Abstract

Metacognitive and critical thinking skills are essential skills for being an effective learner. However, the results of previous studies indicate that these two skills in preservice teachers still require improvement. This research aimed to investigate the potential impact of the Exploring-Resuming Integrated Criticizing (ERIC) learning strategy on enhancing the metacognitive and critical thinking skills of preservice teachers. The study employed a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest and post-test component. The research population consisted of all biology education students at a university in Magelang City, Central Java, Indonesia. The sample consisted of 54 students from two classes enrolled in Plant Physiology, selected via cluster random sampling. Data on metacognitive and critical thinking skills were collected through pretest and posttest essay assessments. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The results of this study showed that the ERIC learning strategy has a significant impact on the preservice teachers’ metacognitive and critical thinking skills. We found that implementing ERIC learning led to higher metacognitive and critical thinking skills than those taught with a traditional approach. The research results recommend that ERIC be implemented as an active learning strategy to encourage the development of metacognitive and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

AbstrakPermasalahan pengelolaan sampah, khususnya sampah organik, masih menjadi tantangan di Indonesia, termasuk di Desa Wringin Putih, Kecamatan Borobudur, Kabupaten Magelang. Rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat dalam memilah dan mengolah sampah menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan dan berdampak negatif pada kesehatan. Oleh karenanya, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan warga dalam pengolahan sampah organik menjadi kompos menggunakan komposter skala rumah tangga yang dilakukan melalui sosialisasi dan pelatihan. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyuluhan materi, pelatihan, dan praktik pembuatan komposter dan proses pengomposan, serta evaluasi program yang dilaksanakan di awal dan akhir kegiatan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan peserta. Sebanyak 33 anggota Fatayat NU berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan ini. Hasil program pengabdian menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata skor pengetahuan dari 87,87 menjadi 93,94, dan keterampilan dari 83,64 menjadi 88,48 setelah pelatihan. Pelatihan ini juga berhasil mendorong perubahan perilaku partisipan untuk mengelola sampah secara mandiri dan berkelanjutan melalui bantuan teknologi komposter skala rumah tangga guna mendukung keberlanjutan program. Dengan demikian, sosialisasi dan pelatihan menjadi upaya yang efektif untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengurangi sampah organik, sehingga berdampak pada peningkatan kualitas lingkungan, serta mendukung pembangunan berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: kompos; komposter skala rumah tangga; pelatihan; sampah organik; sosialisasi AbstractWaste management issues, especially organic waste, are still a challenge in Indonesia, including in Wringin Putih Village, Borobudur District, Magelang Regency. Low public awareness in sorting and processing waste causes environmental pollution and has a negative impact on health. Thus, this community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of residents in processing organic waste into compost using a household-scale composter through socialization and training. The methods used include material counseling, training and practice of composting, and evaluation carried out at the beginning and end of the activity to determine the improvement of participants' abilities. A total of 33 Fatayat NU members actively participated in this activity. The results showed an increase in the average score of knowledge from 87.87 to 93.94, and skills from 83.64 to 88.48 after the training. This training also succeeded in encouraging changes in participants' behavior to manage waste independently and sustainably through household-scale composter technology assistance to support program sustainability. Therefore, socialization and training can serve as effective strategies to enhance community knowledge and skills in reducing organic waste, thereby contributing to improved environmental quality and supporting sustainable development. Keywords: compost; household scale composter; training; organic waste; socialization.

Abstract

Colocasia esculenta (taro) is an important tropical crop with high morphological diversity, particularly in Magelang Regency and City, Indonesia. However, morphologically based identification is often unreliable due to strong environmental influences, which limit its effectiveness in resolving genetic relationships among local varieties. Therefore, molecular approaches such as DNA barcoding are required to obtain more accurate and consistent genetic information. This study aimed to analyse the phylogenetic relationships among C. esculenta varieties from Magelang and to evaluate the effectiveness of the chloroplast genes rbcL and matK as DNA barcodes using an in silico approach. Secondary nucleotide sequence data for rbcL and matK were retrieved from the NCBI GenBank database and analysed using multiple sequence alignment with ClustalW in MEGA X. Phylogenetic trees were reconstructed using the Neighbour-Joining method with the Tamura-3-Parameter model and 1,000 bootstrap replications. At the same time, genetic distances were calculated using pairwise distance analysis. The results showed that matK exhibited a high level of sequence conservation, effectively resolving interspecific relationships within the genus Colocasia, but showed limited resolution at the intraspecific level. The rbcL gene displayed slightly higher nucleotide variation than matK, yet remained insufficient to discriminate local C. esculenta varieties clearly. Genetic distance analysis confirmed very low divergence among several varieties, indicating close evolutionary relationships. In conclusion, the use of rbcL or matK as single markers is inadequate for distinguishing local taro varieties. It is recommended that future studies employ multilocus approaches by combining rbcL–matK with faster-evolving markers, such as ITS, ITS2, or trnH–psbA, to achieve higher resolution at the intraspecific level and to support conservation and breeding programs of local taro germplasm.

