Widya Dharma Bandar lampung. Data of the research were obtained by using writing tests; Pre tests and post tests. The data were analysed by Repeated measure T-test using SPSS 16.0.Moreover, the result showed that there is a significant difference between the pre and post test furthermore the method has successfully improve students writing ability. Abstract

In learning speaking, the students of Senior High School should be able to speak English appropriately. In the real condition, some students of Senior High School found difficulties in speaking English that is caused of some factors. One of the factors was how the teacher delivered the material. The materials were given by the teachers were not interesting. To make them interested and wanted to share their feelings in speaking English, the researcher used news item video as the media in the process of teaching and learning English. The research was intended to find out statistically significant improvement of the students’ speaking ability after they got treatment by using news item video. The subjects of the research were 27 students at SMAN 2 Bandar Lampung. There were three raters who assessed students’ speaking ability. The data were collected through speaking test (pretest and posttest). The paired simple t-test was used to analyze the data collected from both the pretest and posttest. The result showed that the news item video had statistically significant improvement on the students speaking ability with the significant level 0.05. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali efek penerapan pembelajaran berbasis proyek melalui tanggapan siswa terhadap setiap tahapan pembelajaran dan bagaimana peningkatan kemampuan menulisnya. Peserta penelitian ini adalah 29 orang siswa kelas 9. Terdapat dua jenis data yang diambil yaitu data kualitatif dan data kuantitatif.  Untuk memperoleh data, peneliti melakukan rekaman audio-visual seluruh langkah kegiatan saat penerapan pembelajaran berbasis proyek dan melakukan pre-tes dan pos-tes menulis. Instrumen pengumpul data yang digunakan adalah tes menulis, telepon pintar untuk merekam proses, dan borang wawancara. Temuan yang diperoleh menunjukan bahwa para siswa memberikan tanggapan positif terhadap penerapan semua langkah pembelajaran berbasis proyek yang dilakukan dan adanya peningkatan nilai menulis yang signifikan pada aspek isi, organisasi, tata bahasa, kosa kata, mekanis, dan panjang tulisan.The current research was aimed to explore the effects of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) implementation on students’ responses and writing achievement. The participants of the research were 28 students of year 9. The data took the form of qualitative and quantitative.  The data of the students” responses were collected through interview and they were video-taped, while data of students’ writing scores were gained by administering writing test. The research instruments used among them were writing test, smart phones as audio-visual gadget to record the proccess, and an interview protocol.The findings show that students responded positively to the all stages of PjBL implementation and there was a significant increase of students’ writing improvement in the aspects of content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, and length of writing.Keywords: Project-based learning, factual report text, writing aspects, interview protocol.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan prestasi belajar siswa antara mereka yang diajar pre-task dan online planning. Penelitian dilakukan secara kuantitatif. Ini melibatkan kelas XI SMK Kosgoro Sribhawono Lampung Timur. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes tulis. Validitas tes penulisan lebih difokuskan pada validitas konstruk di mana peneliti mengembangkan dan mendasarkan tes penulisan. Untuk keandalan, peneliti menggunakan reliabilitas interrater yang dihitung dengan menggunakan SPSS dengan melihat nilai koordinat Kappa yang menentukan reliabilitas pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada penulisan bahasa Inggris siswa. Hal ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa pre-task meningkatkan penulisan bahasa Inggris siswa dalam aspek konten. Oleh karena itu, guru harus mengoptimalkan penggunaan pre-task sebelum memulai tugas yang sebenarnya sehingga siswa dapat mempersiapkan diri lebih banyak dan meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka dalam menyusun tulisan.This research aims to investigate the difference on students writing achievement between those who were taught using pre-task planning and online planning.This research was conducted quantitative. It involved experimental and control classes of the eleventh graders of SMK Kosgoro Sribhawono East Lampung. The data were collected through a writing test. The validity of the writing test focused more on the construct validity in which the researcher developed and based the writing. For the reliability, the researcher used interrater reliability which was calculated using SPSS by seeing the cooficient of Kappa value which determined the reliability of pretest and posttest. The result showed that there is a significant difference on the students English writing. It also revealed that pre-task planning increases the students English writing in content aspect. Therefore, the teacher should optimize the use of pre-task planning before beginning the actual task so that the students are able to prepare more and increase their confidence in composing writing.Keywords: Online planning, pre-task planning, writing ability.