Abstract

Keyword: Adat Dalem Tamblingan (ADT), Brasti, Menega, Gosip, Warga Gobleg.

Abstract

Kaliurang has a very iconic traditional food called jadah tempe and can only be found in this tourist area. However, now many tempeh products which are classified as MSMEs are bought and sold outside the area. Business problems and marketing strategies are the objectives that want to be uncovered to find out the causes of the widespread sales of this traditional food. This research uses a formalist economic anthropology perspective with qualitative methods. The result is that as a tourist destination as well as a disaster-prone area of Merapi, the problems faced by Kaliurang jadah tempeh craftsmen are more complex than MSMEs in general. As a result, tight business competition due to reduced sources of income cannot be avoided. The eruption of Merapi has had a degrading impact on visitors. This problem is correlated with the marketing strategy implemented. Diffusion is the main strategy for craftsmen to solve business risks. Furthermore, it is effective in expanding market share and increasing revenue.

Abstract

Abstract The creativity of the community in processing various types of porang-based foods is needed. Porang is a local Indonesian commodity that has enormous potential to be exported and sold in the international market. Porang tubers are the raw material for making shirataki rice which has a very high selling price. To achieve this goal, training in making processed food from porang is required. This community service programme focuses on training assistance in porang-based food processing. To see how much the community understands after receiving training, on the third day a porang-based food cooking competition was held to motivate residents to make new innovations related to porang food recipes that they develop. The target location for this community service programme is in Karangpatihan Village, Pulung District, Ponorogo Regency by targeting PKK mothers in four hamlets including Jurugan, Selodono, Krajan, and Dungus. This community service activity was closed with a focus group discussion (FGD) to listen to the aspirations of PKK women and see the future of porang in the region. As is the case in several other areas, the constraints of the community in processing porang are related to the processing of porang which is still quite complicated. In addition, the itchiness caused by holding porang in the hand.

Abstract

Abstract

This article highlights the weaknesses in the formalistic approach to Islamic finance which deals mainly with shariah compliance. This research examines religious elements  that consist in the operations of the Indonesian Islamic microfinance institution by criticizing it for the costs of transactions, the composition of contracts, and the procedures for murābaḥah (working capital finance). Acknowledging that shariah principles were compromised  to some extent, the BMT’s employees did not question the Islamic character and identity of the BMT.  Highlighting their commitments to improving the economic conditions of the Muslim community, active involvement in charity and socio-religious works, business practices caring for the unfortunate people, and their Islamic networks, the employees believe that the BMT has implemented Islamic values. For them, Islamic finance is not only attributed to sharia compliance, but it must also contain a wide range of religious tendencies and practices. By stressing the importance of the aspirations and commitments of Muslim activists, this paper widens the discussion of how to vitalize Islamic finance.

Abstract

Peat communities in Kepulauan Meranti face clean water scarcity and the lack of a national clean water supply system. We aim to observe local adaptation strategies in response to locally available water resources. We examined two villages (Lukun and Beting) and a city (Kota Selat Panjang), and ethnicities (indigenous Orang Akit, Malay, and Tionghoa) and problems concerning clean water scarcity. We conducted participatory observations and in-depth interviews for two months. We gathered data on water sources, perceptions regarding causes of water scarcity, and adaptation strategies. There are four local water sources. They are peat water (red water), borewell water (white water), rainwater, and packaged water. The perceived quality of these sources is influenced by environmental, religious, cultural, and economic values, affecting each ethnic group’s adaptation strategies. Rainwater is perceived as a clean source accessible to all, but differs in practices to access depending on economic condition. Peat water or rhedang water is perceived differently among the ethnic groups; Orang Akit relies on peat water and perceives it as freely available clean water. The Orang Akit demonstrated notable adaptability to peat water, but they are the most vulnerable community due to limited livelihood. The other two ethnic groups have more access to rainwater and perceive peat water as clean as rainwater. Adaptation to water scarcity in peatland differs in ethnic groups depending on their values and livelihoods.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the decline in tourism activities, both those managed by companies, individuals, villages, and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes). The decline in tourism activities has had a secondary impact on small-scale businesses related to the tourism sector. The heavy dependence on the tourism sector and limited other business opportunities have hit the tourism industry's economy hard. Therefore, efforts are needed to enable them to survive and rise from the downturn in these activities. As one of the institutions that carry the Tri Darma of Higher Education, the campus world should have moved to carry out community service dharma. With community service, empowerment programs can be carried out for BUMDes and these business actors to increase resilience. The empowerment program is carried out as (1) workshop facilitation support and discussions with BUMDes managers and business actors in mapping problems and (2) formulating an action plan to reduce the impact and economic recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic. This empowerment program succeeded in mapping out problems and action plans to increase economic resilience during a pandemic and economic recovery through developing multiple economic businesses, such as preserving the tourism business while advancing farming, animal husbandry, mushroom cultivation, and herbal home industries.

Abstract

Indonesia, as the sixth largest tobacco-producing country in the world, has participated in the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) by issuing compromise regulations through Government Regulation (PP) No. 109 of 2012. This regulation regulates restrictions on tobacco production and distribution of products made from tobacco raw materials. Furthermore, PP No. 109 of 2012 determines the increases in tobacco excise rates and the determination of limits on nicotine levels also sparked unrest among tobacco farmers in the Temanggung area. This article attempts to explain the insistence of farmers, especially in the eastern slope of Mount Sumbing, Pagergunung Village, Bulu District, Temanggung, in maintaining tobacco cultivation even though they are faced with an anti-tobacco campaign from the FCTC. The continued cultivation of tobacco can be understood as a form of regimen of cultivated plants. This article is an anthropological study with a regimentation theoretical perspective and ethnographic approach as a research method which presents the research results. From this research, it is known that the cultivation regimen is controlled by mythology, tobacco trade tricks, and the pretext of tradition as a socio-cultural surplus.