Abstract

Motivation as a critical factor in supporting academic achievement is well-established. However, efforts to enhance student motivation and improve learning outcomes remain a significant challenge. This research aims to analyze the effect of using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model assisted by Quizizz Paper Mode (Q-Cards) on motivation and cognitive learning outcomes of class XI students at SMA IT Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid on the immune system material. The research design was quantitative quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The research results showed a significant influence of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model assisted by Quizizz Paper Mode (Q-Cards) on learning motivation with a significance value of 0.000 and student learning outcomes with a significance value of 0.000. The results of this research can be used as input for teachers and prospective teachers in considering the appropriate models and media to increase student motivation and learning outcomes to improve the quality of education and as a reference base for further research related to student motivation and cognitive learning outcomes.Abstrak. Peran motivasi sebagai faktor penting dalam mendukung prestasi akademik sudah diketahui dengan baik. Namun, upaya untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dan meningkatkan hasil belajar masih menjadi tantangan yang signifikan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan model pembelajaran Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan Quizizz Paper Mode (Q-Cards) terhadap motivasi dan hasil belajar kognitif siswa kelas XI SMA IT Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid pada materi sistem imunitas. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen kuantitatif dengan non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan model pembelajaran Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan Quizizz Paper Mode (Q-Cards) terhadap motivasi belajar dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000 dan hasil belajar siswa dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan masukan bagi guru dan calon guru dalam mempertimbangkan model dan media yang tepat untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan hasil belajar siswa guna meningkatkan mutu pendidikan dan sebagai bahan acuan untuk penelitian selanjutnya terkait motivasi dan hasil belajar kognitif siswa.

Abstract

Perkembangan revolusi industri 4.0 telah menggeser tuntutan sumber daya manusia dengan kualifikasi yang lebih tinggi, yakni mereka yang memiliki keterampilan abad ke-21. Sayangnya, keterampilan berpikir kreatif maupun berpikir kritis yang merupakan bagian dari keterampilan abad-21 masih belum diberdayakan dengan baik. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kedua macam keterampilan tersebut yaitu melalui pembelajaran STEAM berbasis PjBL (project-based learning). Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menguji adanya pengaruh pembelajaran STEAM berbasis PjBL terhadap keterampilan berpikir kreatif dan berpikir kritis siswa. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan quasi experiment dengan desain nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X MA Miftahul Ulum Bettet Pamekasan Tahun Pelajaran 2020/2021; sementara sampel yang digunakan meliputi satu kelas X IPA B untuk kelas eksperimen dan satu kelas X IPS I digunakan sebagai kelas kontrol. Data yang terkumpul selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan uji anakova. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Pembelajaran STEAM berbasis PjBL berpengaruh secara signifikan  terhadap keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa  (P 0,000 < 0,005; Fhitung = 35,551). 2) Pembelajaran STEAM berbasis PjBL berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa (P 0,003 < 0,05, Fhitung = 9,401). Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran STEAM berbasis PjBL dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif pembelajaran untuk memberdayakan keterampilan abad ke-21.