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to know whether there is any improvement of students' speaking achievement after using WhatsApp group application. This is pre-experimental research that involved 1 class in junior high school which included 26 students. The data collecting was gained through pre-test and post-test. Those data were analyzed quantitatively. The result showed that there was significant improvement of students' speaking achievement after using WhatsApp group application. That finding showed that statistically, the average scores of post-test significantly improved than the average scores in the pre-test. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui apakah online reading dan discussion boards pada facebook sebagai kegiatan pre-writing dapat meningkatkan kualitas writinglebih baik daripada kegiatan pre-writing melalui printed text reading, aspek writing apa yang meningkat secara signifikan dan persepsi siswa terhadap ORDB. Pada desain quantitatif, uji tes awal dan tes akhir kelompok kontrol dilakukan dan pada desain qualitatif, kuesioner dilaksankan.Pada pengumpulan data, teswriting, analisa dokumen, dan kuesioner digunakan. Subyek dibagi dua kelompok, eksperimen dan kontrol, masing-masing terdiri dari 17 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan nilai signifikan dua arah 0.000. Berdasarkan aspek writing yang meningkat secara signifikan, ORDB meningkatkan kualitas writing terutama pada vocabulary. Siswa meningkat pada vocabulary dengan penambahan 1.62 (8.1%) dengan pre-writing melalui printed-text reading dan 3.06 (15.3%) dengan ORDB. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perbedaan pada kedua kegiatan pre-writing. Berdasarkan kuesioner, diketahui bahwa metode ini dapat meningkatkan motivasi dan partisipasi dalam menulis.This research was conducted to find out whether online reading and discussion boards on facebook as pre-writing activities can improve writing quality better than pre-writing activity through printed text, what aspects of writing significantly improved, and the students perception of ORDB. In quantitative design, control group pre-test and post-test design was conducted and in qualitative design, questionnaire was conducted. To collect the data, the writing test, document analysis, and questionnaire were used. The subjects were divided into two groups, the experimental and control, each consists of 17. The result showed the value of two-tailed significance was 0.000. Based on the aspects of writing which are significantly improved, ORDB promoted their writing performance mainly in vocabulary. Students improved vocabulary with gain 1.62 (8.1%) with pre-writing through printed text and 3.06 (15.3%) with ORDB. The result showed the difference of both pre-writing. Based on questionnaire, it was noted that it may increase motivation and participation in writing.Keywords: Discussion Boards, Facebook, Online Reading, Pre-writing.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada efek dari penerapan teknik pembelajaran bahasa berbasis Task (Task-Based Language Teaching) terhadap pencapaian berbicara siswa pada siswa tingkat pertama di SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan dan bagaimana kinerja siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek nya adalah 30 siswa kelas X IPA 5 di SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan. Tes berbicara dalam bentuk menceritakan kejadian masa lampau digunakan untuk mengumpulan data. Data dianalisis menggunakan Pired Sample T-test. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada efek secara statistik terhadap pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan Task-Based Language Teaching dengan level signifikansi 0.00. Dengan demikian, TBLT adalah salah satu teknik yang dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif teknik pembelajaran bahasa untuk meningkatakan pencapaian berbicara siswa.    The aim of this study was to find out whether there was a statistically significant effect of Task-based language teaching (TBLT) on students’ speaking achievement in terms of complexity, accuracy, and fluency aspect of the first grade students at SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan The research used quantitative approach. The subjects were 30 students in class X IPA 5 of SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan. The speaking tests in the form of telling the past story were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using paired sample T-test. The result showed that there was a statistically significant effect of the implementation of TBLT on the students’ speaking achievement with the significant level 0.00.