Abstract

Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains a series of narrative reliefs depicting religious stories and various elements of the natural environment. Among these elements, animal representations constitute an important component of the visual narratives preserved within the monument. Although several studies have documented fauna depicted in other narrative relief series of Borobudur Temple, the animal diversity represented in the Gandawyuha reliefs has not been systematically investigated. This study therefore aimed to identify and profile the animal species depicted in the Gandawyuha reliefs of the third hallway wall. A descriptive research design was employed through direct observation, documentation, and species identification based on morphological characteristics visible in the relief carvings. Species identification was supported by relevant zoological literature and validated by a cultural heritage expert. The study recorded 108 animal depictions distributed across 27 of the 88 relief panels, representing 20 species belonging to the classes Aves and Mammalia. The identified fauna comprised nine bird species and eleven mammal species, including both endemic and non-endemic taxa. Five species were classified as endemic to Indonesia, whereas fifteen species were non-endemic. The results provide the first systematic documentation of animal diversity represented in the Gandawyuha reliefs and contribute baseline data for heritage biodiversity research at Borobudur Temple. These findings highlight the value of cultural heritage monuments as sources of information on biodiversity representation preserved within historical visual records and provide a foundation for future interdisciplinary studies integrating biological and cultural perspectives. Representasi Burung dan Mamalia di Situs Warisan Budaya: Mendokumentasikan Keanekaragaman Hayati pada Relief Gandawyuha di Candi Borobudur ABSTRAK: Candi Borobudur merupakan situs warisan dunia UNESCO, memiliki serangakaian relief naratif yang menggambarkan kisah-kisah keagamaan dan berbagai unsur lingkungan alam. Di antara unsur-unsur tersebut, representasi hewan merupakan komponen penting dalam narasi visual yang lestari pada monumen ini. Meskipun beberapa penelitian telah mendokumentasikan fauna yang digambarkan pada relief naratif lainnya di Candi Borobudur, keanekaragaman hewan yang direpresentasikan dalam relief Gandawyuha belum pernah diteliti secara sistematis. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menyusun profil spesies hewan yang digambarkan pada relief Gandawyuha di lorong tiga. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif melalui observasi langsung, dokumentasi, dan identifikasi spesies berdasarkan karakteristik morfologi yang tampak pada pahatan relief. Proses identifikasi diperkuat dengan literatur zoologi yang relevan dan divalidasi oleh seorang ahli budaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 108 representasi hewan tersebar pada 27 dari 88 panel relief, mewakili 20 spesies yang termasuk dalam kelas Aves dan Mamalia. Fauna yang teridentifikasi terdiri atas sembilan spesies burung dan sebelas spesies mamalia, yang mencakup taksa endemik maupun bukan endemik. Sebanyak lima spesies dikategorikan sebagai endemik Indonesia, sedangkan lima belas spesies lainnya merupakan spesies non-endemik. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan dokumentasi sistematis mengenai keanekaragaman hewan yang direpresentasikan dalam relief Gandawyuha serta menyediakan data dasar bagi penelitian keanekaragaman hayati yang terintegrasi dengan warisan budaya di Candi Borobudur. Temuan ini menunjukkan nilai penting situs warisan budaya sebagai sumber informasi mengenai representasi biodiversitas yang terekam dalam visual historis dan menyediakan landasan bagi penelitian interdisipliner di masa mendatang yang mengintegrasikan perspektif biologi dan budaya.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru IPA SMP yang tergabung dalam MGMP IPA Kabupaten Temanggung dalam teknik biologi molekuler terkini dan penerapannya pada pembelajaran berbasis STEM untuk mendukung implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka dengan pendekatan deep learning. Guru IPA SMP dituntut mampu menyajikan pembelajaran yang integratif dan aplikatif, namun pada praktiknya masih banyak pembelajaran yang bersifat teoritis akibat keterbatasan fasilitas laboratorium dan kurangnya keterampilan dalam merancang eksperimen sederhana. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan model Participatory Rural Appraisal dengan empat tahap: persiapan dan koordinasi dengan mitra (MGMP IPA Temanggung dan Laboratorium Biologi Molekuler UNS), pembuatan materi pelatihan isolasi DNA sederhana , pelaksanaan kegiatan yang meliputi paparan materi dan praktik mandiri isolasi DNA tumbuhan , serta evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan eksperimen sains sederhana mampu meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam mengimplementasikan pembelajaran berbasis eksperimen yang mudah direplikasi di kelas. Selain itu, kegiatan ini memberikan gambaran konkret mengenai integrasi pendekatan STEM dalam pembelajaran IPA SMP melalui aktivitas praktikum yang kontekstual dan menarik. Sehingga guru mampu memberikan pembelajaran yang lebih kontekstual dan sesuai dengan tuntutan Kurikulum Merdeka dan pendekatan deep learning. Sebagai rekomendasi, pelatihan serupa perlu dilakukan secara berkelanjutan dengan pengembangan variasi eksperimen sederhana lainnya yang relevan dengan materi IPA SMP, serta dukungan sekolah dalam penyediaan sarana praktikum sederhana untuk menunjang pembelajaran yang lebih bermakna.

Abstract

The conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic caused extraordinary changes in various sectors of life, including in the education sector. The closure of all school institutions "forced" the teachers transform their learning into online learning to reduce the potential spread of the Corona Virus in one school environment. Unfortunately, it had been a year after the implementation of learning from home began; the challenges and obstacles in implementing online learning were still felt at SLB Negeri Bugih Pamekasan. This community service aims to improve the ability of teachers to create and use learning media, as well as using online learning applications to support the learning process during pandemic situation. The method used was training which was packaged in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) format. The results of the activity showed that: (1) 100% of teachers were able to use information and communication technology, especially the internet to find digital learning media that suits student needs, (2) 80% of teachers were able to make simple learning videos, and (3) 100% of teachers were able to use online learning applications to support the learning process.

Abstract

Waste cooking oil is a waste product that is often not utilized optimally by the community and can pollute the environment if not managed properly. On the other hand, students at the Ibnu Hajar Community Learning Center (PKBM) and the PKK group in Sirahan Village, Magelang Regency, need to develop their entrepreneurial skills to support local economic growth. This community service project aims to provide training to both partner groups on utilizing waste cooking oil as a primary material for making aromatherapy candles. The methods employed in this activity include education and hands-on training. The results of the community service program showed that this program had a positive impact on the partner groups, namely the students of PKBM Ibnu Hajar and the PKK group in Sirahan Village. Training participants not only learned how to produce aromatherapy candles from waste cooking oil, but also gained new skills with the potential to enhance the local economy through environmentally sustainable entrepreneurship.
